I just got a CNN Breaking News alert. While not a "political" Reagan fan, I always found him to be a very affable person. I despised "Queen Nancy" or "Nancita" during her tenure as First Lady (too much the dedicated little woman; I compared her to Betty Ford and Barbara Bush, two women of the same generation who managed to forge their own identities), but grew to admire her devotion to her husband once he was diagnosed as a victim of Alzheimer's. I hope his death represents a real release from pain and sorrow for both of them, and admire her for speaking out about stem cell research. May he RIP.

I just posted this on IMO. Actually, I'm relieved for his family. What a devastating disease, particularly when it hits somebody as mentally and physically agile as Reagan was. Nancy Reagan must be devastated - her identity was so much a part of his that I often pitied her for being born in the wrong generation. I hope - and believe - that her regenerated relationship with her kids will see her through this. I didn't like his politics, but admired him as a humorous, friendly, and down-to-earth human being. He was a very "human" president, and my thoughts are with his family.

Ronald Reagan was a great president and human being. He had a very full and good life and always remained the same, humble, down to earth gentlemen all throughout his life. Him and Nancy had a fairy tale marriage and very obviously and deeply loved each other. I have great admiration for the both of them.

It is so sad, when a great man dies. These past ten years must have been hard on his family, watching a once-vigorous man deteriorate into someone who didn't even know who he was. He's in a better place, now. Kudos, to those who saw to it that his last years were lived with dignity and love.

This is a sad day that will not be forgotten. I really feel for his family as they cope with this loss, yet it must be somewhat of a relief to know he is nolonger suffering in his lost world of confusion. Alzheimers is such a terrible disease.

IMO Reagan was the last great president we have had, and the last time the choice for President wasn't the lesser of two evils. A truly great man.

As so many have said, the suffering for him and his family is now over. Ronald Reagan will be remembered well by many, many people and will be grieved by nations.

I may not have always agreed with President Regan, but he has been an American icon for a very long time. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing and I send all the best thoughts to his family and his loved ones. A great man has left us today.

Val:

I've always said this...

Reagan was the last of the era where the choice was the lesser of...."WHO CARES?."

He deserved a better retirement, and certainly a better death.

RIP and God Bless to him and his surviving family members.

He'll be remembered.

We as a nation and the world as a whole is less with his passing. We have lost a great man.

I lost my Aunt to Alzheimers, and am watching my dad slowly waste away from this disease. He now only recognizes me as someone familiar, but is not sure who I am. My heart goes out to Nancy Reagan and the entire family.

Discovery channel just did a special on him showcasing the letters he wrote throughout his life. What an eloquent man he was!

It is sad, but also a relief for him and his family....He suffered from Altzheimers for many years, it began during his presidency (he forgot about certain movies he was in during private dinners). May he rest in peace.

I'm happy that he was still clear in his mind, when the Berlin Wall came down. That had to be a great day, for him. (I wonder if Gorbachev will go to the funeral.)

I heard the news at the baby shower I hosted yesterday...how sad. I just couldn't believe it, but I know that fighting Alzeheimer's is a rough battle and I know his family is at ease now that he isn't suffering. Reagan was president when I was born. My God be with his family at this time. He is in a much better place now...

I imagine he will. Their names will forever be linked in history books. Maggie Thatcher, whom I wouldn't mind seeing delivering the eulogy, since they were such good friends, will probably be there, too, and Helmut Kohl.

According to MSNBC, Ms. Thatcher can not attend because of her poor health. They stated that for several years now she has carried a black dress with her whenever she traveled expecting to get the call about Mr. Reagan. She has spoken with Mrs. Reagan and sent her heartfelt condolences.

Having recently lost my Grandmother to a combination of Alzheimers and strokes, I was happy (oddly) to hear Reagans death announced, because I know the sort of loss of quality his life was experiencing..

While I'm listening to the TV, they're showing his funeral, and I must say is that I hate that this is publicized. I think it's rude. I know I didn't want all the people around when my grams died, I'll bet the reagans want to be alone as well. they're playing it like it's a soccer tournament, with a running commentary.. it's sad.

I don't know about his kids, but Nancy Reagan must be used to all the attention after 8 years as First Lady, not to mention having been an actress, and may find all the "pomp and circumstance" fitting. They've had a long time to prepare for his demise, too, and may have already done most of their grieving.
