Wait at least 6-8 weeks, until the kittens are weaning well. They continue to nurse, but milk production does slow down in some cats.

Very pregnant mama - due any day now - has had this odd whitish discharge for quite a while now. It's not constant but consistent, if that makes sense. I first thought it was the mucous plug when I saw it over a week ago, but still no babies and it's frequency has increased (or she's just unable to clean it as easily since she's bigger).

Should I be worried about this? Shes eating and drinking well/normally, not lethargic, doesn't seem to be in pain. There is no odor from the discharge. Kittens are very active and moving around a lot. Basically everything is totally fine other than the discharge, which may be normal? But I just have no idea.

Photos below, leaving lots of space: for those who don't want to see, don't scroll down.

After seeing another post here tonight with the same concern and seeing her photos I'm pretty sure it's the mucous plug and she's just been losing it bit by bit over a longer time instead of all at once. Keeping an eye on her tho just in case.

It looks and sounds normal to me. Do you know when your cat is due?

Nope. She's a rescued stray and was pregnant when I got her, i had another thread here where we speculated some but really it's just all guesswork.

Started feeling the babies move about a week and a half ago so I'd say soon for sure

I felt my cats kittens about 2 weeks before so I'm sure you've not got long to wait

Still no kittens. She expelled some... White-ish Watery mucus? On Thursday and I thought for sure labor was starting as she was restless and vocal but as soon as she expelled the goop she settled back down again and there's been nothing since other than the same discharge mentioned in earlier posts.

She's not running a fever or lethargic, she's eating and drinking well and still quite playful so I don't think she's in any trouble but I'd love for her to get on with it so I can stop worrying so much! ;)

Yes, the worrying will make you crazy! The discharge sounds normal. She's getting closer though! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Ah, Braxton hicks! So strange that the process is so similar to a human pregnancy, but I guess it's all basically the same idea, lol.

It's a bit ironic that she ended up with me of all people - I have no kids of my own and never intend to, never been around babies and generally avoid holding them or interacting with them, I'm just not a baby/birth person. The whole system just kinda grosses me out! (And before you assume I'm a teenager, I'm actually in my 30's - just didn't get the mama gene I guess!)

Anyway, life has a sense of humor I guess. Yuck! Good thing she's so cute. ;)
Big difference between babies and kittens. If you're not maternal then you're not maternal. It's not a crime but kittens are a completely different story. They grow up so quickly and are such fun. You can't compare. Enjoy the kitty's babies. Does she have a name? ,

She does, thank goodness! And as for a name, I didn't know if we were going to be able to keep her so I kept putting off naming her. now that I know she's sticking around I've been calling her "mama" for so long that nothing else seems right, so I guess it stuck! She answers to it already! It's the same way our other cat ended up being named "kitty". I guess I'd better name the kittens right away. ;)

Thanks for the reassurance! I just gave her some wet food tonight and she's totally ignored it so maybe we're getting closer. She's curled up asleep on my feet at the moment. [emoji]128571[/emoji]

Got here late, and the best advice is given.  I'm just hanging around waiting on kittens.  Bless you for taking her in.  Remind me, when it's all over with, to tell you about the cat I had who insisted on kittening on my lap.

For what it's worth:

When I realized Sweet Thing was pregnant I set up a birthing box for her in a bottom dresser drawer (remembering that the cat we had when I was a child chose my underwear drawer to give birth in).  Lots of newspaper and rags.  I showed it to her, and she seemed uninterested.

I first realized she was in labor when she was sitting on my lap and occasionally "hiccuping."  It had been going on for a while before I realized that it was happening too regularly to be hiccups.

Once I realized she was having contractions, I took her to her birthing box and left her there so I could clear the decks by using the toilet.  She followed me to the bathroom, crying because I was leaving her.  I tried to reassure her that I'd be back just as soon as I was done with the toilet, but she wasn't having any.  She wanted me with her, MeNow!!!, so I simply allowed her to stay with me until I got off the toilet -- not much else I could do.  Then I carried her back to her birthing box.

Except for when she was pushing too hard to breath, she purred the entire time she was giving birth, as long as my hand was on her.

She had four kittens, with no major difficulties, except that afterward she became nauseated from eating the placenta.  The vet said not to worry about it; that it wasn't necessary for her to eat it.  That's more about cleaning up than something the mother actually needs.

I made one major mistake; I gave her some milk, thinking that it might help her own milk to come in and supply some extra calcium.  Unfortunately, she liked the stuff, until she threw it up.  This is when I found out that most adult cats are lactose intolerant.

I hope it happens soon, and that all goes well, and am looking forward to lots of adorable kitten pictures.

Margret
