This is a lovely diary. I only just found it. You must enjoy his affection.
I have 2 cats completely uninterested in me. Well 15% interested.
Any case, keep writing about your beautiful boy.

Every time I see a new Arcturus photo, I don't think he can look any sweeter....then you post another [emoji]10084[/emoji]️
He's very photogenic, when he's not making his judgey face. His new thing is needing to sleep touching me and it melts me every single time (I've been sat here for two hours so he can sleep!).

...Yes, I think @Rhondalee...said it best.  I would change it to "good Meowmy"...but it means the same.

Sitting for 2 hours, and not moving so Arcturus can sleep, is amazing. Though, if you have some pressing things to do, then it may be a problem.

But then again, humans need to relax too, and get some "quality purr therapy" ...as one smart and wise member has reminded me.

Snoring should count as purring, too.

@cat nap
Thank you! It's completely amazing that in eight days he's settled in so well, I still can'\t believe how different he looks and behaves from the scared cat I first met.

That's useful to know and might explain it.

It's almost as good as having a cat on my lap so I don't mind too much :D He's even happier at the moment because I have insomnia and have been awake for the last two hours which are prime stroking time for Arc.

@reversedpolarit...I totally agree. I had to look back at the date you first got Arcturus...and thought..."you must have some special 'cat whisper skills' or something"...because Arc settled in so quick.

(ahh, I never really thought that 'insomnia' would be useful for anything. Yes, I guess that it would make our cats 'happier' with added 'stroking and patting time'.

And I guess reading great TCS (the Cat Site) 'threads' and all.  Now, you've at least 'spun it for a positive' for me.

I get it too, so one of us 'TCS insomniacs' will have to post another thread in the "Lounge" and ask for help.

Mind you, we'd probably just be discussing more relaxing ways of 'stroking/brushing/watching our cats' and how relaxing that is...nothing about warm milk, or herbal teas, audiobooks and stuff.

And then back to reading 'threads'.)

I wish we can learn to sleep like our cats, they seem to drop out, like a light.

Hope you did get some quality sleep...@reversedpolarit...even if only for a few hours.

@cat nap   oh I wish I could sleep like a cat, that'd be wonderful. Not much sleep because Arc would not settle when I eventually went back to bed.

He's been very talkative today, we've had several conversations
And he's been playing by himself every few hours or so. He'll stalk up to a toy and then start batting it around the room until he loses it and I have to find it for him. It's very cute to watch.

Otherwise not much to write about, I've now fully switched his litter to 80% eco stuff and some cheap stuff to bulk it out a bit. Somehow it means he makes less of a mess which is good (he does tend to fling a bit) and it's even better at masking smells unless I'm crouched down scopping it out. Which is pretty great, this isn't the largest flat and I don't want it to stink of cat pee!

Arc is warming up to BF, he was very happily purring whilst we both stroked him. He's currently sat next to BF on the sofa whilst we watch TV. :D

Arcturus seems like a very smart cat, then.

Since, he can get his 'cat servant/guardian' to "go find" the "lost toys" that he bats around.

Actually, I do think this is quite typical cat behaviour, I'm just amazed at 'how our cats actually get us to exercise more than they do'.

"Cat conversations"...

Was he mostly asking you to get his toys, or his food, or asking about the weather? Sweet boy.

Very glad that Arc is warming up to your BF, but it was a little hard to tell from that photo. Arcturus, looked more interested in the TV, or wall, or something.

Maybe a riveting t.v. show. Nice that he was at least sitting close, though.

@reversedpolarit   Can I ask you about the "Loyalty Program" that you mentioned?

Is that some sort of vet payment plan? As in a monthly payment plan, to pay vets?

@cat nap   He can be pretty dumb too (...sleeping in the litter box...).

Mostly it was 'STROKE ME, you've not for at least ten minutes now'

Unfortunately it's not easy to photograph him with other people round! But yes, it's amazing progress that he suddenly voluntarily sat with both of us. He's good at surprising me!

The loyalty programme is a £10.99 monthly payment which means I get 'free' stuff and will almost certainly prove to be worthwhile. So there's a six monthly check up (without the consultation fee of £38), flea/worm treatment every year, booster vaccines, I think a 10% discount on everything else and 20% off lifetime meds and most importantly about £150 off dental cleaning and minor extraction. It's about the same cost as insurance would be and is far, far, more useful with Arc given that he'll definitely be getting six monthly check ups etc. It's called 'Healthy Pet Club'.

The healthy pet club seems like an excellent way to go. I'm going to mention it to my vet and see if she ever thought about something like that.

Sleeping in a (clean) litter box is not uncommon when cats are nervous! It has nice secure walls on 4 sides that feel safe, plus litter conforms to the body so I assume it's pretty comfortable. Has he stopped doing that now that he's gotten more confident?

@Rhondalee  I think it's run by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons here in the UK.

@Molly92   Luckily yes he has, just that once he decided it'd be a good napping spot. That was before he discovered the windowsils and behind the sofa.

Don't let Arcturus hear you say that.

Then those 'conversations' will most likely be 'mumbles' and 'stink-eye stares' to actual asking for 'never ending stroking'.

I would have guessed that he just liked boxes, but what @Molly92 said, makes the most sense.

He probably likes the smell, too, if you are using any of the 'eco-friendly products' that smell like cedar wood, or sawdust. (I just put baking soda in my boxes, mixed with the clay type clumping litter, but you've given me more ideas to try, now.)

Thanks for the info on the loyalty programme--"Healthy Pet Club".

It sounds like a good plan...if it includes all that.

(Over here, they do have some "Wellness type plans" that I've seen in brochures, but I think that some only give 10% off discounts, while others may cover annual exams, vacc's, and perhaps some more discounts...so will also have to check into those. They are only available at certain vet practices, though.)

(I remember being prepared for the 'sticker shock' feeling too, when getting the 'dental done, with 6 teeth removal'...since it was the extra teeth, that we did not know about.

But I share the costs with my sister, so it was not so bad. It was similar to the first cost you were quoted, but a little higher...at $830 cdn, which is about 440 GBP. A discount there, would have been good.)

It was so worth it, though, and I regret that I did not do it sooner.

Yes, great idea...to mention this to our own vets, too.

When my late lotto was old and unwell he quite often "went to ground" in the litter box. I think they do get comfort from it. I always took him out. Me mean.
