So my cat had five beautiful babies two weeks ago tomorrow. The kittens are pooping and all that just fine. Mama Cat's stool has been very runny (yellow and highly odorous) lately.

My husband thinks it's because she cleans the babies so much. I'm kind of concerned.

First, congratulations on the babies.  We'd love to see photos.

Unfortunately, that's not normal and it sounds like she has an infection or a parasite.  She should see a vet and get treatment as soon as possible.  The babies may also need treatment.

Is mom indoor only?  Can you keep her inside and away from intact males until the babies are weaned and she can be spayed?  I am concerned about the stress on her body.

She is strictly indoors. She'll be getting spayed once babies are weaned. We aren't going through this again, lol.

I tried to upload image, but I'm on my phone presently.

Has she been properly devwormed?

Indoor only cats dont get often worms, but it may certainly happen.

Eating up kittens poo is a burden for her bowel system, but still, its NOT common they get such a diarrheas from it.

The easiest and best way out is to consult a decently skilled vet.

My pregnant stray cat had a similar problem. My vet said it was probably due to stress and/or worms. She had five kittens, she lost alot of weight and continued to have diarrhea until I put her on different food, natures variety raw bites. The chicken kind. Your kitty could also have worms, especially if she has fleas. Try giving her a little pumpkin. Weruva makes pumpkin pouches that I always keep on hand. I.think a trip to the vet is in order though. A nursing momma that has diarrhea is a real concern.good luck! I hope she gets better

The reason we suspected cleaning the babies is because her tummy is very sensitive. So far only 9 Lives(plus care) hasn't messed up her belly.

We'll take her in.

Yellow usually indicates infection. She probably needs antibiotics to clear it. It's good you're taking her in. In the meantime, adding a probiotic into her wet food and a tablespoon of plain, canned pumpkin may help.

She can't have wet food. Tears up her belly. I'll look for pumpkin puree

Ah, okay. You can mix the probiotic powder into the pumpkin. Just make sure it's plain pumpkin and not the pie spice kind.

Hopefully this diarrhea gets better after treatment, and mom can go back to eating some wet food soon. Poor mom!

She can't have wet food at all, sick or not.

She seems to be okay right now.

That's good. I hope you'll try the pumpkin though. It really helps diarrhea.

Hi all. Mom and babies are doing fine! They are now 3.5 weeks old

They are quickly outgrowing their playpen and I'm not sure where to put them that would be safe for everyone.

any ideas?

I'll post photos this evening.

Do you have a spare room where it's safe and you can close the door? That would be ideal. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I don't. That's the downside.

Can you keep them in your bedroom with the door closed then?

That's what I did until mine were 6 weeks old and big enough to access other areas of the home. It's mainly a safety concern.

The babies at 4 weeks old.  My solid black on the bottom right isn't looking so solid black. Top fur is black, undercoat is white/gray.

All are healthy and active.

Well, I noticed some noisy, runny poo come out of Bandit a few minutes ago. We haven't seen them poo yet because they are still nursing.

We'll be introducing kitten food soon.

They all need to go to get for check ups but we can't afford it.
