Two gorgeous sleek black sister rescues need home

If you live near northwest Illinois and know of anyone who could open up their home to these two seven month old feral rescue sisters, please pass the word.

Google Animal House Shelter located in Huntley, Illinois. Click on adoptable cats and go to the photos of Avery and Pixie then click on their picture. I trapped them a month ago and now they are ready for their new life. They are the sisters of the one I am keeping with me, Magical Magilla. You can see her picture on our profile and read about her as well. She is my black kitty. Click on her picture.

These girls are so sweet. Pixie is a real lap cat which is surprising after the rough start in life she had. Avery is more reserved but once she trusts you, you will have a purr baby for life.

I think Pixie may have gotten adopted, her picture isn't there. Avery is cute. I hope she gets a home soon to!

All of the cats there are cute! Wow they have a lot of cats there! I hope they all find good homes soon

Your Magilla is beautiful

Just checked the site and Pixie is still there. Bummer. I was hoping you were right. Thanks for the good thoughts and I sure hope they get homes too. I can't keep them all. Yes, Magilla is sooooooooooo adorable.

Ok, I missed her the first time because I went right to the P's section. She's right below Avery sorry about that. She's a beautiful cat

That's ok thanks for caring about them. It makes me sad to think of them there and how scared they are. But at least they are safe and not outside anymore freezing.
They won't be there long. Someone will take them, maybe even together They're still kittens. I don't know about your shelter, but the local shelters here, always have no trouble adopting out the kittens right away

I was at the shelter today helping. Avery is not doing well there. She is still hissing and growling a lot even at me. I just reach in and pick her up and then we cuddle for awhile and she is better. But most people would be afraid to do that since she is so ugly about it. I think avery is scaring Pixie too with all the hissing. Today when i held Pixie she was shaking but purring. I am so worried and pray that someone will understand they are so scared and won't act like this once they get home and start to trust. I actually cried there and feel bad. But they are safe and warm as it is dangerously cold here and I am thankful I trapped them when I did. The weather has been brutal. I will keep you posted on how they are doing.

Are you serious?? please go to the Animal House Shelter website and look up Pixie and Avery. Pixie is a total love. Two days after I trapped her she reached for my hand and purred. She is so happy and grTeful to be out of the elements. When I had her here with me she willingly sat on my lap and was persistent about it Avery was a bit more reserved but would purr and enjoyed my lap for short periods. She is very curious and loves wand toys. They both do. I know if you chose one of them you would have a friend and such loyalty in cat, you will not be sorry. They both loved my other cats and my old jack Russell dogs too. Used the litter box like perfect girls ferals are the cleanest cats because they learned from day one to expertly cover their business to stay safe.

Please ask me anything. I could even meet you at the shelter if you decide to make the trip. They are open seven days a week from eleven a.m. To seven p.m. I have kept their sister Magilla and she is sooooooooooo good but definitely a one person kitty. Although she is starting not to run when my DH ( whatever that stands for. Darling Husband) comes around.

Let me know what you decide and if I can help make this happen

I'll let you know. I've been looking at a bunch of the local shelters, trying to find the perfect playmate for Tails. I also have a family of strays behind my apartment, and I've been trying to catch them to bring to a shelter/maybe keep one. There are so many needy kittens and adult cats around, it's so hard having to choose who needs a home the most (if I had inane amounts money, I would definitely be an animal hoarder, though I guess it wouldn't be hoarding if I had the money).

I know, there are soooooo many strays out there, alone and cold. To me, it seems there are alot more abandoned cats due to the economy. Good luck with rounding up the strays near you. That is very kind of you to try to trap those ferals by you. You would be doing them a great service and saving many lives if you could catch them and get them neutered. Just keep Pixie and Avery in mind if you know of anyone wanting to adopt one of these special kitties. I know there are so many in need of homes too. I am just glad I was able to trap these three kittens AND their mother and get them spayed. Otherwise, there would have been four more litters of feral kittens born in the Spring. Good Luck!!!! And keep me posted on your rescues

That's to bad that their having a hard time adjusting. Hopefully they won't be there much longer. Wish I lived there, I'd take them both. I wish I were rich, I'd take every single 1 of them there, their all beautiful

Arn't you sweet I wish I was rich too, I would build the best home and the biggest home for all of the unwanted cats, especially all the black ones.

I wish I could keep the two girls, but I kept the one, Magilla who was so extremely shy and timid and would have never survived in the shelter environment, would be much worse off than even poor Avery. I had no choice but to keep her here and work with her and now I am so attached and bonded to her I could never let her go .

I would have LOVED to keep Pixie, probably the most affectionate cat I have every known, surprisingly so because she was totally feral. Seriously, she shocked me, climbed all over me and in my lap all the time she was here. Someone will be so very lucky to get a cat like her with that personality. But I knew she was the most adoptable of the three and it would be so very selfish of me to have kept her. Plus, I want to be able to rescue and foster again. Believe me though, I would have kept them in a heartbeat if I had the room. Thanks for your kind, caring thoughts

You will tell us when they get adopted right?

Yes!!!! I will keep updating on their progress as well. I plan to go there tomorrow morning and will check on the girls. I sure hope Avery is settling in a bit better. Will let you know
post #17 of 62
Actually you going to visit them, might help them adjust better. Now they don't live with you, but they know they'll still get to see you.

Yes, I am sure it helps them to see me, then they won't feel so alone there or that I abandoned them for good. Avery was still quite scared today. When I hold her she is shaking but seems to settle down after five minutes or so. She still hisses and growls quietly when you reach for her. Pixie was so cute today, I got her to play with a wand toy and even Avery was going for it. They are in a large two story cage so they have alot of room, with comfy beds and lots of toys. They are taking great care of them. The shelter was not busy when I was there today. We had the big Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers game today, so the shelter was not expecting lots of people visiting today.

:Ive been reading this post. Oh I so, so, hope they find homes.

They are in my prayers every night. It is good they are inside. The cold is brutal.

God bless you for caring. And if you ever are rich, I will be your assistant at the large house for kitties.

Thank you! You have lifted my spirits today. And you will be welcomed with warm arms if I ever get rich and build the "Cats Castle". That is what I will call it and we will all be their servants

Just got home from the shelter. Avery has made no progress..... She is still hissing and growling. I did manage to get her out of her cage and then she settled in my lap for pets and was better. I was able to trim both of the girls nails too. I am worried about Avery. Other volunteers are working with her too, but some are afraid to pick her up. She is learning if she is real ugly with hissing and growling most of them back off. I tried to talk with some of them in hopes they will just go ahead and pick her up. She won't attack anyone or bite (hopefully). I need to pray that someone will come in and want to have a project and be rewarded in the end with the most loving, loyal cat ever. I did get Avery to eat soft food from my hand and then she rolled on her side to be pet. Underneath all that fear is a beautiful sweet cat just waiting to emerge.

Pixie is doing so much better. No shaking and seems happy there (well as happy as a cat can be in that situation). She always seems to adjust quite well with whatever is thrown at her. She has been a real champion throughout this whole process. She takes things in stride and is a doll .

Spent time in the big cat room as well. I try to work with the really scared kitties, and the really out-going ones always try to push the scared cats away to get the attention. Some of them are making progress with me. OH so many homeless cats... But this shelter gets alot of people in looking and that is a good thing
post #22 of 62
That's to bad that Avery is so scared. She doesn't understand what's happening. Maybe if everyone there does spend sometime with her, it will calm her fears a bit.

Still thinking of these two. They deserve a good home.

How are the 2 of them doing now?

Hi and thanks for asking. I just got home from the shelter. Avery is still growling and hissing. It is all a bluff though. And it works very well. I am able to pick her right up and everyone is so surprised. I wanted to show them that she won't bite, but just puts on a show to keep people away.

Pixie is a doll and doing just fine, although, she would like to get a home and is so sweet I can't believe everyone passes her over, black cats are not popular.

There is good news for Avery. She is going to foster over the weekend. One of our foster volunteers is reaching out to her and will take her home (she has two other cats at home who are extremely friendly and cat oriented). This lady will work with her for a couple of weeks. Then she will come back to shelter. My concern is that as soon as she gets back she will regress into her shell. We will see and I will keep posting about them.

Pixie will go into a cage with another black friendly kitten so she will have a friend. His name is Newton and he and her are great together. They are both about seven months old too. We put them together today and they became quick friends. It might be good for Pixie not to have to be near the negative vibes Avery has been giving off and get away from her hissing/growling.

I appreciate the concern for these girls!! I know there are many like them out there, but I want to keep updating until they get adopted and appreciate the good vibes sent their way

Well you sure have mine. So many kitties need homes. I honestly just cry if I think about it.

All I can do is pray for them. And I do every night. Give them a hug from me.

Give them all a hug.

That's to bad about Avery, but maybe being fostered again will help her. I'm happy for pixie it's good that she's adjusting and even made a friend. It's to bad she and Avery will be seperated though.

I know I am sad they will be separated. The shelter cat director originally was going to send both of them to foster together but I didn't think that was in Pixie's best interest. Because, Pixie doesn't need that fostering time. She is ready for to be adopted and needs a new home and I don't want her not getting seen because she is in foster. She has a better chance at getting adopted there. Jane, the director, totally agreed with me. Plus the lady who will be fostering Avery, has two VERY friendly cats who love other cats. So it will be better for both of them right now to be separated. When Avery comes back and Pixie is still there, we will put them all together.

Plus, kitten season will be hitting soon, and then Pixie will be competing with cute tiny kittens, and who do you think will win???!!! the kittens. So she needs to stay there. There are not many kittens in the kitten room right now and alot of people are looking at Pixie. Let's keep our fingers and "paws" crossed
post #29 of 62
I'm glad people are taking an interest in Pixie. That's good, hopefully they'll visit her and connect with her

Maybe someone else will come and see Avery and connect with her. That could still happen. It's to bad that she got so stressed over this. Our original vet used to have cats/kittens up for adoption. I used to go down there all the time to see the kitties. It was just down the street from us, so I went alot. There were a lot of cats I'd have taken (a ton believe me) anyway there were some that were scared and looked over by people, that I would have loved to take. 1 of them was scared because he had been abused. He was shivering and shaking. I wanted him so bad, I would have made him love people. But I had parents at home that wouldn't let me take him (The only reason Lynxx and Luna made it through the door, was because we found/rescued them ourselves. Midnight made it through the door for Luna. If we didn't find them, my mother would still have this house catfree). I still think about him, he was all grey and I'd have named him Smokey. I can't possibly be the only 1 out there, that would love to give a cat/kitten like that a chance. So I'm sure someone will come along for Avery.

You have such a big heart for cats!!. My parents always turned away the lost/stray cats I brought home when I was young. " NO absolutely not" they would say. I like your story about "smokey". And you are right that I need people like you to come along and open their heart to those gorgeous black kittens!!! I keep praying everyday for someone like you to go to the shelter and see past their color and their sad upbringing as a feral kitten and look to the future and how special it will be for them to adopt and open up their home to a cat who will return one-hundred fold the love because of the chance they took on adopting them.
