I will definitely vote. I've already volunteered with my local party to drive people to the polls if anyone needs a ride.

Our state is going to go completely red this year. The GOP candidates have been outspending the democrats 4 to 1 in their advertising here. They got a lot of money from the businesses that have outsourced our jobs, yet they won't answer any questions on what they are going to do to grow new jobs here. I've written and called every last candidate on that issue and the only thing I ever got back from the GOP is a single form letter on how they want to turn the economy back to the times of Bush.

Oh I will be voting all right! I won't disenfranchise myself. And I am a ticket-splitter.. choosing candidates, not party affiliation.

This go 'round the mid-term elections are more important than in past years. The husband and I voted on Monday. I don't think your voter registration ever expires unless you move or die.

Me, too. And two people we know are running against each other. A very tough decision.

Anybody who doesn't vote is allowing the small minority of the country who do vote to decide what direction this country is going in. I am an Independent voter, and I'm voting Democrat again this time around. I HATE what the Republicans have been up to the past two years (and before that), and I loathe all things tea party. Mind you, I'm not that happy with the Democrats either, but I will never, ever vote Republican again until they change direction and offer something other than No to everything, fear, bigotry, and hatred, and being shills for the rich and powerful.

You mean when the stock market was at 14,000 and unemployment was at 5.5%? (The highest unemployment under Bush was 7.1%, in his last month in office. Before that, the highest had been 6.5% in 2003.)

An interesting report on NPR's "On The Media" today about spending on ads. The conclusion was that doubling spending, all other things being equal, raises a candidate's vote by 1%. So, unless they're very close, higher spending doesn't have the effect you might think it would.

On The Media

And it looks like Ms. Fiorina may well lose, in spite of her huge spending.

Was that supposed to impress you? If they want to impress you, they should have said they want the economy to be how it was under Clinton...you know...before it tanked under Bush.

Yup.

The only thing I found difficult was that ALL candidates would not answer questions. They all have a platform and none of them would tell me how they plan on implementing what they promise. Since the current group has done poorly, I just voted all the incumbents out other than local judges.

Oh, and didn't some of the tanking economy under Bush was due to some of Clinton's policies..ie NAFTA?

NAFTA isn't a good example, because that was negotiated and then signed by Bush Senior in December of 1992. Bush ran out of time, and it was ratified under Clinton after he'd added some clauses to protect American workers.

Admittedly, I didn't get interested in how our government works until about eight years ago.

One thing I don't understand is the housing collapse. When we were looking for a house our realtor told us we could get more house for lower payments with an ARM. I said I would rather have a fixed rate so I know what my payments will be until the house is paid off.

Seems to me quite a few problems are caused by people not taking responsibility for their decisions.
