OH gosh I get that all the time, it's all in fun though.  For ten years I wouldn't get a cat because I was traveling all the time.  Then I stopped traveling and a stray had kittens next to my house.  She ran away (thank god we didn't trap her because she had two more stashed in another location) and I took the three of them into the house because it was over 90 degrees out .  Anyway, they were two days old and I started reading on the internet, had no idea what I was getting into.  I'm one of those never lonely when alone persons, but they have added such joy to my life.  As have their cat parents, the two strays who I trapped and then had fixed and then somehow never made it back out of my house.

Since this happened I have thought a lot about what makes cats so special.  I don't think there's the equivalent of the cat site for dog people is there?  In the Paw Project the vet talks about how cats are such amazing animals because they know what they want.  I think that's a lot of it, that feeling that you are interacting with another consciousness.

Anyway, you are nowhere near crazy cat lady.  After I got the kittens a woman came over to my desk and announced she had 19 cats!  I really can't imagine.

P. S. I also never felt rich before, but I do now because I can afford their food and medical care without a struggle.  That said, I do have insurance!!!!  which I recommend highly - $10 bucks a month for a policy with a $1,000 deductible.  Already has paid for itself.  If you have cats and can possibly swing it, get insurance!  It tears me apart reading all the posts on here for people who can't afford to go to a vet.

This is one of those topics where clearly, people don't look down on dogs. I have noticed anyone with more than say 2 or 3 cats is considered "Crazy cat person". Yet, let somebody have 12 dogs- and nope, they aren't crazy. And also, on those "animal hoarders" shows, they seem to only show people with cats, not dogs!!

What insurance company do you have for cats? I would definitely be interested!

That is a beautiful photo of Xena. It looks like she had a professional photo shoot! :D
Thanks! She was actually posing on my printer next to desk so white wall and printer made perfect setting. The picture didn't do it justice, here the original

I'm just curious. How many cats do you think someone has to have to officially be called a crazy cat lady? Some people already consider me to be one because I have no children and dote on and obsess about my TWO cats. One of my coworkers told me that if you have more than four cats, you are officially crazy. I think you may be a little nutty when your number of cats reaches the double digits. What do you guys think?

I have cat items but they were given to me by friends.  Do you think they were trying to tell me something?  Six inside and 6 tnr's outside.

I ran across this on Facebook the other day:

"I'd rather be thought crazy than see any animal come to harm."

That says it all for me, my husband and our eight cats!
I just love this. I feel the same way. I feed two ferals that live behind a store nearby. Every morning 9 am sharp. Friday I had to have a skin treatment due to pre-cancer. I could not go out in the light for 2 days. I made sure to get up at 4 am to go feed them. I know some friends thought I was nuts.

I have two inside/outside cats. They mostly stay inside. They use a litter box and sleep with me. They are brother and sister. Their names are Jack and Jill.

I have 9 ferals that live on my porch and I love them too. They all have names .They are all fixed. I had to trap them for that. They all have their own cat houses

that I made for them and I bought a thermostatically controlled water bowl for them so they always have water. They know their names and I have been taking

care of them for 4 years. They know Jack and Jill are my house cats and always give them respect. I have had two liters from Baby but since then she has been

fixed. Two survived and they are part of the colony. Three have died and that was sad but they have since been replaced with new ones. I have three that will

soon join the family when they get accepted. So, soon my cat colony will grow to 12. I feed the three when I see them but they are still too nervous to join the others.

That's how they all come to me, starving and afraid. The question was how many cats make me crazy? Well, if you ask my neighbors they will tell you that I am the

crazy cat lady. Maybe,I am but I won't refuse an animal if they need me. An acquaintance told me that I didn't need all these cats. I replied, I know, I don't need

them, but, they need me.

Cat horders are crazy cat ladies. We aren't.

Our cats are well taken care of. I hate the term crazy cat lady. I know people who have multiple dogs but no one calls them crazy. The world would be a better place if everyone had at least one cat IMO. They make you a better person.

Can we really define ourselfs to be or not to be 'crazy'?

Isn't it world outside of us that defines if we are crazy?

I prefer being crazy over ignorant or greed, if I spot cat in distress certainly I help one, it is only logical thing to do, but sometimes society defines normal which actually feels more crazy to me, like for example putting pets sleep just because it is 'easier' and that is considered normal by large majority which forms society or world around us.

Sometimes Heyoka has more sense than the normal world around him, which is then crazy? Is world crazy thinking they are normal when their action makes no sense?

I think that sometimes crazy can be more sensible than norm, but as majority defines norm and crazy acts differently from the norm, crazy is still crazy, however sometimes crazy is good and better than the norm.

So I'm happily crazy if world around me likes to define me as crazy, when I help every cat that needs help, instead of putting them to sleep because it is easier and the norm.

I agree but not 20 or more in the house and not looked after. You hear about the animal people having to go and rescue all these cats living in disgusting conditions with a supposed cat lover.

Agreed. At least one but not more than you can take care of properly. That's for sure.

the most I've had in one go was 3 and I managed very well with them and then I had 2 and a large dog who arrived as an abandoned puppy age 6 weeks so he didn't know what cats were. Once I let him lose he ran to my lotto and they rubbed noses and then to my gentle - a massive misnomer -
