Do your cat names have themes?

I've heard of people making their cats after literary cats, or authors. My best friend named all four of her cats after foods (the fat lazy orange one is Spam, the stupid cute kitten-like one is Yolk, one is Peeps, and the last one is Peanuts).

I did it too, with famous mathematicians (I have a thing for math, lol). Pythagoras (Pi for short) and Fibonacci (Chi for short) had a litter of kittens named Apollonius, Ptolemy, Archimedes, and Thales.
What names do you come up with for your kitties? Any reason you choose them? Or did you just keep the name they came with?

The mathematician names are so cute! I like unique and relatively uncommon names like that - no offense to the people who like the classic "Fluffy" and "Mittens" or "Boots" types of names, but it doesn't seem to have that little *oomph* when it comes to personality.

A friend had a stray follow her home about a decade back and she later wound up pregnant. Her mom named the cat Baby, and then friend named all the kittens after food: Cinnamon, Peanut, Butter (the runt, my favourite. We called him Mr. Butter), Chocolate. Their own past cats were named Mickey and Minnie, obvious theme there.

Mo was named by my predecessor, but my boyfriend and I tossed up a bunch of names for Kismet. We were looking at the less common mythological gods or goddesses since we weren't sure if we were going to adopt a male or female. We got to a point where we weren't sure if we wanted something just plain cute, or something fancy. By the end, we were tossing up Kismet, Gidget, or Pixel (we went through so many names, I don't even remember any of them - we looked at European and African-based names, and they were such long lists!). For a male, we were thinking Ren/Wren. We joked that with each new pet we got, we'd name them after one of a group of comedic acts (only Mo out of Moe, Curly, and Larry; only Ren out of Ren and Stimpy).

The foster home named all of Kismet's family of kittens after the Asterix comic and themed them with -ix suffixes: Obelix, Asterix, Dogmatix (Kismet), Pacifix, Atlantix, and Cacofonix.

Yes!  My girls were named after Charmed sisters- Piper, Phoebe, and Paige.... And, when I fostered King Arthur and Morgan La Fay's mother, I picked out all King Arthur's court names for them.  And Tyrion Lannister from the books and TV series Game of Thrones.

@pinkdagger those are all really interesting names/name groups! I especially like the ideas you two came up with for Kismet!

And @P3 and The King, I especially like the Charmed sisters idea. Did the cats fit the profile too? It would be neat if they did!

My Fibonacci is terribly clever, so I think hers is appropriate. She can open doors and locks and change radio stations if it doesn't suit her, and unplugs appliances she doesn't want to make noise (I.e. the vacuum). Pythagoras, on the other hand, doesn't even have peanuts for brains, lol, so it seems way too big of a name for him.

@Draco those are very sophisticated names! I like it! I shorten my cats' names too. Why did you name them after those particular artists?

thank you

I have a huge appreciation for art of all kinds. Monet, Picasso, VanGogh and daVinci are my most favorite ones (can you tell what I'd be naming my future cats?!)

I love the idea of theming pet names. I grew up with birds, and each of them was named after the Beach Boys song "Kokomo".. I had a Kokomo, Aruba, Barbados (Barbs for short) and Montego

Yes, they do... Piper is very much in charge and a home body, just like Piper in the show.  Phoebe is very flirty and social, just like Phoebe in the show.  Paige is very quirky and sometimes does things before thinking them over, much like her namesake, as well.  Plus, Paige is white (except for her color points) so that fits the whitelighter part of Paige's namesake!

King Arthur was the runt of the litter, but he is now a big 25lb sweetheart.  Morgan La Fay thinks she is the boss and a brunette.  Tyrion takes on many personality traits of his namesake, too.  He is very spoiled and often a little cocky... But, he has a very sweet side and he's very smart.

Where my cats are
Mooch & Noodles are named after the Mutts comic strip.

Growing up all my cats were named after the holiday the were born around or came home near. Tinsel was our Christmas baby. Morning Glory was named after some sparklers we used to get; especially when we spent holidays at our family camp in the mountains! She was a memorial day baby.

One of my friends growing up had all cats named after sodas. She doesn't do that anymore though.

Atticus is named after the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird.
Nel is named after one of my all-time favorite movies "Nell" with Jodie Foster.

Out of our 6 cats, these are the only two I named personally.

My cat Ramona Riddley is named for a character in Jane Rule's novel "This Is Not For You." I love all of Jane Rule's work and this book especially. What a wonderful talent she was. We lost so much when she passed away.

We just have one kitty.  She's a black cat, so I wanted something on the darker side, maybe sinister sounding... but hubby was a no go on that... We all settled on Luna.  My daughter is really into My Little Pony so it kinda stemmed from that.

Luna is a very popular name for a female black cat I find! Though, not usually from MLP but from Sailor Moon!
 Awesome none the less.

Elsie and Ana are after Frozen (my 6 year old named them), Walter is after the grumpy old puppet off the JEFF DUNHAM Show, and Mew was prenamed after the Pokémon Show.
Mew is the only name I don't like. I wish we would have named HER something else.

Our previous cats (PepperAnne and Ms. MILO) were from the PepperAnne cartoon. Their brother was Max, Goofy's son. ;)

I only have one cat but a theme is a cute idea. I named my 6 year old cat, Momo, after Aang's lemur pet from Avatar:The Last Air Bender. When I first saw Momo at the shelter I saw his big ears and puzzled look and I instantly decided that Momo was his name and he was the one to come home with me.

I named my Sphynx girl Frida after Frida Kahlo and when I was getting my Cornish Rex boy I had initially planned to name him Diego after Diego Rivera the mural painter and Frida kahlo's lover but it just didn't seem to suit him so I named him Rupert after a character in a fav childhood tv show.

My Sally was Mustang Sally. I used to sing that to her and tell her that she had better slow her mustang down! lol  My other cat is Minnie, and I called her that because I thought of Minnie The Moocher when she came into the kitchen begging for food. She is also a petite cat. Her nick name is Minnie Mouse.
