He's started waking me up by tapping me with his paw so he can talk to me

I'm using a mix of litters, he's not at all fussy and I'm trying to decide which one I prefer. So I have Bio Catolet (which is all paper) and some stuff I can't remember the name of, but it's made from cereal husks. And then a few handfuls of cheap non-clumping litter from the supermarket. It means I can put the litter into the food waste bins if it's mostly paper/cereal :D He doesn't seem to mind what goes in there, as long as there's enough in there for him to fling it around. When I get paid at the end of the month I'll buy him a box with high sides I think.

@Stewball

Now I think about it my very first cat near the end of his life (when he became an indoor cat because he was going senile and blind as well as ill) would often be found sleeping in the litter after it'd be cleaned.

Arcturus is doing much better with the washing machine, he's still not at all keen on the hoover and still hasn't come out from behind the sofa (twenty minutes later). Otherwise he's still doing wonderfully, and has taken to standing on me in bed as if he wants to sit down on me (which Otto LOVES to do), but he's still not quite sure about that. I've taken his carrier out again and left it under the desk again. He's not to eat after about 9 this evening, so that'll be interesting in the morning when he wakes me up for his breakfast.

Not being able to giving able to give them breakfast is the worst. My cat was especially upset since I had to feed my other cat, but she couldn't have anything. I waited until she was in the carrier and she howled!

Hope all goes well with Arcturus with his dental.

He's gorgeous. Does he have a Scottish accent?
@Stewball ...You had me laughing here.

I kept picturing Sean Connery (as a young James Bond), Daniel Craig (not scottish but plays a gorgeous james Bond), or the Outlander (Sam Heughan).

Of course we all know that cats are 'international' and can have multiple accents...depending on which they want to use that day. (joke or maybe truth)

The above photo would look good for Arcturus, if he ever wanted a passport, and went on some international adventures. (silly I know...cats don't have passports.)

Tapping you with his paw. That is so cute. Unless it's like earlier than 7am...then not so cute.
At least tapping is quieter than meowing, I suppose.

Gosh, I guess he is just so happy, and has a lot to say, to you. Hopefully, he will settle down, and get into a routine...where he only 'talks and taps you' when you are awake.

I still think that it's adorable, though, but I'm not the one being awoken from my dreams.

That is great to try out different litters, and Arc does not mind. I use mostly clumping clay, and we have a 'green bin' system/compost system, here, which picks up cat poop/litter but I would not mind trying other products that I read about, to see which ones would be more efficient.

As for litter boxes, some of us members just use the regular style 'rubbermaid high sided boxes' or clear under-storage plastic boxes that are wider and longer, lower sided.

So you really don't have to buy a cat litter box, but be inventive and see what works for you. I buy inexpensive ones.

Mine are similar to this one, but with lower sides, and grey. http://www.thecatsite.com/products/rubbermaid-storage-box

But my favourite are the clear ones, so I can tell how much litter is actually in them. http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-40-Qt-Premium-Underbed-Box-in-Clear-PC271606-001/204793104

Maybe you have something similar in the big stores over there.

The hoover--vacuum cleaner is still scaring Arc. None of my cats or dog, like it, either. They go scrambling for safety when it is on.

(Here's a thread about cute cat commercial where the 'older cat is teaching the kitten' about the 'hoover...vacuum'...called 'Dear Kitten'.

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/280350/dear-kitten  ...it's from a while back but still so true.)

  @NewYork1303   ...is so right.

(My rainbow cat Spotty could not understand why I did not feed him, and kept going around walking about. My sister had to put him into another room, so she could get ready for work, and have her own breakfast.)

Hope All goes fine, too.

I'm so glad you brought this video up....I think about it when I bring out my kitty's ultimate nemesis "vacuum" [emoji]128569[/emoji]

Good luck to you and Arc tomorrow. I will be looking forward to hearing that he is home and being loved on by mum [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Thank you all :heart4:

There was a thing on the radio station I listen to about cats having regional accents, they were trying to make the newsreader guess where each cat was from. :lol3:

Arc put up a bit more of a fuss this time, and it took three attempts to get him into the carrier. Eventually he gave up and just lay down and let me put him in. He didn't bite or scratch or even hiss, just wiggled. Such a well behaved cat! He did very well taking the bus to the vets and because we were early we sat outside for ten minutes and he was very curious. Still just wanted to be stroked too.

I left him with one of the nurses, and he let her stroke him in the cage. I can ring in about five hours if they haven't rung me. Fingers crossed! :vibes:

I picked up some raw extra virgin coconut oil, so I'll ask the vet about that when I pick him up. I've been looking for canned pumpkin I'd actually want to feed him too.

He's home and not too pleased with me! I don't blame him really. He's still out of it but is happily sat under the sofa sort of snoring, and he's eaten a small packet of really good food. He'll have another in a few more hours which I'll put the Metacam in.

He only needed one tooth removed, which is excellent news. I was expecting a lot more than that. We're going back on Wednesday so his stitches can be checked and his test results should be back by then. He's having 1.5 tablets of Synulox twice a day for a week, and Metacam once a day for five days. He had a Synulox injection today, so the tablets will start tomorrow. Hopefully I can hide them in the stinky good food. Apparently he was very well behaved too :D

Once he's off the Synulox I'm going to start him on the coconut oil, probably about an 1/8 teaspoon every few days to start with. The vet was a bit skeptical, but I'm very much in favour of natural remedies where possible. I couldn't get hold of any pumpkin that I'd want to feed him, so if he gets diarrhea from the Synulox I've nothing to give him to help him. Fingers crossed he doesn't get any side effects though.

Here's the nasty tooth, I was very excited I got to keep it.

Successful first dose of Metacam, he's licking the bowl clean!

What a sweet little man [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Thank you for posting about Arc's dental expirence. I need to bring my girl in for her first cleaning but have for some reason felt really apprenhensive about it-mostly the anesthesia part and aftercare. Seeing how beautifully Arcturus is doing (including having an extraction!) makes me feel better about getting it scheduled and over with [emoji]128522[/emoji]

What a good patient! It's always a relief when you need to give medication and the cat is a good eater!

Out of curiosity, what is the coconut oil for?

It was quite nerve wracking, even if I logically knew that it was very likely to be fine. But then their our babies, we're bound to worry a lot. I'm already seeing a difference in how he's eating, which is fantastic. So definitely go ahead!

We'll see how the tablets go tomorrow... :lol3:

Raw Virgin coconut oil is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, so a small amount every few days should help his immune system and will be good for his coat and skin too. By small amount, it's about half a teaspoon max a day. There's been some studies in humans which indicate it has a positive effect on HIV, so perhaps it's the same in cats. If it doesn't agree with him I can use it for my dry skin.
