I am going to throw Da Bird in Da Trash. Hekitty is completely obsessed.  She would happily chase that little bundle of feathers for 10 hours a day.  She come to my chair and mews pitifully until I give up and grab Da Stick.  The bad thing is, when she's really tired of chasing it, she still wants me to swing the darned thing so she can just sit there and watch, fascinated!!!   HALP!!!
My Cat Dancer is out of sight when not in use! It's in a drawer, and when I go to that draw for anything, all the cats come running.

If your cat loves Da Bird, try Neko Flies. It's a fishing pole type toy as well and the toy part are kind of like those lures you put on the end of a actual fishing rod. Leroy goes bonkers for it
I do have note the tthe rubber legs on the bug-like toys come off pretty easily so you may want to trim them down a bit or remove them altogether. Leroy has pulled them off with his teeth and tried to eat them

It's so wonderfully hot here in Sacramento. I think it's about 100 degrees right now and I'm sitting on the patio reading. Man, I love summer.

Oh how I know that feeling.
The older and wiser the cat gets the less time and effort they put in to the chase and the more skilled they get at the watching and waiting too....
Sometimes I swear Mouse is secretly laughing away as he lays in his half hidden watching spot as I wave what ever toy / Da Bird around like an idiot.
You won't throw it out though, because you know how much Hekitty loves that new bundle of feathers.

@Donutte   I hope you get news about how your interview went really soon.  It sounds like it went really well what ever the outcome is so you should congratulate your self.  It can be really hard getting through interviews where you really want the job: so much more investment in doing well than if it's a job just for the money.

@Tallyollyopia  That is such a pain about yet another delay in getting the formalities sorted out.   Hope all gets sorted quickly after Monday and you can finally relax and know when you will be starting.

I've got to head off to bed now as after 1 am here and I've got work tomorrow.  Need to get some beauty sleep - and Mouse is getting restless and telling me it's time we should be in bed.   He's the boss.
Thinking everyone should have babbled the way past our 2000 mark by the time I get home tomorrow, so have fun everyone.

its nice N cool in the 60s. sun is almost done setting. dusk time. Floey is sleeping at my feet after getting catnip. she wasnt happy with me combing out her matts. she got a much needed shave today. i thought it would be better with a longer haircut-i should have shut up-had we shaved as close we wouldnt be dealing with matts-so now i only have some on her tail-i have brushed them and trimmed what I could in 5 min before she gets into full grouch mode and bites hard. so for every night i need to do a better job of brushing her-its my fault-she hates being brushed. and she is almost 17/18 so i feel like she has a right to be persnickety if she wants.

When Asia was doing the same thing with her bird toy, I anchored the stick to a shelf so that the feathered body dangled down and she can play with it or not at her leisure. (Not sure if it'll help, but that's what I did.)

This da bird toy intrigues me. I wonder if my cats would like it. They seem to prefer the simplest of toys. Heinrich has been carrying around a plastic wrapper from an ice cream carton for about four days now. I wish I were that easily entertained.

I'm glad my cats are not that obsessed with da bird. They enjoy it, but they only get that obsessed when it has brand new feathers they want to munch.

There are rumors that Da Bird is bird scented.  I believe it, but only the quail feathers that look natural.  My cats don't go as crazy for the colorful dyed feathers.  Sometimes I take it out on our walks so Eclipse can chase a bird outside.

Only 49 more posts to go to 2000. I'm going to bed now, so I'll miss the excitement. Looking forward to seeing who the winner is in the morning. Good luck and good night to all.

I have a couple stick/string toys but my cats only seem interested for a little bit. And sometimes they'll start squabbling over who gets to jump for the toy so they end up fighting/playing with each other instead of the toy.

No help here. Just snickering...I have a terrible time remembering the 15 word rule. I really try honest I do. I need to send you a second Da Brd so that you can swing one from each hand. Keep those muscles nice and even.

I don't think it's a smell thing. I've seen Asia hold Da Bird in her mouth the same way that she holds a real bird that she's killed (yes, our babies hunt--and we like it that way), complete with deep, gutteral growl.

Quick! Add more words to your post! You need at least 15 words, not including quoted posts.

I don't think Da Bird smells like real bird feathers either
I added words. Now I have to add more words. No they don't smell like real birds. The one I have looks like a bird in flight when I swish it around. Flutters just like a real bird.

I'm making some dinner right now. Nothing fancy, just spaghetti and sauce. I'm so so lazy when it comes to cooking. I usually just eat junk. Wish I were better about it.

I was thinking about the hunting cat debate today. My boss had rats in the engine of her car that did 6000 dollars worth of damage. She says its because the coyotes in the area have eaten all of the cats so the cats are either dead or being kept inside since people have noticed the cats disappearing. There was never a rat problem before and there were tons of cats.

Some time ago I posted that I modified a shoebox into a toy for the cats. This is the video that inspired me:

This is what I modified it to:

Then I put some dry cat food inside the box (they're not eating it, just playing with it).

So far, the only two cats I haven't seen playing with it are Spot and Asia. Ra, Rose, and Princess have been having fun. (I'm going to have to tie it closed, because Princess has figured out how to flip it upside down and open it..)

Just thought I'd share.

Smart Princess!  I take toilet paper rolls and staple them shut at one end and put treats and kibble in there, it takes them a while to get all the goodies out. On the tile of the kitchen they manage to bat it all over the floor, on the carpet not so much.
