My cats wear collars when they go to the vet, or to the petstore, only. They always manage to take them off in the house.
Plus, I find the bells annoying.
I'm not worried about them going outside. Everyone is very careful, and besides that, my cats are FRIGHTENED to go outside without me there with them.

So, do your cats wear collars in the house?

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Mine wear them all the time. Their the safety ones with a bell and a disc with my mobile number on, and the bell is really noisy!.

They got these ones for christmas and the bells were a bit bigger than the last ones on their other collars, so they sounded like santa's reindeers when they ran after each other!

I know what you mean, Susan. I can't stand those bells!

Flea collars don't count.
I'm talking about licenced collars.

Villy used to wear one until just over a week ago when she got caught up in it and gave herself a fat lip
I think it was the big id tag on it from the shelter which didn't help. I have got her a new one with elastic on it (and no big id tag, I will find a little one) so if she does get caught up it will stretch and she can easily slip her head out of it, but she won't let me put it on!

Mine don't wear them, we are afraid they'd get hung up on something and get hurt. When they go outside, it's on a harness and leash.

My cats have worn collars since they were kittens. I've never had a problem with it getting caught on anything. *knocks on wood*

If you're looking for a collar, try Lupine or Beastie Bands.

Usually they don't but I would like them to... I'll probably put them on my two when we move in a few weeks and then if that goes well, I might leave them on.

Frodo never wears a collar. He's strictly an indoor cat and when he has to go to the vet, it's in a carrier with a harness and leash.

My 2 oldest girls used to until Diddy managed to hang herself on something in my closet. Since then, I've been to afraid to put them on them. If I hadn't been there, I don't know that she would have unhung herself.

both of my girls wear them. Ebony was a mess at first when we put it on her, but now she doesn't mind it. Lilly didn't care from the get go. I HATED the bells too, so I removed them before putting on the collars.

I said "No, never" b/c Limerick, my kitten, was badly injuried by a collor in January. He had gotten the collar caught around him lower jaw. He was bleeding and was having trouble breathing. I rushed him to the vet where they cut off the collar. He has since recovered, with out scaring, and is back to normal. It was a very trumatic time for both of us.

Those microchips are great, but I have heard from my vet that many shelters do not have the equipment to check for them and vet hospitals simply forget b/c they are not widely used. They are also numbering conflicts. The number you pet has in one state may be the same as different pet in another state. That sytem needs to be regualted nation wide rather by state.

No, but I wish they did. I bought a cat harness and leash for Cindy and Lucy. I thought that they could both use the harness and leash and take turns going outside. We tried putting the harness on Cindy first as we thought she would more easily adapt to it. Well, as soon as we began putting the harness over Cindy's head, she began biting on it and we couldn't put it in its proper position. Also, Cindy was too big around her middle for the harness to fit, so we'll have to buy her a bigger one. I never thought that it would be so difficult to put a harness on a cat!

That's why we never tried putting collars on the cats because the harness was bad enough.

Willow wears a collar with a bell, but she's the first cat I ever had that actually keeps it on! We just adopted Willow 3 weeks ago today and just recently found out she was pregnant, our guess in her last week now. Her bell has come in handy when trying to track her down as she's taken to hiding in our breakfast nook or my daughter's room.

No. I tried when I first got her but she hated it. She totaly freaked out. Plus, Fluffy is way to active. I am afraid that she will hook it on something and choke when I'm not looking.
