My birthday is coming up. January 24. So you know what's gonna happen, don't you? Either snow, or sleet, or freezing rain.

Or all of the above. Been like that for the past several years now.

So today? I took matters into my own hands. I called our local butcher and ordered a 4-rib standing rib roast for Saturday, January 21. And I'm making that puppy myself.

My GF's husband's birthday is January 28, so they're coming down for dinner on the 21st. She is bringing a salad.

The menu....

Standing Rib Roast with Yorkshire Pudding (the roast will be done rare; I already told everybody it's rare or it's nothing.)

Hasselback Potatoes

Asparagus with Hollandaise

My GF's salad

I am making Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Cake and frosting it with my whipped peanut butter frosting. It's my GF's DH's most favorite cake on earth.

And there will be wine. They may even be margaritas. I don't care whether margaritas "go with" a standing rib roast or not.

It's my birthday and I'll cook if I want to!
 So take that weather!

You know what I've noticed about you Pam. You do a heck of a lot for other people. I just hope you get back as much as you give out. :wavey:

I don't even know what to say to that. The whole birthday thing has bugged the heck out of me now for the last 3 or 4 years. Every time Rick made plans for us to go out for my birthday with friends, it snowed or sleeted or we had freezing rain. Didn't matter what day he decided to do something, the weather always messed things up. And it just started to
me off. I know, I'm going to be 62 years old and I should just be an adult about it. But damn it, it's my birthday. And then people say, well, it's January, it happens. I get that. But every year? Seriously?

she is right=you do a lot for people and 4 legged critters.

Maybe pop some skis on and go ski down your road? I did that once...we had so much snow the plows didn't come down..so we cross country skied to the next town..( it was 1/4 mile down the road LOL)

Hope you have a relaxing day and eat some good noms!

Happy birthday next week, Pam. We will move over and make a place for you and Rick down south. Seriously, do you have any plans yet for the day. Whatever you do, I hope you feel better and have a great birthday.

Change in plans. I'm going to the Women's March instead!
Leaving at 5:00 in the morning and should be back around 1:00 Sunday morning. Life is awesome!

Oh I envy you. I would love to go but I'm just not able to do all of that walking. I live about 20 miles from DC. Have fun.

Thanks, Muffy. I'm so excited about being able to participate in history. There are quite a few buses leaving from this area. I didn't reserve a seat before because you never know what the weather's going to be like at this time of the year. I did put myself on a cancellation list and somebody cancelled, which gave me my seat. Some of my co-workers are going as well. It should be a good trip. And taking part in this important piece of history is awesome!

Margaritas go with everything!!

it's your day do what you want. Have some for me. Saturday is my birthday and I have to work. BOO!

I'm hoping that since I won't be at home, Father Time won't be able to find me and I won't have to get older.

Yes- that rib roast MUST be rare. Anything more is just wrong.

I have the makings for margaritas at home too. I will have one and raise a toast to you on Saturday night!

Pam, have a fabulous time. Be safe though as no doubt there will be nutters aplenty.

Yes be very careful, I am watching something going on there now.  There was a group of violent anarchists dressed in black that infiltrated a peaceful group.  The cops got involved with gas and flash bang grenades..  There have been 3 cops injured and they have started breaking windows.

These people will still be there.  They now have stacked up a bunch of stuff in the street and started a fire.  The cops have called in the National Guard.

Lordy, I see no point in these protests. I didn't vote for Trump, but we have to accept that we have him now for at least 4 years. What's the sense in tilting at windmills?
