Well, TCSers come from all parts of the world so I was curious...
What kind of accent do you have? Southern? Australian? English? Midwestern? None at all?

I come from one of the many parts of Florida where the accents aren't so thick. So, I guess I could say that I have a slight Southern accent?
Someone would have to listen to me and then let me know.

FL is a toughie Katherine. A lot of native Floridians that I've met (much of my family included) do not have any real kind of discernable accent...I guess b/c Florida is such a melting pot of people from all parts of the country?

I think it is very natural for foreigners to think that people in other countries all sound the same. For example, an English accent is an English accent to me, but I know there are different types of English accents; cockney, for example. It's the same in the States: we have Southern accents (but they may even differ according to what part of the South you're from!), midwestern accents, northern accents, specific New York accents, etc.
Accents are almost like fingerprints- they can be so unique and, in some cases, you can even tell what specific state a person is from (in the US anyway) just by their accent!

What really gets me is when northerners pronounce Florida like "Flarida." It makes me want to scream. I don't think it would bother me so much if so many of them weren't so convinced that they were right. In reality, Florida comes from a Spanish word and you don't pronounce "o" in Spanish like an "a" in English!! AHHHHHHHHH!

Sorry, just had to get that out...now back to the regular thread topic...

Classic BBC English (I trained as a radio journalist in the days when even regional accents were frowned on!) But it's good now that I am teaching English - everyone says I am the easiest person to understand they have ever met.

I just always think it funny when people say things like 'you have an accent' as if THEY don't! When I point out that everyone has an accent they think I'm nuts.

I'm from Michigan and when we went down to the Carolina's they thought we talked funny and we thought they talked funny. So I do agree with you!

We all have some sort of accent no matter how slight.

Beautiful Australia
i have an Australian accent but it isn't real ocka
kind of like Natalie imbruglia or Rebecca Cartright, more like becs accent

i can tell different American accents apart especially when they are boston and new york accents and one's that sound heaps different, same with english, some are quiet sophisticated like the queen and others are more like on that show trainspotting.
