I have 2- a dell laptop and I run both Windows 7 and linux mint on it- I use windows 7 for MS Office, because I can't stand open office, because when I write in Spanish it doesn't mark the words wrong and autocorrect them if I miss the accents. That significantly slows down my typing and I type in Spanish a lot...
Otherwise I use linux mint, which I like because it runs a little faster, especially when I use GIMP it loads in like 30 seconds ..
And then my netbook is an Acer model and I love it, and I run linux mint on it.

Our main PC is a HP running Vista and is used mainly for our home based business. DH has a HP laptop which is also Vista and mine is also HP but runs Windows 7. Mine I use to make greeting cards on.

My laptop is an Acer too.... love it except...... its got a widescreen and with my hands, that makes it very heavy.... oh, and it eats the battery down fast.

BUT, no complaints since I didn't buy it

Laptop: 17" widescreen Acer, ummm 3-4yrs old.

Hubby: Desktop: Gateway quad core
, awesome vid card, etc.... Running Vista.....6mos old.... I keep telling him one of these days I'm going to switch towers with him

Dell Dimension 8300.
P4 3GHz
2GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 7300

Windows XP SP2

My machine is 6 years old and still runs like the day it arrived.
I've upgraded the RAM and Video card, next will be the addition of another hard drive or two, 160GB is too small and close to full.

We have a ACER desktop, running Vista. It's plugged into the TV, so we use it mostly to watch TV and movies.

My boyfriend has my old HP laptop, which also runs Vista

But the computer I use the most is my ASUS eeepc (a netbook) and it runs Ubuntu netbook remix. I love that little computer

Using a HP laptop with Vista, though I do have a desktop (needs to be set up after moving) with Windows ME. Yep, it's old, but it runs!

We each have our own desktop PC. No idea what brand, they're both really old and we bought them second hand. They run XP.

aj - if you can run vista you might as well see what you can get as far as windows 7 goes. You'll have more support for, well everything, if you keep closer to being up to date on your OS.

Did you look for a Spanish dictionary for it? That's the thing with linux, if something is missing it's because you didn't install it - not everything comes with all of the extra packages included since most people don't need them all and it just takes up more space and resources.

I build our computers.
My current one is a few years old -
pentium D 3.2ghz, 800fbs
asus mother board (can't remember what I put in there now) with all the amenities - onboard graphics, though I do have a spare graphics card around here somewhere.
3gbs of ram
1tb western digital caviar black sata harddrive
spare dvdr burner (lol)

Originally scraped together on a budget ($120 - with less ram and a spare HD) because my IDE channels messed up on another computer.
Currently using sidux - a distro that uses a few of it's own scripts and a slightly hacked kernel to make Debian unstable Sid more stable. It's a rolling release and can be updated/upgraded almost weekly to keep ahead on security and support.

DH's current computer is around the same setup but with a 9800GT, XP, and a smaller harddrive. We have some other old computers that still run, too, plus misc parts.

All desktops in this house. All custom built by the local computer guru (DH). His and mine are both running XP, and we're not in a hurry to change that. He also has several others of I know not what specs sitting around, one of which is his test bed for his various messings around with our machines and those of various friends.

Yup I did, and it does work if I misspell a word, but I guess missing an accent doesn't count as misspelling the word..I downloaded an add on called accentuate- I can add the accents manually, but that still takes more work than MS office because I have to press a bunch of keys when in MS office it's on autocorrect...I guess I could manually add the most common words on autocorrect but that would take forever.
