Yeah, but paying an arm and a leg for it there doesn't do any wonders for your finances.
this is exactly why i haven't been to see a movie in a movie theater since one of the Star Wars movies. the concessions stand prices, as well as the (high) cost of seeing movies in a movie theater.

these days, if you wait a bit, the movie will be available either on tv, or to watch/stream online -- or via hulu, netflix, or amazon instant video.

hmmm...i did see either Ted or Ted 2. if they're available via any of my streaming options, i'll check them out!
I'm pretty sure the first one is, not so sure about the second. I saw it at the theater, first time I've gone to one in 6 years. Fits in well with my crass, warped sense of humor. Both made me laugh right out loud quite hard several times each

That is exactly why I usually don't go. There are so many better options.

hmmm...the movie with Helen Hunt in it? i saw that one -- really good movie!

did you see the movie Ice Twisters? and there was one really really cool tv movie about an earthquake where at the end a strip of the California coast became separated, with part of the ocean between it and the rest of California. i want to say that was MegaFault, but can't be sure.
Yes, that is the one! I have to look up those other ones now, I don't think I've seen those specific ones (I think similar, but not the same name).

And in regards to going to the theater - I'll only go now to theaters that I can reserve a seat at and have a recliner :lol3: I also like to go to a theater in Addison, IL, that has lower prices than most of the theaters I've been to. It's a long drive, but sometimes I like to go for long drives :) There's also one in Buffalo Grove, kinda sorta old-timey (ha, 80s-like is old-timey now). It's not stadium style seating, and concession just has popcorn and candy (no pizza, the horror!), but it has first-run movies for a LOT less money. Less than half of that of regular theaters.

there's only one movie theater in the rochester, ny area that i know of that offers recliners. but then, i've lived 'in the sticks' for working on my fifth year, and there aren't any movie theaters in my general area.

i've got to wonder about the taste of pizza sold in movie theaters. reminds me of the train (Amtrak), and the horrible looking pizza (and other food items) sold in their snack cars. i always brought a pb&j sandwich with me when i took the train for the trip to visit my parents years ago; and i had a serving of nice hot homemade something (from my parents) to take with me for my trip back home.

I used to love to go to the movies. Now that I am older, and have the on demand feature on the cable, it has become maybe a once a year item.

The price of going to the movies, buying a buttered popcorn (a must) and a drink is outrageously expensive!

I also find that the older I am, the more other people "invade" my personal space!

I like to stretch out, be comfy and have it quiet when I am watching a movie. Some people are so inconsiderate.

Also, for some reason, the volume is so loud! I feel you do have to keep it at a certain sound level, but it just seems too loud at times for me.

At home, I can adjust the volume, up and down, replay what I may have missed, put it on pause when I have to do something, can get all comfy and warm in my 'hang around the house' clothes.

And the price is a lot less expensive.

Yes, you do miss the surround sound and surround movie experience but...

I guess to sum it up, I am just getting old!!!

I do have a few discounted tickets to use.

Agreed. The thing I hate the most about going out to the movies (other than the exorbiant cost) is how rde some people can be buy talking in a stage whisper while you are trying to watch a movie. And cell phones are the WORST!!! Is is such a hard thing to turn them off for 90 minutes? Everytime I've heard one during a movie, it made me wanna go up to the offending party, take that cell phone out of their hand and stick it in an inappropriate area located somewhere on their body. But I digress...

I feel the same way that you do. I don't go to the movies very often. When I do, I go to the latest showing possible. Often at 10:30 or 11 PM. DD and I have done this MANY times and I can't tell you how many times we've had the theater to ourselves. Occasionally, there's a few others but not often. I buy our tickets online in advance. It's nice when they have to show it just for you! Many times, we've been the last ones out of the theater with the exception of the employees.

We're night owls anyway so for us, why not go late? I hit Dollar Tree and grab snacks and drinks beforehand and we're good to go. I don't buy the popcorn at the theater. They reheat what they don't sell the night before the next day. Warm doesn't mean fresh. I also refuse to pay the ridiculous prices at the concession stand. Last Christmas day (2014), DD and I went to a late movie and we brought McNuggets in.

all very good points!
especially about being able to replay parts missed and putting the movies/tv shows on pause.

I don't know of any theater around here that will let you bring in your own food and drinks. There are signs and staff watching.

I watched Pride and Prejudice this weekend.  The Kiera Knightly version.

I'm not a big movie person; especially in movie theaters.  I like the freedom to be able to get up and move around or fast forward a part I don't like.  Or to discuss the movie as we are watching it.  I prefer my movies clean; so that cuts out a lot of what i'd watch anyway.
