Everybody's food sounds so good. Especially the veg burger and the mushroom ravioli from Trader Joe's. I sure wish I had a Trader Joe's near me. The one nearest me is in Virginia about 30 miles away.

Last night I had a small garden salad with organic iceberg lettuce, organic cherry tomatoes, organic cucumbers, purple onions and some Kraft ranch dressing. That was so tasty. There is only one organic store in my area and it's called Mom's. It's just a small store but they have good food.

I am jealous.

Chili tonight. With Vermont Maple Cornbread.
(It's a good day for chili!

I took an onion, garlic marinated pork tenderloin out of the freezer the other day. I have to use it today.. I also have a butternut squash which has been sitting around for a long time..

I am thinking of both tonight.. that, and the rest of the raviolis, along with salads with get me through this week.. or at least most of it.. I hate keeping leftovers a long time in the refrigerator.. even if my refrigerator is very cold..

Are you going to laugh if I say MORE chicken salad?  I hate to let it sit in the fridge, or at least, in MY fridge, for longer than 3 days or so.  When the new one comes in, I'll feel better about going a week with it.  Besides, I LIKE chicken salad a LOT!

I agree, 3 days tops for leftovers..

And I do like chicken salad.. I do not have it often..

I think I will have the leftovers of mushroom ravioli, along with a bit of the pork tenderloin which I made yesterday....

Like you, I have to use up the tenderloin...

I love chicken salad and would make it more often if Rick liked it.

Rick is making his (family-famous) hamburgers. I'm going to throw together a crock pot of beans and a bit of pasta salad. We're starting off with queso fundido and tortilla chips, and we're having margaritas tonight. My sister is bringing broccoli salad and I'm getting some cookies out of the freezer.

I made so much food yesterday and have tons of leftovers, but I think we are going out to eat this afternoon.

Well, there are some leftovers I'll allow to go longer.  I adore pasta with pesto, and as the pesto is VERY garlic-heavy, it will keep safely for several days, and will anything with a lot of honey.  The trick with pasta is NOT to have sauce with meat in it added to it, and to put a piece of plastic wrap RIGHT ON TOP OF THE PASTA ITSELF.  Sorry about the yelling, but I have such a time with the Bold and Italics buttons.

For tonight, there is a big, whopping hunk of pork chop on the bottom shelf of the fridge that is softly calling my name.  I'm thinking ranch-flavored broccoli or garlic cauliflower with it.

I had white bean and kale soup I picked up at Safeway's deli. Don't ever go to the grocery store on Superbowl day. It looked like everybody waited until the last minute to get their party supplies.

Leftovers from last night: wings, burgers, crock pot beans. No pasta salad, no cookies are leftover. Only two burgers, but that will work.

Nice, Lily Paddy!
When you get your others, please give us a review of them as well. I'm really curious. Thanks! My sister doesn't like to food shop, nor does she like cooking, so a service like that works well for her. (I was actually thinking of buying a 3-meal week for her and my BIL last year as a Christmas gift.)

JazzyP, I'm a big grocery store fan, too! When a new supermarket opens in the area, I always go to check it out and I can spend several hours just looking at everything. I was visiting a friend in NY several years ago when a new supermarket had just opened. I forget how many hours she and I spent there. I love Trader Joe's, too, and can spend quite a while there. Unfortunately our closest TJ's is about 60 miles away.

Grocery store or shoe store? I'll take the grocery store any day!

I think we are getting Trader Joe's in our area soon, I can't wait!  Do you have Aldi where you are?  I like to shop there, too.  It's a good place to pick up staples, and sometimes they get some really amazing things as special buys.  It's where I first encountered Kerrygold Irish butter, which is now the only kind I will use.  Prices beat the stuffing out of Walmart.

Yesterday, I made Swedish pot roast.  It's basically just a beef roast, but instead of cooking it with potatoes, carrots, and onions, you use carrot and onion only, and serve it with fried sliced potatoes.  When the meat is cooked, you mix the drippings and juice with cream, a bit of flour, and a little anchovy juice or paste.  It's delicious, and a good way to use a less expensive cut of beef.  The cats went slightly mad when I was making the gravy!  It's delicious, and a good way to use a cheaper cut of beef.  We will be having some of the leftovers tonight.  I also have an apple Butter Braid my housemate bought from a friend's child for a fundraiser, and it needs to be used soon.  I think I will bake that for dessert tonight, and breakfast tomorrow.

You know, we do have an Aldi's and I keep saying I need to check it out. I've heard a lot of good things about Aldi's, but haven't been in for several years. Thanks for the reminder.

Your Swedish pot roast sounds delicious. Do you use a chuck?

I use what's on sale.
Yesterday's was made with bottom round.

I have a rule.  When I want to grill a steak, I get the best I can afford.  When I want to slow-cook, I get the cheapest I can find.  It works.

Aldi has come a long way over time.  Their produce section is still limited, and it is not where I get fresh fruits and vegetables, other than a few basics, but they have a lot more interesting things than they did when my parents first shopped there back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

A big, giant whopping sweet potato.  And nothing else.  This sweet potato is the size of both of my fists!
