What terrific news!

I love that Polka is reaching out to welcome her.  Did the vet say how far along Chanel is?

Your house must be a riot with those kittens tearing about on all the kitty furniture.
Such fun to watch kitten zoomies.   It's hard knowing they will be leaving for their new homes so soon too though.

Try to remind your self that Chanel's kittens could have health issues from in-breeding even if she is able to give birth fine and having a healthy and calm time towards the end of her pregnancy.  It would be wonderful if they were all OK but stay a little prepared for her.  I wonder if Polka will mother and help Chanel too?  It wouldn't surprise me.

misterwhiskers misterwhiskers she could have something like cerebral palsy but it would be very mild. I left a message with the humane society that covers the county we got her from. They are closed Monday's so I left a message. Figured if I don't hear back by Wednesday morning, I'll contact regular old animal control.
handsome kitty handsome kitty he said she's probably got 2-3 weeks to go but possibly less because the kittens growth may be stunted, making her farther along than what she feels like.
mservant mservant I'm prepared for the fact that all may live, or die. Even if some of them live, it will probably be a really rough start. I'm hoping for the best and thinking optimistically but no amount of good care can change these kittens genes.

This is a fantastic report! :)

I want to echo what mservant mservant said about the possibility of Chanel's babies being "slow" like she is. They may or may not be, but if she's fairly advanced in her pregnancy then some significant development has already taken place. It's wise to be prepared.

How much did Chanel weigh at the vet today?

She will feel so much better without fleas biting her and worms detracting from her nutrients.

It sounds like over the coming days she will acclimate and fit right in :).

Are you still planning to keep a couple of Polka's babies?

We are keeping one of polkas babies. Polka has more or less picked her. They are inseparable. It's Mona Lisa. You won't believe It but Chanel weighed 7 pounds! 2 pounds heavier than I thought. Still small but vet said she has a very lanky build so her weight wasn't as horrible as we were originally expecting.

I'm sure the umpteen cans of cat food she has scarfed down in the last few days have helped - and a lack of stress in her new life!

I'm glad to hear she weighs seven pounds. I doubt she did when you picked her up.

Mona Lisa! How sweet! It's interesting how cats pick their favorites. Mine has two favorites out of her four.

I think she favored Mona Lisa from the start. Mona was small and spunky and she immediately attached herself to her. After everything she went through for these babies, she deserves to have her favorite baby with her.

That's the scariest yawn I have ever seen.
Awww, sweet baby, looks like she's going to sleep with her food so no one else can steal it!
Her yawn is something else, LoL.  Her mouth is bigger than she is.   Nice to see those healthy looking fangs of course, she must like showing them off.

Lovely to hear Polka has chosen which of the kittens you will keep.  Somehow I was thinking she would be lonely when they all left even though I know there is loads of other companionship for her in your home.

Just catching up on this thread.  Chanel is so lucky that you rescued her.  Glad she had a good vet visit as well.   Hopefully her pregnancy / delivery will be smooth and the babies will be healthy.

So interesting that your home is so animal friendly.  There is so much written about how to introduce a new cat to others and sometimes it takes weeks or months for the cats to tolerate each other, and Polka (a newbie herself) welcomed Chanel right away.

Little suggestion... wonder if you should start a new thread for Chanel in either the Pregnant Cats forum or the the Caring for Strays/Ferals forum, so that members/lurkers who haven't followed Polka's story (this now fairly long thread) might see a new thread and start reading it.

Either way, I love reading about your rescue kitties, and hope you'll have time to keep posting on this site, once you get your own rescue group up and running.

And good luck with all the critters, current and future!

That's the scariest yawn I have ever seen.
You perhaps know, yawning with cats its really not being sleepy, but most often its greetings to friends.  Or lying down, streching forward a foreleg.

Standing up, they greet friends by streching, forward or backward.

This is not widely known, I havent seen it even mentioned in books on cat behavior.

But once I noticed it on my residents,  I see it confirmed the whole time...

I am wrong. There is no way the Polka/Chanel saga should be separated into 2 different threads. I took one like at this picture of Polka, Chanel and Polka's kittens, and can clearly see these cats are a FAMILY!. Please do not separate your threads on these 2 fine cats Sweetlynn86.

What's so wonderful here is that Chanel can now learn how to be a proper mommy from a happy mommy cat. I bet there were a lot of stressed out mama and babies at Chanel's first place. It's so cool to see Polka taking her under her wing!!! Do you know how much farther she has to go yet?

Chanel must feel so happy to be back in kitty company after that time on her own - she can't have been used to no other cats given her previous living conditions, and what could be more lovely than to be welcomed in to such a happy, healthy little family with such a natural mother at the helm?   That photo is beautiful:   I have one question.   What is the seriously fluffy bit of fur on the floor in front of Polka @sweetlynn86  ?   It looks too small to be one of the kittens, or is it?
