Hiding from my SS!
Update for today: Leslie and baby are both stable. Baby has dropped but showing no signs of distress. Leslie has an increased chance for infection since her water has ruptured so they are keeping her on antibiotics as well as steroids to help the baby's lungs develop. Physically both are doing very well. Leslie started having mild contractions last night and is very emotional and worried. They are giving her something to stop/slow labor from progressing but I don't know how well it is working. They are still trying to keep Calleigh baking for awhile yet but if Leslie's labor progresses further they will deliver her.

Thanks everyone for your support and for readiing. This year I moved 4 hours away from my family to get married and it is currently not possible to go be there with my sister during this time. This is the first major event I have missed from being in my new location. I think being able to talk to someone about this is helping me handle the stress and concern I feel for them.

Continued vibes for Leslie and Calleigh!

A friend of mine is diabetic, and they had to induce labor as soon as the baby's lungs were developed. I hope Calleigh's able to "bake" for as long as possible, but I'm sure all will be fine is she's born prematurely.

Im glad to hear eveyone is stable! Its amazing how long babies can do well without fluid. One of the mothers I know from my NICU support group went 6 weeks, in the hospital on complete bedrest (27 - 33 weeks). I'll keep the vibes going in you and your family's direction!

Update for today: Currently we are in a holding pattern. The doctors have stopped all meds except the antibiotics. Apparently Calleigh has had enough steroids for her lungs to develop. They have taken her off the medicine to prevent/slow labor and decided that whenever my sister starts feeling contractions they are going to deliver her. Leslie and baby are both stable and looking great medically. According to the monitor she is still having contractions but not feeling them.

There is no telling whether she will start feeling contractions and deliver today or if it will be weeks in this holding state. I believe they are going to induce September 14th if she hasn't had her by then, due to the risk of infection for Leslie due to the amniotic sac having ruptured.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Many many for mom and baby also for you I can only imagine how tough it is not being able to be there for her. Maybe you will get lucky and be able to get out there before baby is born or right afterwards. Best wishes to all of you!

I haven't updated in a few days, sorry. Nothing new to report until today. She has been stable and waiting in the hospital for the baby to come, they have been treating her with antibiotics to prevent uterine infection and keeping her on the baby monitor to watch Calleigh for distress. The little brat seems to be perfectly content to keep us all waiting with baited breath. Apprently she takes after her mother already...

This morning Leslie started experiencing some bleeding along with the amniotic leaking. The nurse suspects she may be dialating but they don't want to do a cervical exam because it could introduce bacteria to the uterus while she is already at an increased chance of infection. She is not experiencing any noticable contractions but they are showing on the fetal monitor as they have been for several days but with no increase in frequency. Calleigh looks fine on the monitor showing no distress and is still moving around and kicking and has a good heartrate.

The doctor is supposed to come check on her some time today but I don't know when, and if she is dialating they will allow her to deliver whenever her body does so naturally without accelerants, unless Leslie or Calleigh experience any kind of distress.

Lots of vibes!

It looks like she's 33 weeks, which is good. The baby's sucking reflex is established, and if she is delivered now, she will be able to feed and breathe on her own. She will just be small, but otherwise fully developed.

I used to work in antepartum and looked after many women who were admitted for various complications in their pregnancy and many babies were born at this stage without incident. A couple weeks in NICU to ensure some weight and additional growth and they all went home with Mom and Dad.

32 weeks is a GREAT milestone for babies, and I"m sure your sister has received stroid shots for the babies lungs and they help soooooo much. My DD Lexi was born at 31 weeks and she is doing GREAT now.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions
4 weeks ago my DIL had triplet girls at 28 weeks, 5 days and only 2 1/2 lbs each. They are still in the NICU but are doing great!

I know it is scary to have a preemie, but now they can do so much to improve the outcome.

I'm sure they will be fine!

Leslie is at 34 weeks today. She got the OK yesterday to get out of bed and be pushed around the ward and the garden in a wheelchair which she was very excited about as she has been going stir crazy in the bed. My mom took her out in the wheelchair for a 30 minute ride around the garden there. Unfortunately she was so eager to get out of the bed for awhile she decided to not tell her doctors about the lower back pain she has been experiencing for over 24 hours. She woke up in the middle of last night with the start of contractions, which are painful but not unbearable for her happening every 4-6 minutes. They still have not checked her cervix because of the risk of infection but believe she may have dialated, which would explain the bleeding she was experiencing. The contractions are not getting closer together so far and they are hoping they will stop so they can keep Calleigh in, but they will deliver her if the contractions get closer together or more severe. I will be sure to post pictures of baby Calleigh whenever she does arrive!

Leslie has gone into labor and has dilated naturally so they are going to deliver Calleigh now. She is not handling the pain very well so they are doing an epidural but everything is going fine and normally. Calleigh is showing no signs of distress.
