...with the cats...

Okay thanks! I didn't know if we should deter them from trying to eat because they are only three weeks old. What about spaying momma kitty? Can she be spayed in three weeks? Or do I have to wait until they no longer use her as their only food source?
i would discuss this with your vet. i've read here from other members that when kittens are 8 weeks old is suggested (sometimes/many times?) for having a nursing momma cat spayed.

Later to day I will upload pictures of the growing babies. They are getting so big! The doctor is the biggest baby in more than one way lol. He cries every time he is held. Astrid LOVES to be held. She is a purring machine. And little boy Mouse is not so little any more. He is second biggest next to the doctor. They are all starting to explore and all of them have looked at Morticias food at least twice. Morticia is very thin! We started giving her things with a lot of protein. She has always been thin but since she is nursing kittens she is even more so. Today she got some chicken and later tonight she will probably get a hard boiled egg.

Nursing mothers do need a lot of good food.  Think of how fast those kittens are growing and all that goodness is coming through her milk!  Moriticia needs lots of mommy pampering and nourishment.

If the kittens are showing interest in mom's food in the next couple of weeks do let them have little tastes, but their main food source should still be Morticia's milk for a couple more weeks as long as she is strong enough.

Okay. I know that they still need her milk. Another question. The food we are giving Morticia is Taste Of The Wild all stages, can we mush that up for the kittens? My mom says that some foods have this spry in it that can kill the kittens. I was wondering if any one has mushed up this food for their kittens? Or if anyone knows if we can mush this particular food up?

Never before have I ever had to actively try to keep a cat inside. It is hard! She has escaped four times tonight
And that is just tonight in the last four hours! She escapes even more during the day. I really hope she doesn't get pregnant again!

It is SO hard but try and keep her away from any doors or windows that might open.  It may now be too late but hopefully not.

Gee those kits are cute, and talk about growing!!!  LoL, those bellies are getting plenty milk, no wonder mum's looking skinny - they'll soon be almost as big as her!   She is doing so well with them.

Thank you so much for the photos.  Major cuteness overload is always good.

How does she escape?
Last night I finally found out it was an open window. After her getting out four times I realized my mom had opened a window when we were cooking dinner and she never closed it. Any other time she gets out its the front door. W open the tiniest bit to go out side and she just moves with our legs. Sometimes the only way to get her back inside is to hold one of her kittens up in a way he doesn't like to get him to cry. He cries the loudest so it always makes her come running.

Gosh I know! I hope its not! I really hope her and the kittens will be ready for her to be spayed on the 16th! We thankfully don't have to worry about the little girl getting pregnant because they are all getting fixed ASAP. Hopefully our vet will spay them at 2 pounds. If not we are finding a new vet. No more kittens foe me!

lol I forgot to mention that she goes in the laundry basket when she is ready for bed. That is where we put her and the kittens after she gave birth, so now if she is ready for bed or wants to get away from her recently moving kittens she jumps in there.

Ok I have a question. So the babies are just starting to play and Morticia like a good mother is playing with them. But it seems like she is biting them really hard. She bites them on the neck, like she would if she would be hunting. I don't know if this is normal or not.

Sounds like you have an escape artist on your hands!

I don't know the answer to the biting question sorry but I'm sure someone else might have some ideas.

You can spay her and terminate the pregnancy if done ASAP.. If you get it done as soon as kittens are weaned the pregnancy should be early enough. You should get a good vet for this though to minimize complications.

Not nice I know but it's IMO a good option. Going through pregnancy again so soon will be hard on your little girl and not to mention more kittens to be rehomed.

It sounds like you are trying very hard to keep her out, I feel for you. They think we're so mean keeping them locked up!

If she ends up pregnant again before we can get her spayed then we will terminate the pregnancy. We can't take care of any more kittens. If the vet wont terminate the pregnancy we wont have a choice but to re-home them. I hate doing that because it takes homes away from cats in the shelter, but w just wont have the money.

Fingers crossed and positive thoughts for you that Morticia is OK and not pregnant again.  Good to keep with the vet appointment you have for her, and see if they will carry out the early spay / neutering for the kits too.  My boy was neutered at 10 weeks, between his vaccinations, and hasn't suffered any ill effects from it.  He was a heavy weight tho', no siblings to steel any of his mum's cream LoL.

As for mum biting the kittens.  I'd say it is normal unless the kittens are squealing in pain and running away from her not coming back for more.  I have a very long video on my camera of Mouse and his mum when he was about 10 weeks - but the behaviour had been going on well before that.  It is hilarious as he didn't have any other kits to pester and mum had to show him everything before he moved out.  She did a really good line in swatting him on to his back, laying on top of him pinning him down where ever they were playing, and then she would bite his throat, his ears, and lock teeth and jaws with him.   She'd let him up once he knew who was boss (not him) and silly boy would walk around in a circle and make a leap for her head and set the whole thing off again.  With this pair the play battles were completely silent but with many cats I suspect there would be a few play hisses and spits too.  It freaked me out the first time I saw her biting his throat and jaws locking teeth bared but he was so obviously enjoying it it was quickly apparent that it was fine.   Even if she gave him a good cuff and bit a bit harder that was his final message enough was enough and he'd just walk off in a bit of a sulk - not hurt other than in pride.
