My 6 month old furbaby decided one day this week that he wasn't in the mood to eat his NI Variety Instinct chicken.   Actually he did eat it in the morning but mid afternoon when it was time for his next meal he sniffed and walked away.   He's not free fed so its unusual for him to walk away from his food.

So after a few hours I ended up throwing that meal away and tried again later in the afternoon when it was time for his next meal.  Again sniffed and walked away.   I left it there for hours but he never ate any of it.

By late evening I gave in and opened a can of something else (Natural Choice chicken) since he hadn't eaten since morning.   He gobbled up the NC chicken.  I swear this food is kitty crack for my cat and not the Fancy Feast.

So the next morning I tried the NI Variety chicken again and I was happy to see he gobbled it all up.    Fed him the whole 5.5 oz can the entire day and he ate each meal.

I'm just curious if others kitties have done this.  Refuse to eat a certain brand one day but eat it the next?  I'm just happy he ate it since I like the brand and I had already ordered a whole case

My cats are extremely finicky with wet food .. They do not like much but at least they were eating Fancy Feast and just recently refused to eat it at all  . So currently they are not eating wet food ..

They are also picky with kibble .. There is one brand they never ever refuse though , Royal Canin Special 33 ...

Which is what they are eating now .. My female was eating barely anything for 2 days except Temptations Treats .

I got the RC and she ate  1/4 cup in one feeding .. They are such brats ....

Thank goodness my cats aren't THAT picky! I guess I go by if they get hungry enough they WILL eat. I have had them refuse to eat something, but I've got enough starving outside cats to take care of that. Sometimes they will sniff it and try to bury it! I still can't get them to eat canned food, although I offer it every morning, they just lick the gravy. My poor feral, Russell, has no idea that cat food comes with gravy!

My cat does this too with her raw food. It's tough to get her to eat sometimes and it almost always takes persistence. For me I take the food away after about thirty min so I can refrigerate it again. I also sprinkle some of her favorite treats on there to entice her. But sometimes, like this morning, she wouldn't eat her fav meal and insisted on chicken and beef, which she ate a lot of. Variety is the spice of life.

Yes, our cats can be like that, too: they're especially picky about Nature's Variety Instinct but I've found that they'll happily eat it if I mix in a little freeze-dried raw food with extra water.

And I couldn't agree more about Nutro Natural Choice being more like kitty crack than Fancy Feast! I only feed it before bed -- it's ideal night food because it's caloric and holds them for the night, plus I'm always sure they'll eat it. It's probably their favorite canned food.

Uff, I think I'd go into a panic if mine did this this but he's still a kitten.     My late cat would only eat treats at one point but that is when he was really sick.

It really is. My kitty just  gobbles up the chicken or the turkey loafs.   The smell is so strong but its one of the few brands where the smell is actually decent to me.

Yes , I was  worried  but she was eating something so that told she was ok just being stubborn .. I ran right out and bought the Royal Canin and she ate 1/4 cup  all at once .. Ever since she has been fine , eating  1/4 cup twice a day ..  My cats do not like wet/can food and they will not eat it ..

I cannot force my cats to eat something they do not like even if it should be better for them ..

If they want RC kibble that is what they will get ..

mine do this from time to time. They did it just Tuesday as a matter of fact. I have a pretty good variety of foods in their rotation and try to never give them the same food two meals in a row. On Tuesday, they ate a little breakfast but not much. they did the same at dinner. Wednesday morning at breakfast time, I brought out something different. Whiskas Purrfectly Chicken pouches. They look similar to Weruva in texture. Not the best food, but not bad. I bought it during their first hunger strike and never used any of it. They gobbled it up. So for dinner I gave them some Weruva Cats in the Kitchen chicken frick a zee. They ate it up. This morning I grabbed two cans out of the rotation ( I often take 2 different kinds and give each cat half of each can) and they went back to eating normally and still are. they just get fussy sometimes.

My kitty does the same with NV instinct canned chicken and duck. She would rather starve.
mine won't eat NVI by itself. it has to be mixed or topped with something else like one of the Nutro Natural Choice minced/sliced varieties.

My cat Squeek is so bad...You guys should see my storage closet - stuffed to the gills with cat food that he may or may not eat that day. Fingers crossed, we're doing well this week with Science Diet Oral Care and Heinz Strained Chicken, but you never know...I'd love to know what gets in his head...

I hear ya , my cats are super finicky . When I find one brand they really love I have to stay with it . They hate change .. They also are not crazy about wet food ..

Right now they are eating a mix of Royal Canin Special 33 &  Royal Canin Light 40  , eventually just the RC  Light 40  .. I did finally find a wet they will eat ( AGAI N )..

For now they love the Fancy Feast Mornings Chicken & Veggies in Egg Sauce .. I know , not the best but when it is the only wet food they will eat it will have to do ..

They also love their Drinkwell Platinum Fountain and drink a  lot from that ..

Once my cats like a food they continually eat it with gusto. I rotate daily so they never seem bored. If the fussy girl turns her nose up, it goes to the boy who eats everything. Of course they get 2 meals a day and no dry so they are ravenous at mealtime. Of course their favorites are the most expensive, my dogs too. I basically work to feed them all! Gave Lokhi Wellness Divine Duo's this morning for the first time and he wasn't a fan.    Luckily I only bought 2 to try out but seems its a no go with him.   He's eaten other Wellness so figured he might like it but surprisingly he sniffed and wanted something else.

Wow that's surprising. Did you try turkey or duck? My 2 love the chicken and turkey or chicken and duck! They hate red meat and fish!

I tried the chicken and duck.  I was surprised he didn't eat it because he's not usually a picky cat.  The only other food he's ever turned away from was Hounds & Gatos.

When I first switched to all canned, I bought 2 small cans of several good quality brands. I noted which were a hit and what cat liked what. The ones no one liked I never tried again. The ones they seemed to like I bought again (2 or 3 cans). If they were still a hit I ordered a case from chewy.com. We all know cats can [emoji]10084[/emoji]️ something the first time then walk away [emoji]128062[/emoji][emoji]128062[/emoji][emoji]128062[/emoji] the second time!
