I agree with above. Another dose of Benadryl, and weigh him to see that he's gaining. If not, supplementing is in order. Glad he is doing so well! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Ok great! I did give him another dose of Benadryl. I weighed him and he weighs the same 18 ounces. But he is nursing great, every time he's nursed so far today, he has nursed for 15 minutes up to an hour. And, tonight he decided to try soft cat food. He ate about a teaspoon of soft food mixed into a gloop with KMR. Not off the bowl, but off my fingers. Very active, playing and starting to run sometimes. He also had to have a mini-bath in the sink. He pooped all over himself and there was no way around a small bath. Tomorrow, I am going to pull out the small litter box for him and start training him to use it.

Yes he is! I can't get over how much better he is today compared to the past few days. The Benadryl really has helped him, so has getting plenty of food in him, and of course the antibiotic. I never knew they treated kittens that young with an antibiotic.

Yes, they do treat. And he should begin gaining weight in the next 24 hours now that he's eating so well. Sounds like he's on the mend for sure now! [emoji]128522[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji]

He will easily use the litter box, very low sided, only NON CLUMPING LITTER! He will eat some, they all do at this very early stage of box use, he can't have clumping until 7-8 weeks old :)

Sounds like he is coming along fantastic!

I hope we do have a gain for him when I weigh him next. The way he is eating, I will be surprised if he still weighs the same. He just finished nursing again, and this time he nursed for over an hour.

@catwoman707  I have one of the small kitten litter boxes that are about 2 inches deep. Easy for kittens to get in and out of. He has also been climbing into the bigger litter box that is in my bedroom. He explored the box, but did not go potty.

Lol I spoke too soon! He is nursing more on Mama. Great to see!

Can't wait to hear how much his weight is today! Encourage him to use the small litter box by putting him in it several times a day, especially after naps and meals. Take a little paw and gently show him how to dig. He'll be a pro in no time!

Ok I weighted him and he still weighs 14 ounces. I actually weighed him a bit earlier timewise, than I did yesterday. What should I do? He is nursing great on Mama but with no weight gain should I also supplement him? Or give it another day as he has been sick? I am perplexed here. I really thought he would have gained at little at least. He is playing and active but needs to be gaining. So not sure what to do???

If he has not gained by tomorrow begin to supplement him again. Is he still eating some mushy wet food?

Ok if he hasn't gained tomorrow, I will do that. So far no. It was turkey he tasted it and didn't like turkey. Will do fish later as he loved it.

I actually did supplement him. Mama got up, but he still wanted to nurse. In addition to nursing for 15 mins, he ate almost 5 ml of kmr.

Sounds like he needs it. I'd keep it up every couple of hours then, like before. He needs to start gaining!

Ok question, in view of the fact that he is nursing, how much kmr should he get?

I keep bringing up to use your scale to determine the amt.

It's not easy to gauge an exact amt since he is also nursing, the thing you want to achieve is weight gain daily.

If he were nursing only and in a normal situation, he would gain every day.

This baby for some reason is not getting what he needs from nursing only, so basically I would offer him some every few hours and see what he will take.

He will eat enough to gain, but if you are monitoring his weight daily, and he didn't gain at all or maybe gained just a few grams, then push a little more to get more in to him.

Once you achieve one day of good gain, then you know it takes that amt that he had the day before to achieve this.

You see what I mean?

At 18 ounces of weight, he needs 144 mL's of milk per day. Every 3 hours means 18 mL's eight times each 24-hour period. He's nursing from mom too, but clearly not getting enough.

Let's say he gets 10 mL from mom at a feeding, and you give him 5, he's short 3 mL that he needs in order to actually gain and grow. He's maintaining, but not gaining. Something like this is happening. You've got to get more into him, and when he starts gaining, let that be your minimum amount per feeding and per day.

All this will become less important when he begins eating solids. When is he done with his meds?
