Hi Mewlittle. Solid Gold is a good quality food but it's not good to feed much tuna because of the mercury. I wouldn't feed this very often. Do they make non-fish flavors? I haven't looked lately.

Soulistic has real meat which is good but it's high in carbs (:  Maybe once in a while.

I like the BG line. Just don't feed the BG CANNED right now. There is a mold re-call on that.

I like Wellness Core and Nature's Variety a lot.

I haven't tried Nutro but it looks fine.

I have  heard Friskies wet is a good way to keep costs down while still keeping protein pretty high.

Mine LOVE Soulistic too. It's Petco's version of Weruva. Same exact ingredients for a better price.

I was surprised when I heard it was high carb. But they still get it once in a while because they deserve a yummy treat sometimes and I like the real meat.

That is interesting. The only place I've seen it is at the actual Petco store and was told it was their store brand. Hmm...

My take on them:

solid gold indigo moon dry: pretty good. Expensive! Comparable to Taste of the Wild but TOTW is cheaper.

solid gold wet: don't they only make tuna flavor? Don't feed too much fish.

nutro wet: pretty good, not too expensive. I buy it sometimes.

soulistic wet: good quality, buy high in carbs. A nice treat

BG dry: I like it, as far as dry foods go. Not terribly expensive, compared to other grain-free dry foods.

wellness core wet: I haven't tried it. The ingredients look good.

nature variety wet and dry chicken: NV is a very good food all around. But yikes on the price!

nutro dry: OK for the price. Not the best but better than a lot of the alternatives.

Rival dry @ biglots: pure garbage. No nutrition at all.

Petpride wet @ Kroger: I don't have a Kroger and I can't find the ingredients online. But Hy-vee brand wet food is fairly decent so maybe theirs is too. Check the ingredient list.

Friskies wet: pretty good, as long as it's the paté flavors. The shreds and chunks and stuff all have wheat gluten.

Not counting water, tapioca starch is the 2nd ingredient. It's one of the highest carb foods on Lisa Pierson's 2012 cat food chart. I was very surprised too!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Soulistic is made by Weruva. The guaranteed analysis provides very different numbers, and both Soulistic and Weruva look great from a carb perspective based on the guaranteed analysis numbers. But Dr. Pierson took the time to contact the companies to get the average nutritional analysis, which is FAR more accurate, rather than something just based on "minimums" and "maximums." Soulistic and Weruva were both surprising to me - and are those that appear to deviate the furthest on an average nutritional basis from their "guaranteed analysis" basis. Bottom line? That potato starch or tapioca add a LOT of carbs. :sigh:

This is so weird, I KNOW I responded to this, because I actually called Soulistic this afternoon after reading your reply, and now I don't see my response.  Anyway, they told me that their President is in discussions with Dr. Pierson because of her food chart, since they believe Soulistic is very LOW carb.  I'm still a proponent of it and will recommend it as a less expensive alternative for people seeking grain free.  Also, not ALL of Soulistic formulas contain Tapioca Starch...only those "with gravy".

I have not fed any of the Petco brands. I usually don't shop there. Have nothing at all against Petco either, just too far away. Naturally I love the Nutro brands
Soulistic seems to be a decent wet food and is Petsmart's brand. I've fed it to the cats and they like it. Wellness Core is good, my cats like it, but I have reservations for other reasons. Have never heard of, or used Rival dry or Petpride. Doubt my post helps but you're asking for opinions
Rival is biglots and petpride is kroger

what is petsmarts brand? i don't have a pet smart but im curious like a cat hahaha
