Hello! A coworker who lives on a farm told me about a 9 week old kitten he had that he accidentally ran over with his car TWO FULL weeks prior... He said he didn't think he was going to make it before but now the kitten was active again... I immediately went and picked him up.. His name is Felix.. Felix walks around just fine.. I was shocked to meet him but when I felt his hips I could tell they were not right and his tail hung limply at his side.. I took him to the vet and they confirmed his pelvic bone was broken cleanly in three places and there was damage to his sacrum.. The question I have is about his urine and fecal incontinence.. They said there was a good chance this would go away as he healed and got bigger but there is also a real chance it won't... Opinions on this? Is only been a day since he went to the vet and this morning he went into his litterbox specifically to per AND managed to have a little come out! That had to be encouraging right? I'm still trying to get the hang of expressing him but don't want him to have reduced quality of life Yada Yada... Don't want him to sit around all the time needing to pee either... Anyway thoughts? Comments? Is there resources to safe cat diapers?

Hey Kitkat, I think it's great you went over to your coworker's and took the little guy to the vet right away.
There ARE kitty diapers out there, and when I searched online this site came up: http://lifewithchcats.com/2011/10/17/should-your-special-needs-cat-wear-a-diaper/ She's got cats with CH and has some tips on sizing diapers and fitting human diapers... I think the main issue would be that you're constantly having to change them, then clean the cat up afterwards (I would assume.) There might be other options though, like using puppy pads near the litterbox (or in places where he ends up going frequently). I saw this a post by Betsygee on this thread (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/288346/have-anyone-ever-tried-diapers-on-a-cat) saying she was sort of able to train her cat to go on the pads. Beyond that, I'm not sure. Just wanted to let you know it's possible if it turns out he is incontinent. Hopefully someone else can chime in soon...

Thanks he has come such such a long way he is such a fighter we can't bare to see him lose now, my sister is home a lot and has opened her heart to try saving him but I know she is scared and overwhelmed. Just need to hear similar stories and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh, man. How can anyone know they ran OVER a kitten and not take IMMEDIATE action? Please feel free to feed this coworker an Alpo sandwich. Or two. Smh...

Well, I don't have any experience with such injured kittens, sorry. But you can do your best. My guess is he will get some function back, but may always have some issue. The pee worries me. Is he at higher risk of stones or uti than most cats? That's what would concern me.

I've heard of people fixing up doll clothes with cat diapers, but I've never done it myself. Is the problem that he dribbles, or can he only pee/poop with pressure exerted?

Poor guy. What did the vet do for his broken hip? I'm still mad at your coworker. Thank god you took this kitten.

That's tough. :( But I'm encouraged that your vet said there's a good chance he'll recover. I would hold onto that, because I think that's big.

Good point, Misterwhiskers about the increased risk of UTI... Maybe asking your vet?

Poor little guy... :(
