My boy's name is January. He was abandoned, found in a drain with an open wound near his bum and was just 3 weeks old when he was rescued in January this year, thus his name [emoji]128515[/emoji]
His wound has healed completely and his fur has grown back. Could not imagine what could have happened to him if he was not rescued.

Here he is on the 1st day home using a make shift litter box

His damage

About to go to the vet

After visiting the vet

At one and a half month old

He's 8 months old now and is neutered. And we love him very much [emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji]

I named Speck before I got him.  I wanted a spotted cat.  We had looked at Bengals.  DH and I were already arguing stripes vs.spots (well, rosettes for Bengals).  My mom talked me into adopting from a kill shelter instead to save a life.  I didn't know if I would find a spotted kitten there, but I had a feeling.  And as soon as I walked in the cat room there he was, frowning down at me from his cage.  I couldn't resist a kitten with spots who looked like he disapproved of me.  He is a mackerel tabby.  His spots have elongated since he has grown up, but he still has lots of belly spots.  As far as the frown, that's what he does when he's curious about something.  Wrinkles his forehead and turns down his mouth.

That's Blackberry in my avatar, so named because she is solid black.  My neighbor left behind his two cats when he moved, and we took them in.

I adopted Chula and Paul when they were two and already named.  Chula means "cutie" in Spanish and she was named by the nephew of the original owner who was learning Spanish in school.  Paul was actually named Paul Anka but not being a big Paul Anka fan, I dropped the last name and just called him Paul.  Both names really fit them, though like most cats, they only acknowledge them when they feel like it!

My aunt's cat had kittens in March.  I was wanting to adopt a couple of kittens.  She posted on facebook asking if anyone would want to adopt kittens.  I'm in Missouri and she was in Illinois so I jokingly said, "I'll take a couple if you bring them to me!"  She said, "Sure!"  So I said, "Really?  I'll take the orange male and the black female."  I've always had a soft spot for black cats and my boyfriend is partial to orange tabbies.  Well, John decided he was going to name the orange one Murphy (from the Boondock Saints, which is our favorite movie.  He's Irish, born in Ireland and I can't resist hot guys with Irish accents).  Well, we couldn't have a Murphy without a Connor, so I told my aunt I wanted the black male instead.  So, she called them by their names since the day after they were born.  Coincidentally, these two ended up being completely inseparable so it's a good thing I took both of them or they would have been utterly heartbroken.

They were up and about right after coming home.  Running around the house like maniacs.  So, back to normal.  Haha

I was shown a photo of this beautiful black cat to adopt, and straight away I thought of his name.

So many black cats are given elegant, strong names such as Panther or Midnight, but this little boy looked like a Biffs to me. I was correct.

When I got his sister shortly afterwards I didn't mind her foster name but as she's petite, beautiful, and can put up a fight I called her Leeloo. The Fifth Element's a great film.

I really enjoy reading about how all the names were picked and what they mean, great thread.

Itty Bitty Kitty, Bitty for short, because when we live trapped her I put her at about 8 months, the first Vet said oh no, only about 6 months, and the second Vet after her spay said 12 months.  So we thought she was full grown but very small.  And then she grew anyway and probably I was closest on her age.

Andy for our street, AlexANDEr St.

Lexie for our street, ALEXander st.

Derri for our street, AlexanDER st.  A neighbour has Allie for our street, ALexander St.  :)

Lucy is a dilute grey tabby.

Chinny Chin Chin has white on her top jaw and grey on her chin.

Joey so in case he turned out to be a girl he could be Josie.  Some of these are more like reasons than meanings I guess.  :)

This is a great question and I love reading all about the names!

My girl's name is Speedy.  She was adopted in 2012 after being a surrendered cat in very bad shape,    Her name was given by the rescue.   They told me I could change it, but I decided because it was her given name she should keep it.  She is a Siamese and calico mix with beautiful blue eyes.  I have given her an official second name Raylene because I know my Dad sent her to be with me.  He passed in 2010 and his beloved kitty Rachel went to Rainbow Bridge just two weeks before I met Speedy.  My Dad's name was Raymond or Ray, I forgot to add.  So, sometimes, I say, Speedy and sometimes Speedy Raylene!  Speedy Raylene has beautiful blue eyes just like my Dad did.  When I approached her at the rescue, she turned to me and I was stunned by her beautiful, blue  eyes  and thought of my Dad.

My cat's name is Waffles. Some years ago my daughter and I started naming our pets with food names. I was looking at a list of names on the internet and Waffles just fit- he's white with grey tabby patches.

Over the years we've had Oreo and Brownie (gerbils), Snickers (a mutt dog), Mocha (a black pug), and Milkshake (a Norwegian Forest Cat-looking cat.)

Katie's (my daughter) cat is Beans, a sleek totally black 5 month old kitten.

We call them Wafles and Frijoles, too...

When I was a kid, I went through a Disney phase.  I had a cat named Pocahontas, a dog named Pinocchio, and a pony named Casper.

Names are so fun. I forgot about a golden retreiver named Taffy too.
