I did do 40 minutes of bicycling so got 1h and 40min worth of sweat out today, tomorrow there will be lot of snow needing to be moved again, so I'm burning calories quite well this week it seems :)

I did 12.5 mins of hiit cardio, 50 sit-ups and then went for a nice walk today. I'm doing cardio now until the 19th of Jan.
Keep going everybody.

My biggest problem with walking outside is getting all the clothes on to walk. Long underwear, pants, top, scarf, ear muffs, gloves, snow sneakers, Yak Trax, etc. It takes for ever to get dressed for walking and then undressed afterwards.

I have the same kind of problem. I like to combine walking with teaching and other errands I have to run. Today, for instance, I had a student who lives walking distance from my house. I got the bus down, so I didn't look too windblown when I arrived, then walked back. But what shoes to wear? Business shoes are no good for walking in and I look kind of odd turning up in my hiking boots. I wish it was summer so I could wear sandals and paint my toenails again.

90 minutes walking today, the last 30 minutes was uphill carrying a big bag of groceries.

3 miles on the treadmill this morning.

We are in the midst of that really cold stuff, so I don't know if I'll get out today over lunch. Thankfully the wind seems to have calmed down and the temp is right around 5 F; wind chill is about -2. If it stays like that with little wind, I may try it. But if it gets really windy again, all bets are off.

2.5 miles walking during lunch. It really wasn't bad.

t-shirt, thin wool shirt and fleece pants, then I take my jump suit that has winter padding, if it is really cold I put thin jacket on top of that.

Technical wool socks and traditional wool socks on top of those.

Ski beanie mask thing it best invention there is, it keeps my face and nose from freezing.

I have aluminum insulation things inside my shoe, I don't know name of those, they are thin and shaped like foot and you put them into bottom of your shoe, cures freezing toe issues well.

Usually I have more issues with being too warm.

For example today, I moved snow for 4 hours, it was just below freezing and clearly just a jump suit with t-shirt would of been enough, but I had this wool shirt and fleece pants, I did sweat a lot, so much that every peace of clothing was soaking wet.

Also as it was so 'warm' I chose to wear my forest boots, they have chainsaw protection and they weight more than 6 pounds, but no slipping because of studs at bottom and feet stay relatively dry.

Also I spot fox tracks running right past the yard, so I followed those trough the forest and into another forest, there was deep snow at places, quite bit higher than my knee, so that was quite nice workout too, also it was nice to notice that thanks to regular workouts I have the strength and endurance to keep going on that deep snow many times longer than two years ago.

I want to test skiing in deep snow tomorrow, maybe that will work lot better now as I'm in better shape. Must take camera with me so I can put some pics up.

20 mins cardio for me today. I did 1/4 oval sprints and 1/2 oval jogs. Do I dare say I wore shorts and a singlet? Although it's summer we aren't having brilliant summer weather but I am sooo glad that it's not snowing so I am not complaining at all - not one bit.
Keep going everybody.

sounds like the garmin vivofit is a great gift Abbysmom, ! let us know how you like it or if you don't as you go cuz i'm trying to decide between garmin, fitbit and nike ones. positives and negatives on all of them.
Jury is still out. Garmin had 3-4 days where the Connect app wasn't working, so that made it more difficult. They seem to be on track now. I don't thin the step count is accurate, but you can measure your step length and input and I will do that but woudl like to have my husband watch to make sure I am being accurate about it.

[quote name="catlove15"]

i'm new to the thread so hi all ! been reading it since i joined here last year and it's motivational, at least i felt great for you guys. now that it's the new year so far i dug out a parking lot for myself on my front lawn rather than my driveway, long story to that, which was a great workout. and it wasn't that cold which helped and the snow wasn't too heavy.
as far as walking my dogs every day, not yet cuz the weather turned all blizzardy here for a few days so they're still at the kennel where they can get lots of exercise. and when the blizzard gets better, we are going for walks in the snow, whether it's warm or 0 F. at least for a short walk. :)
i'm looking to lose a lot of weight. lost about 25 lbs a few years ago and kept it off for a couple of years but then gained it back last year so rather annoyed about that but am starting again. so i'll keep you up to date. so far about 3 lbs since last year. :) slow is fine as long as i either maintain or go down.
anyway, i'm babbling. keep up the excellent exercise and motivation guys and may we all lose if we need it and get healthier this year. or maintain. it's all good. :D

Babble away! :lol3: We don't mind that. Have you seen the weight loss thread?

Good for all of you being out in the cold. It's just too much here right now. I couldn't possibly handle it. Even Aaron has been telling me to stay in. I walked about 4 miles on Tuesday until the snow covered up the ice and I slipped and fell. No damage other than my pride. :lol3: I really need to get on the exercise bike, but haven't. The asthma has been acting up the past few days since I've been taking Christmas things down. I've been trying to keep moving around the house.

I visited in drug store some days ago, I probably got from there a nasty flu, today I have not been able to be awake very much, so no skiing today.

3 miles walking during lunch. It's nasty out there. It was snowing and the wind was blowing. I hate winter.

It's cold here but absolutely beautiful weather. We haven't had any snow for a week and the sky is so blue.

I managed one hour of yoga and a 90 minute walk yesterday. (60 minutes uphill then 30 minutes back down again)

I saw a tanuki while I was out on my walk, so cute!

@JTbo  I hear these are common in Finland too. What do you call them?

Years ago I got Nintendo Wii with balance board and I did attempt that Yoga in Wii Fit, it was really hard! Maybe because I'm as flexible as an iron bar :D

I think that Tanuki is bit different than our Supikoira (Nyctereutes procyonoides), Tanuki is called Japanin Supikoira here. Our Supikoira is having winter sleep currently so it is very rarely seen until 1-2 months from now when their hibernation cycle ends.

I guess Tanuki there is somewhat used to people?

Last night fever got up to 42C, it was really hard to get even door opened, but I needed to cool down temperature to lower my body temperature so I put snow into my head, horrible cold, but brain works better.

Yes, Japanese tanuki don't run away from people unless you make a noise or run towards them. They usually just sit there and watch you walk past. They don't seem to hibernate, last winter a few came down to share food with the feral cats. I thought cat food wasn't good for them, so I left out a bowl of nuts and vegetables. They loved that

That sounds like a horrible case of the 'flu. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Had to work all day so just 30 minutes of yoga today.

One of my sisters found a way to exercise only 20mins two times a week with incredible results. She mostly does heavy weights in form of squats and has worked up to 160 pounds. Squats apparently engage many muscles and the heavier you go the less you have to do. So I am starting too with some push ups. I have to have something that is simple easy and doesn't take me away from my kitties I already spend too much time away from.

I did 10 reps each of burpees, shoulder touch push ups, squat thrusts and prisoner lunges for a total of 10 mins. Then I did 50 sit ups and finished with 5 mins of burpees (75).

Good work everybody

It's what happens if you do yoga inverted poses right after you eat. :)
Oh no it can't be, because according to Wikipedia it is exercise that makes your vision goes black and you find yourself on the ground after vision comes back with several new pains in your body, inverted poses of course have undesired effects done after eating well as you say, but they don't make vision go black, still several new pains in body is guaranteed :D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burpee_(exercise)

I think that all who really can do Yoga are superhumans, but maybe it is just that I was born with conditions that cause clumsiness and balance issues, I guess also being heavy build means there is less flexibility.

Burpees is also one thing I can't do, same goes for squats, I need to hold on to something because I get so dizzy and loose vision if I get up too fast, even blood pressure should be ok.

However I did one leg squats having support from wall and table so I did not fall down, it was still bit of challenge with balancing, but I got top score according to chart that was used to evaluate performance, that was during the summer though so I don't remember exact number, it was over 40 though.
