Bizarre. I think our cats collars are pretty much the same as when we got them. We've only had to buy new ones in the past when the collar clasps broke.
We use Beastie band collars because one of my cats is an absolute Houdini with all other collars. Anything with a clasp, she can open. Beasie bands have a velcro closure and are stretchy along the entire length.

I think we had problems with the clasps since we took them off every night. Since we stopped doing that, we've had no problems. If our cats could wear tags, we would probably use beastie bands.

I ended up paying a little extra to add color too.

Tesla, kiwi and zazzie are mad at me because I gave them their dose of Advantage II flea treatment today. Here is a picture of Tesla giving me the stink eye a few minutes ago:

Lovely tag, but I hope there's another one with your phone numbers on it.  We got Jasmine a tag with her name on the front and our phone numbers on the back.

Jasmine had a Beastie Band collar for about a year before it frayed too much.  I replaced it with a stretch collar I bought at PetSmart.  It has a standard buckle rather than a breakaway clasp (which Jasmine is adept at removing), and the stretch part is designed like a stretch watch band.  It will stretch enough for her to get out of it should she ever get out and get it caught on something (I tested), but because it's a stretch collar I'm able to make it tight enough that it doesn't get caught easily.  I'm hoping this one will last longer than the Beastie Band.

I did have to put an extra hole in it for the buckle, and cut off some extra length to make it fit her.

Yes the tag has my phone number, adress, and it also says Indoor only, if I'm out, I'm lost! On the back side.

And beastie bands are my favorite collars to use since they have a strong velcro closure. As I stated earlier, I have one cat that is a Houdini with collars and can get any collar with a buckle off (including the ones that were like dog collars and weren't breakaway). I don't know how she did it, but she'd have the collars off within seconds of putting them on, even when fitted a little tightly. But she hasn't been able to remove her beastie band once! I'm okay with replacing them every few months, I usually buy 6 or 9 at a time so I don't have to keep ordering them over and over. That way if I buy 9, I'll have 3 replacement collars for each of our cats and I won't have to wait for new collars to be delivered every few months.

I've always been affraid of collars on my cats. Seems to be a paranoia I can't overcome. I would like to, but I always envision everything that could possibly go wrong and opt out of it.

No emails related to the can of worms.... so far
At least none where I was included. I'm sure there was a whole bunch of emails going back and forth between that person, the lab head, and my supervisor after I had left yesterday.

Mercy at 7lbs is the master of getting her collar hung. And without fail. And I've witnessed it they claps opens. She is getting better BTW and aware of her collar. Yes they do become aware of the collar on their neck.

I test each clasp on a collar individually not by brand. You want tone that opens easily but not without a fair amount of pressure.

I think we all have our own phobias about how our cats can get hurt.  There is a horror story for everything. To me a collar and tag on a pet says someone loves me to the person who might find them.

Just got home from work and will be going in again this afternoon (really, really  trying to come down from the caffeine--I think the energy drink got mixed up with my normal soda). Last night was gross. Second shift was slammed so most of the stuff that was supposed to have been done wasn't. For some reason there was hair  in the rollergrill. (Gross, I know, but I cleaned it all off and it was, if you'll pardon my pun, clean enough to eat off of when I finished. All I could do was pray that no one gets sick from the hair.) I was in major clutz mode last night; tripping over things, running into things, and somehow managed to rip the webbing of my running shoes--both  shoes. Got scratched and bruised--but no allergy attacks.
(Not always a given; sometimes I'm allergic to perfume.) The clowder of cats that hunts in the area has grown to seven (and someone is  taking care of them--they've all got the ear tip clip that means they've been TNR'd. They're very wary of humans, but they eat roaches and  waterbugs! (I've seen them do it!) They're awesome for that reason alone, and we have customers that come in and buy cat food to put out for them (they're the healthiest stray cats I've ever seen). I came across an interesting article I wanted to share with everyone here https://www.yahoo.com/news/texas-city-council-votes-reinstate-library-cat-223340081.html?nhp=1

If you read this, thanks for reading my babbling. If not, meh.

For reasons unknown people are pigs when using either food or restroom facilities not in their own homes. Thank you for being a good person and actually cleaning up the hairy mess.

I enjoy your babblings. I never even signed the petition for the library cat. I knew how it was going to end. In favor of the cat.

Last night I hit the gym. I pushed myself and STILL didn't wear myself out. I must be amazon woman. There were two guys who I see every tues and thurs. They kept setting off the lunk alarm. They were using the smith machine next to me as well. They were joking around with me and encouraging me. They kept saying look at her go. I told them to move it. Push it. So it was funny how I still spent 2 hours there. I pushed harder on the chest press. I am determined to get to 100 lbs. I am 15 lbs away from my new goal. I am only slightly sore.

I ate half of a powerbar on the elliptical before I lifted. and drank some gaterade. I keep getting headaches. And even with eating before. I drink 2 to 3 liters of water while I workout but I think I need to make my own electrolyte mix because I must be sweating all the salt and potassium out. I drank gaterade the other day and I didn't get no wheres the headache, even though its loaded with sugar I will deal with it.

got home to check the AC because we just put it in the window the previous night. And its not tipped enough to drain AND the manufacturer didn't put a discharge nozzle or anything so the water can drip.

tonight Going to drill some holes in the case underneath so it will drain but I wont put it on the bottom but instead on the front lip 1" from the bottom. I have to research and find out if that water that collects in that tray is important for running the AC. as far as I know its just condensation but that's today's project-find out how to make it drain better and figure out a way to tip it more so it drains not back into my window. The water doesn't seem to be going anywhere or its so hot it just evaporates. There's no drainage back into the window or against the house. I hate water running down the side of the house-so afraid of mold and mildew that I am overzealous about this.

Instead of messing around with this darn AC I rather go swimming after work. I may just say heck with it and just grab my shorts and top and go swimming and deal with it later. Supposed to be hot. 94.

I also have to get my oil changed In my truck and get the cats their yearly appointment. I have to get the rest of them microchipped. I cant remember if the older two are microchipped-one came from a shelter but it was many years ago-may have been before microchipping. The only thing that irritates me is paying a fee to keep the information updated on that chip. I shouldn't have to pay a yearly membership. Sometimes I think its a big money making scheme to keep us spending money.

We use the breakaway collars from Pet Smart.  Some days Eclipse will keep taking his off and parading in front of me to see if I notice.  Nope, Kim does and goes hunting for it.  We also buy in bulk, and have 3 or 4 collars lost somewhere in the house.  Fluffy can take hers off as well and sometimes hers will come off when the cats are wrestling.

Replaced the evil scale that claimed I weighed 175, 180 and 250 pounds in a 10 minute period.  New scale says I weigh 175.2 this morning!

Going off to have a consultation with a Functional Practitioner this morning.  His original degree is DC but he has expanded and his focus is thyroid issues.  DH is supposed to go with me (per doctor) and I told them it wasn't enough notice for him to take off work.  DH has declared the doctor is a quack! and is not going.  I want to hear what he has to say but am pretty sure I can't afford him.  Maybe he will work with me where I only see him every few months.  Pretty sure my insurance is not going to cover this guy.  My primary doctor says she will not process lab claims from him due to possible mediolegal issues.  I know I am off to a good start but all the Hasimoto's books say labs need to be done and interpreted.  I am not sure why or what they will tell me.

@Tallyollyopia   I'm pretty sure it's time for another excerpt form Magic School and Egg.

@Donutte have you considered using a head hunter to find a job for you?  Some charge the companies a fee when they hire one of their clients and don't charge the clients.  I'm sorry it has reached the point where you dread going in.

Just got acouple of 1/4" drills from one of the machinists. I will be drilling those holes in the AC tonight so I don't have to chop the wood shorter. I still can't get over how it has no hose or anything to drain. Maybe I will build some kind of nozzle at the corners to drain but for now they told me to drill two holes at the very corners where it sits out of the window. Hopefully pine needles won't get in there and block it. I thought about putting some kind of netting on the sides because already got leaves in the tray. So hopefully this will solve the problem. Thank GOODNESS for cordless drills. Those suckers come in handy!

There was this one time (I feel more comfortable talking about it now because of the time period that has lapsed since it happened so that I don't accidentally humiliate the poor kid) when I was working that this little kid, about four or five, came in. The poor kid tried his hardest to make it to the bathroom--but he just couldn't do it. As I was cleaning up the mess he looked up at me with tears in his eyes and asked, "Why is your bathroom all the way in the back?" Poor thing! (I'm glad his mother came in with a change of clothes.) Of course I cleaned the mess (both that one and the one last night); that's part of my job. Besides, it's unsanitary not  to clean it, and we serve food! (And, if you count candy and potato chips, food-like products.)

I didn't even know about the petition until I saw the article about its resolution. (Interesting how that one councilman was so insistent on proving that he likes cats...)

Not condoning firworks wars, but what kind of bottle rockets were they using? Must've been the larger ones. The tiny ones can do some damage too though.

And I've been on Etsy looking at custom pet tags. I really shouldn't have done that, because now I reeeealllly want one from this shop:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/TagMePetTags?ref=listing-shop2-all-items-count#items

They are custom made to order and hand made/etched and they are so cool like omg I want one for all 3 of my cats. But there's no way I'd be able to buy 3 at the same time. I may buy just one at a time.
I've no clue what kind/size they were.  I tend to stay well away from folks who think it is tons of fun to fire bottle rockets AT EACH OTHER...You've heard, of course, the "Good Ol' Boy" famous last words?  "HEY YA'LL, LOOKIT HERE! (aside)  Billy Bob, hold mah beer,"

Those tags are beautiful.  I may have to save my pennies!

Leroy can rip off a velcro or safety buckle closure collar off in seconds :doh3: I only use a non-safety buckle collar (actually I think it's a puppy collar) for him. I have pretty generic ID mouse shaped tags for each cat. Emma's tag includes her microchip number on the backside and on the front it says "More info on back" since oftentimes people don't bother to check the back of tags for any info. My previous cat also had a small medical alert tag because he was diabetic and needed insulin. That tag included the vet's phone number.
Wow, really? Even a beastie band? Wow, he must be more inventive than my Zazzie (who can open any collar with a buckle/clasp and the non-safety buckle collars). I think she used to purposely hook the buckled collars we got her around the tops of our dining room chairs (which have blunt metal rods at the top) so she could pull it off. I know she used to use her tags to pull the m off too, she would hook her claws in the loops/rings for her tags and yank her collar off.

And yes all of them have other tags (although I will probably take tesla's off when his new tag gets here), little paw prints that are blank on the front but have their names, our phone number, adress and they also say Indoor only, if found outside, I am lost!

I felt like tesla should have another tag because he has the longest fur out of our 3 cats, and you cant even see his collar ot tag the majority of the time, so I got him a big 1.5 inch tag to hang off his collar. Hopefully it won't get lost in his fluff like his other tag does lol.

The reason I'd take Tesla's other tag off when the new one comes is because I know that stainless steel will grind against the beautiful brass tag I just paid a lot of money for, and they have the same info on them.

I think most people are smart enough to look on the back of the tags, since all dogs in my area are required to wear a collar and tags by law and many dog tags are made that way: name on the front, info on back.

“Were you released from kitchen duty?” asked Ban'cha as she sat down next to him.

“Until dinner,” she said glumly. “And I'm cleanup then.” She tucked into her food (Yarey noticed that she had two pieces of the pie and no crisp brown bits) as Yarey introduced her to the group. “Nice to meet you,” she told the group in general. She looked at Yarey and Ban'cha (who was almost done with his food). “So, what are you doing this afternoon?” she asked.

“I don't know,” said Yarey.

“We don't really have plans,” offered Anba.

“I was told to explore and get the feel of campus,” said Ban'cha. “Well, my whole group was told the same thing—but I thought it'd be best if I went my own way.”

Shysera nodded thoughtfully. “You might be right,” she said. “Well,” she said looking around at the small group of potential students, “why don't the group of you come with me to my afternoon classes?”

“That sounds like fun,” said Yarey brightly.

“Is that allowed?” asked Odandi.

“Well, potential students don't really have a lot of duties outside of caring for their egg or brand-new soulling and learning their way around the campus,” Shysera said. “And I've never heard that it's against the rules.”

“Well, Rarta did say she would have to speak to the headmaster,” Odandi said thoughtfully.

“You need to ask the headmaster something?” asked Shysera looking at Yarey with surprise.

“I'm used to exercising everyday,” Yarey told her. “But very few of the exercises I know can be done holding the egg, and the headmaster said not to put it down.”

“True,” said Shysera. “You can't put it down.” Suddenly she shook her head and then grinned at them. Yarey watched as Oskald, still on Shysera's shoulder, leaned down and began eating one of the meat pies. “So, it's settled then. After we're done with lunch we'll go to the practice yard.”

“Well, I think it's a good idea,” said Ban'cha. He slipped his spoon under the crisp brown bits on Yarey's plate and pulled them over to his plate in one coordinated move. She noticed that his tray was completely empty. “After all, you never know when you might have to defend yourself.”

Odandi sighed and filled a couple of the goblets on the table from a tankard. A sip proved to Yarey that the contents were lightly spiced cider and she took a gulp of the liquid. “Thank you,” she said when she swallowed.

Odandi was glaring at Ban'cha. “You don't need to steal food,” she told him curtly.

Yarey turned her head and saw that he'd already finished the crisp brown bits. “Ah, lighten up,” he told the girl. “Yarey's full anyway.”

Yarey was surprised to realize that he was right; she was full. How had he known? Maybe his knowing that was a fairy thing that all fairies, or at least fairies of whatever type Ban'cha was, could do. She could see where that would be useful.

“Besides,” Ban'cha said waving his spoon at Odandi, “wasting food is wrong.”

“That's true,” Yarey commented. She looked at Shysera and noticed that the young woman was almost finished with her lunch, and that Odandi and Anba were finished. “What are we supposed to do with these?” she asked.

Shysera gulped down her food and then said, “Give me a moment to finish and I'll show you.”

“All right,” said Yarey.

“So, why do you exercise everyday? Did you have a harsh dance master?” asked Anba.

“Oh, no,” said Yarey. “I trained with my cousins and the weaponsmaster.”

“Time to go,” said Shysera as she put her goblet on the tray and stood up. The potential students mimicked her actions and Yarey took a moment to wonder why, if the stairs were coated in an unknown substance and the trays were an unknown substance, the goblets were made of wood.

“Are spells practiced in the same place as the live weapons?” asked Ban'cha as they made their way through the food hall to a window in one of the walls that someone dressed in the same kind of outfit that Shysera had been in was behind.

“Not a bit,” Shysera said. “Each has a different field, and usually different teachers. The only time they're the same is when we have a mixed class—with people who have no magic learning to fight those who do and the reverse.” Shysera put her tray on the counter in front of the window and the person—Yarey couldn't tell if ti was a male or female—took it. The potential students once again mimicked her actions.

“Taking some potentials under your wing?” asked the person as he or she ferried the trays and dishes across. “Better be careful or you're gonna find yourself being a mentor.”

“Nothing wrong with that,” Shysera said.

“Besides,” Oskald added, “her teacher said that she needs to teach someone or she can't become a master.”

Shysera shot her soulling a glare. “I thought we agreed you weren't going to talk about what happened before I came here.” In response Oskald flipped his wings and settled against her neck. She rolled her eyes and led the four potential students out of the food hall. “So, like I said, magic practice and weapons practice are in different grounds. Do the group of you have a lot of book learning?”

“I have had tutors since a young age,” said Odandi.

“You're not that old now,” Anba pointed out. “But, yes, I've also had tutors.”

“I shared my cousins' tutors,” Yarey offered.

“I know my maths and language,” said Ban'cha as they came up to it.

They came up to a building that was a large dome formed from mud-brown bricks and mortar. If there were windows, they were on the top of the dome where Yarey couldn't see them. The building was also large, easily large enough to hold the building they'd been in for the introduction. Yarey had to stop and stare at it.

“They say it was one of the first buildings on campus,” said Shysera as she paused with them. “I hear that it's also the reason for the rivalries involving the buildings created by former students.” She got behind them and shooed them like a goose-girl with her charges. “You won't learn anything by staring at the building.”

It sure is hot out there.

I am glad you wrote more! I can't wait to read it tonight so I can focus better!

I can't wait to get home and drill that hole out of the AC case to drain the darn water. I was fiddling with a digital level trying to figure out what 15 degrees looks like so I can make sure I have the right degrees tilt on the window unit. I could borrow it but I hate borrowing things. They have a small torpedo one I can borrow but those just have the bubble on top.

I had a box of all my hand tools together but then I put them in another toolbox and I couldn't find them this weekend. I hate it when I move things around. I try to keep everything in one spot.

I have to stop at Tractor Supply right after work to get catfood. The cats are being fussy about food. I don't know if its the heat or the end of the bag. I find that the last 2 cups of kibble they turn their noses up and when I buy fresh bag they eat it. I think its funny considering I put the food in ziplock bags. I would love to buy more than 2 bags but I don't know how fresh it stays in the bag. I don't know if the heat of the summer makes it go soft faster even with it in the factory sealed bags. I just wish I had a cellar or some kind of cool storage so I could buy more. I would love to have storage to buy 5 or more bags at a time. I usually buy more in the winter. We keep the bedrooms cooler in the winter-around 60 to 65. I still haven't decided what I am going to do after work. Part of me wants to sack out on the couch-part of me wants to go to the gym and watch Judge Judy and part of me wants to go swimming. I did not pack my summer clothes-I would have to stop at the house. I will think about it on the ride home. or back towards home. I wonder if the gym will be dead because its so warm out? hmm decisions decisions!

@foxxycat    The gym was pretty empty today. (Planet Fitness), except for the few teens hanging around in groups. It was just us 'diehards' in there. I had a protein bar on the way home. I thought it was going to melt if I placed in down in the car. It was that hot.

Be careful drilling that hole in the AC unit. My dad did that a million years ago and hit the freon tank!! Yup..and there was no need for him to do that because it was dripping fine, and was installed by the place where we bought it. It was a 10,000 BTU Window unit.

Yes, man is it hot out there!! My car did not cool off until I parked it in my parking spot at home!!

I did my errand today. It was at the bank. There is a huge discrepancy in my savings account between what my passbook states as balance and what the balance is on the monthly statements... man..talk about error!!

I ended up waiting a half hour while they tried to find out what happened. While I was waiting, I read the local newspaper. It still has not been resolved! The main office is going to have to do an investigation!!! kind of like an audit!! They will let me know via mail what the decision is... man...

The customer service rep was very nice. She said that either she will make an appointment with me or the bank manager to go over whatever they come up with...but, who knows.. it is their mistake!! I better get the higher amount.. man.. talk about craziness.

Artie is still not himself. He is not eating much and not pooping... I know it is a vicious cycle. Yesterday, he only ate

1 3/4 small cans. He wants to sleep, but is very alert when he is awake.

He did eat 1 1/4 cans during the night. Virtually nothing this morning. I think he just ate a bit. He came out of the kitchen, licking his chops, and now he is washing his face and body.

I really do think the fireworks did a number on him. Every time I make a sudden move, or a sound, he will jump and look at me, kind of in terror.

I think I am going to have an apple and some peanut butter soon, before I go to the shelter. I have to be there at 6pm or a bit earlier. Traffic is really bad. I live near the beach, so it will take a while to get out of this area. The traffic going up to PetSmart is bad also. It is rush hour traffic. Why did I take this shift??!!! I hate traffic...

I have to leave extra early so I can get there at a reasonable time.
