I used to have a male cat named Zimba 6 years ago that got lost on a 4th of july. I never really got over that very well. Still miss him.

We fostered a 5 year old girl named Princess from a organization that was at a petsmart.

They told us she had bad owners that abused her and did not take good care of here and they wanted to put her to sleep because they didn't want her anymore.

They nice lady that took her in for a year told us that her other cats did not get along with her so they had to separate her from them and she lived her life in the bathroom so the other cats would not bother her.

Well we ended making her our furever baby after a week of having her company. She was never really very lovable to us unless it was eating time then she would rub up against our legs as we prepared her dish.

As time went by we cherished her company and coming home to her never got old.

Recently she has slowly stopped eating less and less.

We took her to the vet on Sept 8 and she was 6.3 lbs. They took blood and the vet said her gums were very pale. Also did a ultrasound and that her liver was a little bigger then normal.

The next day they called back and said her blood came back with a lot of problems. So we went back and they told us that it might be FIP he wanted to keep her overnight and give her IV fluids and forcefeed her some food.

When we came back to get her that was the first time she gave us headbutts and was happy to see us.

Since then I took over syringe feeding her every 3-4 hours. Eats a little more then a can of A/d a day but has not gained weight.

She has autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Her red blood cells a very low.
She lays all day.
The vet put her on antibiotics, immune suppression drugs and nausea medication.

Lately her walk has been very drunk and yesterday she didn't make it to her litter box because she had a hard time getting her hind leg all the way in the box.

Well its late and I have to wake up at 5:50 to fed her and give meds.
I will post updates.

I just need some emotional support its so hard for me I cant stand to see her like this.

Here she is sleeping next to me as I type this

I am so very sorry. I lost a 7 month old kitten to suspected FIP and have nursed a couple of my own other kitties into seniorhood and diseases that took them. I can't offer any advice on FIP other than I really hope that is not what she has and you start to see an improvement soon. It really takes it out of us when our babies are unwell. She's just beautiful. Sending you hugs x

She is getting worse she cant even hold her pee. She went pee where she lays. We have to help her to the litter box. I might have to put her to sleep soon....its so hard to make that decision.

Oh Sweetie.. I am so sorry to hear of this diagnosis to your sweet kitty....

FIP is a devastating disease. Unfortunately, there is no cure for it.. I hope your Vet made you aware of that aspect of the disease.. all you can do is try  to make her last days as comfortable as possible..

sigh...  I feel so bad for you.....

Please do the appropriate act at a time when Princess  is not in severe pain and suffering.. That is the ultimate act of love you can give her..
...

I do not know what else to say, except that I am very, very, sorry you had to deal with this disease...

It is also very contagious.. I would like you to contact the head of the place where you adopted your kitty from. They need to be aware of this. There could be other cats they are adopting who have this disease also...They need to thoroughly sterilize all their cubbies as well as notifying PetSmart of this... Yes, it is that bad..

I would also find out from your Vet as to what you need to do to make sure no other kitties you may bring into your home can be infected with this.. The germs do last around, an incredible amount of time...

We are all here for you... please, do not hesitate to contact us...

so sorry..

@mofo84   ...I am also very sorry to hear of the diagnosis that your Princess got.

I was not aware that vets are able to diagnose FIP, conclusively yet, but only by taking titers of the corona virus, but the other illness you mentioned sounds like it is having more of an affect on Princess.

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) sounds like a very rough disease because it attacks the cat's own red blood cells, and makes them anemic and weak.

And the immune system instead of helping the cat, is actually working against it.

http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pe...alth/autoimmune-hemolytic-anemia-in-cats/2134

It does sound like your vet is doing the best he/she can, short of giving a blood transfusion.

Even a transfusion might not work, if the underlying disease issue is not known, since the body may attack the red blood cells again.

I have to say, though, that you are an amazing cat guardian, because you have given and shown Princess tremendous love before, and during her illness.

Princess has come to know a forever home, with love and caring, and that would mean the world to her.

Tears are rolling down my cheek, because you have not been given enough time with her, but I am heartened that people like you exist, who will foster, and adopt, and take the steps necessary to help their animals out.

May you just know that I, like the others have mentioned, are thinking about your Princess and you, and wishing you all Strength, and Peace, ...in whatever difficult decisions that you will have to make.

I thought we could beat this sickness together but my baby is tired .
A vet is coming to my home tomorrow morning. She will get the peace she deserves.

Thank you Princess for giving me 11 months of happiness. I will miss you so very much. I wish we had more time together....

I have a cat who is currently 1 year old and he walks as if he's drunk, we took him to the vet numerous times and they've even kept him for a whole week just to tell us "we don't know what the problem is, maybe hes just a weird cat." And we paid SO MUCH, just for that. When he was a baby, he was very active, normal walking, normal everything. Just one day he suddenly couldn't walk well. He doesn't make it to the litter box anymore, he can't hold in his bathroom. It just comes out as he's walking, he falls a lot and has seizures they gave us steroids for him which make him walk better but we weaned him off of them because we couldn't afford to keep on getting them. His back legs are what is wrong and we think his brain didn't develop right, or its just genetic because he was an outside cat, he had a twin but was very sick and passed, he was about 4 or 3 weeks when we found him stuck in a pipe away from the rest of his litter. We found his father, he walks as if he's drunk as well, but his walking is way better than his sons?! I'm afraid we're going to lose him soon. We don't know what he has because our vet doesn't know anything after all the blood test and because of it they refuse to give him his shots because "you can't get your animals vaccinated if they're sick" so he's just our special needs kitty. His name is koshka. Some vets are pretty sh*tty. But I'm sorry for what you and your cat are going through.

The photos that you posted with your Princess is a truly beautiful tribute.

In time, with your heart healing day by day, I hope that all those good memories and experiences are the only ones that remain.

Certain aspects of life are so unfair, especially all these illnesses that our cats can get, but the happy and meaningful parts far outweigh the sad parts,...your photos truly show that.

I am so sorry for your loss of Princess.

Fly like the wind, Princess. May you rest in heaven or over the bridge, looking over your family, from time to time.

My heart aches for you.  We also had a young kitty, only 3 yrs. old, who we lost to FIP.  May you take comfort in knowing that you gave her the most caring and wonderful home.  Run free dear, sweet Princess.

This is heartbreaking and devastating. Thank you for sharing. I'm not very familiar with FIP and I wonder can an adult housecat suddenly come down with this? My thoughts are with you as I send all my love to you and your family. Thank you for loving her and sharing her with us.

SO sad seeing this.  Heartfelt condolences and fly free, sweet angel <3 (((((((((^^)))))))) <3 -- whole, healthy, and forever LOVED.  We have lost two to FIP --one almost record-breaking lived to 16 with dry form, on vitamins and Immunoregulin, and the other, just a tiny kitten girl, with wet-form, here and gone in a heartbeat -- and it is the WORST.

I'm not a vet and I'm not sure about the sudden onset.  But you may want to search "CEREBELLAR HYPOPLASIA" because apart from the sudden onset, this sounds very much like what your baby may have.  If it IS CH, is is not health-threatening.  Many cats live happy, healthy lives with CH.  You may also want to visit Best Friends Animal Society online and look up CH cats there.  They have a lot of experience with CH cats and can probably give you a lot of good information on it.  I hope that this is what your cat has, because again, it is not a threat to health.
