I just got home from work and didn't even want to walk in the house because I knew he wouldn't be waiting at the top of the stairs.  I held it together all day until I saw his favorite toy and now I've lost it.  Grown ass man.  I hate this.

I feel so bad.  I should have taken him in when he first started throwing up.  and I should have taken him to the better vet as soon as I got the vibe the the current one was not taking it seriously.

:grphug: Oh hun, you didn't know.... You are doing the best you can, and he is having the best care he can possibly have now..... Hopefully he will get all better soon..... :cross:
It is soooo hard when they are so sick, I know :hugs:
Sounds like this is a good place though, and that he is on good hands - let's now concentrate on sending him gigantic vibes :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
Be well...... :hugs:

Thank you.  I called the vet and they told me he is "resting comfortably" which I think is just to make me feel better.  But they have him on bunch of pain meds.  I asked if he has vomited and they said he has not.  If he can stabilize and stop the vomiting, we can go ahead with a feeding tube.

Aw...please don't beat yourself up with second guessing what you could have done--you've got Cage in the best place for him now and he's getting very good care. I could bawl right along with you because I totally get how you're feeling.
I have no advice, just sending my heartfelt prayers and healing vibes for your sweet Cage, you, and your girlfriend. Please do update when you can, and know that you are so not alone; we're all here for you.

Was he eating?  What treatments did you do?

Thanks
No hun, he wasn't eating at all and it was VERY scary because they were also concerned about fatty liver. They gave him sub-q fluids an antibiotic shot and then he ended up having a round of antibiotic pills as well. He was also on meds to help stimulate his appetite. After the first vet visit, which was on a Thursday, he still wasn't eating by Monday so we brought him back to the vet, they kept him overnight on sub-q fluids and of course the next morning the little bugger was eating for them!
He's been great ever since thank goodness, but his attack obviously wasn't nearly as severe as your boy's obviously.

If you only knew how many times I have beaten myself up about my Alex and sometimes I still have to stop myself. Hindsight is 20/20 and all you can do now is learn from it and be there for him in the here and now. We all learn these things as we go along and think of it this way; if you hadn't come here, maybe you wouldn't have gotten him to a better vet in time at all. So you were "guided" here and now he's getting the best of care. I still have seen worse kitties come back from this and I want you to keep thinking of that. Remember he's got a shot! He really does! I don't think they were coddling you, I think they told you the truth. He's very tired and needs to rest. And you know what else? We all LOVE that you love him so much. That makes you a REAL MAN! Okay? It really does! Loving animals as much as you do makes you special and the way you're going the extra mile for him makes you very much a terrific guy in my book. I'm sure everyone here feels that way also. When my Alex died my now ex boyfriend couldn't stop crying and he was very surprised by it. He fell madly in love with her and even his golf buddies who also loved animals felt it was okay for him to feel that way, they felt bad. Because they understand the connection we have to these creatures. so cut yourself some slack. You're a really good pet dad.

I have been following this thread and thinking about Cage a lot, hoping that everything is going to work out just fine.  {{{Hugs}}} to you - thank you for being such a caring cat dad!

I hope to hear some good news back from you today *fingers crossed*.  I am traveling tomorrow and unable to check-in, but will be sending healing thoughts your way.

I too have been following this post everyday and have been sending healing vibes Cage's way whenever I think about what he's going through. It sounds like Cage is a fighter, so I think he can pull through this! You also sound like an awesome cat daddy. Your girlfriend and Cage are lucky to have you,

Kind regards and sending many strong healing vibes

Sorry, didn't update sooner.  Slept forever last night because I'm so beat.  Vet called this morning, he had another round of projectile vomiting so they upped his anti nausea meds.  She tried to get another blood panel but he wouldn't let them.  She was still concerned about the enlarged stomach so they did another ultrasound.

He was positioned better this time and they saw a foreign object lodged in his duodenem that they couldn't see before.  So now we know what caused the pancreatitis and vomiting.  He's going into surgery in an hour.  She doesn't know if he is going to make it through or not.  She will call me if he takes a turn and we will put him down on the table.

Where the object is lodged is very close to the pancreas and that is a concern to her.  She is also afraid that part of the intestine may be dead but she doesn't know.

We are reaching the financial limit of what we can do, so it's this or nothing.  If he makes it through, the best odds she can give me is slightly better than 50/50.

:hugs:
Oh boy, our posts crossed....
Ok, so it was a blockage, essentially......
Alright..... let's now hope for the best..... Let's hope that with them removing the blockage the inflammation will start to subside and he will start to get better :cross:
Please keep us informed as soon as you can, ok? We will be praying for you :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Vibes to Cage, and you and your girlfriend.  I think most of us know what its like to think- I shoulve done this, or, i couldve done that. You do what you think is best at the time, and thats all you can do. Cats vomit, somtimes for no reason, and then they are fine.  You had no way of knowing what would happen.  I know its hard.  You are a good cat dad.  We all understand breaking down.  He gives you such unconditional love, how could you not give it back to him.   I will be thinking of Cage, and hoping for the best.  All of us will.  I really believe that helps.

Poor baby. Im sending you tons of vibes that Cage makes it through surgery and makes a full recovery. :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hang in there Cage sounds like a fighter. You are such a great cat dad. Don't second guess yourself. I think all of us have been there thinking about all the what ifs I know I have. It is only natural. Just know that you are doing everything possible for him, and giving him the best shot now.

They just called.

He is still opened up but they were debating putting a tube in now while he's already open so they took the time to call me to give me an update.  They were able to push the object out of the intestine and into the stomach, open the stomach and get it.  So it was the easier of the surgeries because it did not require opening up additional tissue.  They pulled out a yellow rubber thing that they can't identify but they're saving it for us to see.  I told them to go ahead with the tube so we guarantee he has nourishment.  His pancreas looked very inflamed as expected.  His liver also looked somewhat "abnormal" so they did a biopsy.  She said it might just be the beginning of HL.  His intestines looked good.

She said he is doing well under anesthesia but she can't guarantee anything yet because he's still got a lot of stuff to get through.  They will call me back when he is awake.
