Hey everybody,

Just thought I'd point out that I DO have an appointment for my sister's cat already, but as you can tell in the photos I'm adding, whatever's going on is pretty bad.

Astro only joined her house recently and shortly after his lips started to swell and a kind of black, scaly texture started to appear under his chin. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction, but it's started to spread t the other cat she has who has never displayed any of these symptoms before so I have no idea what's going on.

I'm of course curious to see what you all think, but mainly right now I'm trying to find him some relief until the vet appointment. He still plays regularly, breathes fine and all that, he just scratches at his face a lot. So would it be okay to use neosporin? Or would hydrogen peroxide be a good idea? Or anything that has some soothing aloe or something of the sort?

Thanks for reading and hope to hear form you soon!

It could be chin acne that's gotten out of control.  If you don't use stainless steel or ceramic bowls, try switching.  Also, be sure you clean them after each feeding.   It's also possible that it's rodent ulcers, which aren't caused by rodents at all.  As for what to do for them right now, I'd just leave them alone.

Here's some threads on rodent ulcers.

I agree with @stephanietx. Keep in mind that acne is bacterial infection so can be contagious.

Please let us know what the vet said and good luck!
