Recently one of my family's cats went to the vet and we got rabies and feline distemper shots.  I'm fine with the rabies shot because it is the law where we live.  But I was wondering what is your opinion of feline distemper vaccines?  I've read that it can be a very serious disease but I don't think my family's 3 cats would be at risk as indoor only kitties.  I have read that it can be contracted from fleas and we don't use any anti-flea treatments but we are open to using an anti-flea product.  And I did see somewhere that said the disease can be tracked inside by our shoes, so is that a major issue?  Vaccines make me nervous because I've heard of injection site sarcomas and our vet gives the booster every year. But I've heard some organizations recommend only vaccinating for that every 3 years.

It's the best vet in town, the only one near us that specializes in just cats and she worked very hard with us to help find out why one of our cats was constantly sneezing so I do think she is using her best judgment.  But as a knowledgeable cat owner I'd love to hear what guys do about feline distemper vaccinations.

The current recommendation for low risk cats is every 3 years for the distemper shot.  It is true that we can track it in on our shoes.  Feline distemper is a misnomer, it is actually closely related to canine parvo.  Kittens are at most risk and young kittens usually don't survive.  Most adult cats have at least partial immunity which means if they catch it they have much milder symptoms and some have no symptoms.
