63% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!

Hey did you guys know that Southern US English is the closest to British English as far as the number of phenomes is concerned? So they essentially have the same number of sounds. Interesting since people usually consider British English to sound the most intelligent and Southern US English to sound the least! Just a random tidbit I learned in cognitive psych today!

60% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!

Very surprising, since I grew up in the Mid Atlantic with parents from the Midwest and New England, went to college in New Jersey and now live in Ohio.

I am 51% Dixie, "barely in the Dixie category".....which is surprising, because I'm not even american!
Seriously, was the drivethru liquor store question a joke, or do you guys (note: not y'all lol) actually have those??

Hi Marge, you and I almost scored the same:
50% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

And...we're practically neighbors!

Well Sam, you ARE from the Southern Hemisphere!

As for my score: 63% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!

Considering that Mom's side of the family is from Georgia, my dad is from Arkansas and I grew up in SOUTHERN Arizona - not surprising.

Praise the Lord and pass the peas, I'm STILL 46% Yankee, even after eight years in the heart of Dixie!!

Strangely enough, even though I was born in MD and raised in MT, most of my answers indicated an affinity for the western Great Lakes region - must be my ex's family influence (they're all from near Milwaukee)

68% here - I'm from "southern" Indiana and most of my ancestors came out of the south. I wonder if they knew that some folks here call a bell pepper a "mango". I have no idea why.

And yes, Leli, we do have drive-thru liquor stores. Guess it gets folks by the "no shirt, no shoes, no service" rules.

Forgot to add, I pronouce "aunt" two different way. This was pointed out to me by my best friend the English major.

When referring to a specific person I say "awnt" - as in "my Aunt Eileen". Otherwise I say "ant". I have no idea why I do that!

That's right!

I pronounce Aunt like "Can't" and I had a conversation about Drive in Liquor Stores with Deb(I think) once on here. You crazy 'mericans!
[Just teasing!]

57% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

I was raised in way southern Illinois, and moved to the Chicago area when I was about 11. They may have gotten rid of the accent (though I'm told it comes back when I'm overtired or had a bit too much to drink), but apparently the phrases hang on.
