Rigel of course you were a good father to him. He knew so much love from you and your family that he didn't have before. I am so sorry this has happened - we all know just how you feel. But you and you wife MUST NOT feel guilty over it - these things can happen so easily. RIP Horatio.

I am SO sorry! Your hearts are breaking, but that's just it... it was a tragic accident. You cannot live your life as "would have" or "should have," and the facts remain... you are WONDERFUL parents, and Horatio had a wonderful life and a happy home because of you. His life was cut short, but it takes away nothing at all from the love and care you gave him.

I am so, so sorry, Rigel and Gema. Little Horatio knew love for his time with you, and you certainly can take comfort in that. You gave him a wonderful life. It was an accident, and please, please don't blame yourselves. Right now, he's at the bridge with all of our kitties-past, playing happily.

Rigel, I know it is because of the sadness filling your soul right now that you are not thinking straight. If you weren't a good kitty caretaker, God would have never sent Horatio to you in his time of need. You were broken then just from life, and Horatio, he also was broken. Together, the two of you "fixed" each other. You both had purpose and the love that had laid dormant in your heart was awakened. Perhaps Horatio has now to find another broken person. It was his time to go and he knows because of the deep love you developed for him, that because of his presence in your life (however short it was) there was a reason behind it and you will never forget him or the lessons he taught.

Give Gema a gentle hug from all of us here and be kinder to yourself Rigel. I am sure there is another Horatio waiting around the corner someday in need of that special love YOU carry now in your heart.

I wish I had some words to ease your pain. I think Hissy said it best that God needed a kitty angel to ease another soul. I am so sorry it had to be yours.
