My cats have a patio. They aren't out in the sun. He has never had issues with the heat once I started clipping him. Some people may disagree but I think my cat is cooler without long hair. I'm sure that could be tested by taking a rectal temperature, if people really wanted to know if coat length affects temperature.

I wonder if your cat would benefit from a laxative. The only time I find pebbles outside the box is if my cats are constipated. Even my long haired cat has not had that problem. I would be concerned about gi problems. Not normal to have fecal matter in their hair! Or is she having soft stools?
Bab is fed entirely wet food--Royal Canin urinary SO because of stones. I mix in a small amount of pumpkin with her food twice a month.. So her stool is pretty soft. She likes to shoot out of her litter boxes like a tiny, orange rocket before she's entirely finished, however..

Well quick update...
Bab managed to get her collar off today and tore out all the staples.. Yay. Once I inspected the damage, I sprayed it down with bactine again and tightened the collar (I think being able to fit 2 fingers in is the standard). It definitely looks red, but she's been messing with it all day probably.

Another trip to the vet tomorrow or see it it improves by Saturday?
OH dear. I clicked on your picture to enlarge it and get a better look. Goodness - that really is an awful gash and much larger than I thought it was. Poor baby and poor momma. I am so sorry about this now that I see it more closely. It does not look great at the moment probably due to her licking. I would not wait and see if you can take her back in tomorrow. They should cover all costs. I feel so bad seeing how it is not healing as of yet. Gosh - I feel bad now as it looks much deeper than I thought. Just sorry for your kitty and having to deal with this. Keep us posted and all my best. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yeah it's pretty bad. I think I'm gonna take the advice to grab some bandages and gauze to cover the wound until I can (hopefully) take her when I leave work tomorrow.

i'm sorry. she's not going to like it. after all, she tore the staples out. but it's protecting the wound until you can get her to the vet, and that's what matters. you did a good job.
She seems not to mind now.. She's back to playing. I wish I could keep her still, but she's only 3 and wants to get into everything :(

Looks like you did a great job with the vet wrap. This will help so much until you can get Bab back in for the vet to look at it. Honestly, I think that groomer should be calling you to apologize and show some compassion for you and Bab. I hope your vet agrees. In all of my years of grooming, I have not seen a gash quite so deep from clippers and after taking a good look, much closer look, as I said above it makes me feel very bad for Bab and for you. It was a very good thing, too, that your vet put Bab on antibiotics. :vibes: :vibes::vibes::vibes: Keep us posted!

Might be a good idea to find another groomer.
Even if she was "reprimanded" i wouldnt risk my cat there. She should have been fired for injuring an animal. and not being honest about it. It would have been different had it been an accident, and she told you when you picked her up. It bugs me that she said nothing.
Terestrife is sooooo right here! I'd be so mad at my vet for allowing this groomer to gash my cat in such a way that A.) causes serious  pain, B.) have to come in and subject my cat to further pain by having staples put in and C.) for just "pooh pooh-ing" it by saying they will reprimand the groomer!
I also am bothered by this and think a responsible groomer should have said something when you came in to pick up your baby, accident or not! It's a good thing your vet didn't charge you for the follow up treatment or I'd be saying get another vet too! My "Jersey side wants to "flip a table" for you!!
If this groomer has a site where you can leave a review, I'd certainly be giving a "less than stellar" one!!

I agree that is a nasty gash. I've been clipping my pets for years. I've never drawn blood! Not even when my cat squirms.

Hey all, I've been reading everyone's comments and just wanted to update u with what I can.. We are back @ the vet now w/the feline specialist. The wound IS open, but it is closing up. Putting that bandage on really helped to bring the swelling down.

Right now, the vet says to stick with the cone/bandage combo & to check back w/them in a week.

...I also saw the groomer at the front desk and she said absolutely nothing to me.

Trying to get a non-potato quality pic of the wound today.

Edit: I guess I put the vet wrap on too tight :( no paw-swelling or loss of circulation, but still. We are leaving now w/a new wrap. No charge again, but we are looking better

Edit #2: it's a good thing the vet said it would be ok for it to be exposed to open air at this point, too.. because just her moving around knocks off the bandages (now that i have to make them loose enough to fit a finger under). it's a tricky spot to have a wound..right under her arm & extending a little to the joint.

I JUST went through this same scenario last month and my little guy is still healing. He licked the shaved area into a massive "hot spot".  I had to take him to the vet where they had me collar Trooper for weeks until the wound began to heal.  I applied XV olive oil & E-oils to the sore area to keep the skin soft and then started using Coloidal Silver upon recommendation.  The area has healed nicely.  I will go to the vet from now on for dematting.

Bactine is toxic to cats.  Neosporin is not much better, but cats frequently lick themselves so best to avoid ANY topical meds not rated for cats.  Trooper wore an inflatable donut collar  and had to be transferred to a standard E-collar because he kept taking it off & would immediately start licking the wound.

.
SHAME on her then. :nono: I hope you let the vet know about her ignoring you at the front desk. VERY uncompassionate and callous.

I hope that soon, very soon, Bab will be completely healed. My thoughts are with you both! :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

p.s. Colloidal Silver is something to ask the vet about applying too. I have used it for many a wound on my pets and it is very safe and helpful to use. I have this one on hand:
