My husband and I got together because he would share stories of his cat. And we ended up living together pretty quickly because we didn't want to neglect my cat or his. Now I'm not too sure they were happy with the arrangement.

My husband would never admit it (he still tries to insist that he doesn't like cats) but Nora is his baby. She is definitely more "his" cat than she is mine. She would much rather sit on his lap and get love from him, and she greets him before me when we come home. She thanks him for feeding her even if I'm the one giving her the food. lol He's completely ga-ga over her, and turns into a pile of mush when she is around. lol Like I said though, he would never admit this to anyone. hehe He's never been like this with any other animal we've had, so I think it's something about her.

On the other hand, let us talk plain reality. Whenever men get together at a bar or wherever, their favorite subject is pussy. So, just who the heck thinks cats are not men's favorite things to talk about?

My BF is a cat lover, thank goodness. He doesn't even mind it when there are three or more cats lying on the bed with us at night!
In fact, Baby Bonnie is in love with him, and gets jealous if he pays attention to any of the others!

Pick me, pick me!

I didn't realize guys were a minority here until someone pointed it out to me. Maybe I thought we were just sitting back and observing. LOL

I love both dogs and cats, but cats make more sense with our lifestyle at the moment, so that is what we chose.

Cool thread.

Guilty. I dunno what I'd do if I didn't have this black furball of doom.

My first pet was a dog though, but that was a family pet. MY first pet of choice was a cat, and always will be.

Well I wish my hubby was like you guys on here, he doesn't like cats, just tolerates them. He ignores them all and to be honest they don't like him either
He doesn't mind Billy, he is our only boy cat and he will occasionally (very occasionally) give him a fuss. I really don't know why he is like this, never mind, the cats don't care

i don't mind it at all because as soon as i get Delilha out of the box, all the ladies at the vet's office start bragging on her, how pretty she is and she is so white and fluffy.
then they are always some other cat lovers there and they always say how pretty she is.
she gets bragged on allot at the vet's office so maybe she won't mind going as bad.
but she will still cry all the way over there and back.
when we get back home she will run and hide for awhile, then she will be ok.
she hide on me for 3 hours and i could not find her.
i had to cancel the vet appointment and will try again this saturday.

she is the smartest cat we have ever had. she seems to know what is going on all the time.
she even tries to talk to me, and looks at me, like, why can't you understand what i am saying?????
i just say "daddy cannot understand cat talk" and she finally just gives up and walks away with disgusted look on her face.

she is so cute, i just love that little furball.

What a great thread! I've loved cats since I was a kid and now I can finally admit it!

There is an unfair stigma attached to men who love cats. I've had a few male acquaintances over the years who professed to HATING cats and they always seem to have some hidden doubts about their own masculinity.
As if being cruel to a harmless feline would make them into tough guys. It only makes them pathetic, sad bullies.

My Grandfather, a World War II veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured by a German fragmentation grenade at Anzio Beach has been an unapologetic cat lover ever since I can remember. He lived through (and remembers) the Great Depression, was a leather-jacketed biker in the 1930's, and killed Nazis during the war. I'd say he's proved himself to be a real tough guy and still he loves cats. He just loves for a kitty to curl up in his lap and snooze.

As for me, when our cat climbs in my lap, curls up and lets me scratch her neck, I just melt. Being a smaller-than-average cat, I think Iris brings out my natural protective instinct. Stereotyping male cat lovers as weak or feminine is just ridiculous. Cats are loving, loyal and entertaining pets for anyone who cares to notice. Barry

ABSOLUTELY!

My late uncle fit into this catagory, he was given every advantage as a kid but didn't take it and run with it. He passed away 30 years ago and never turned his life around.

He was a heavy drinker with a cruel streak, he would kill cats, he was in the habit of shooting any hunting dog that did not measure up to his standards.

In the mid 1950's, my cousins and I were early public school age, we knew that you didn't let Uncle XXXXX catch you behind my grandfather's house, he was in his late 30's and would bend little kid's arms behind their back until they screamed and cried, this was not friendly "horse-play".

One day, back then, my Dad saw this. Dad was a WWII Navy Vet with the typical "Great Generation" idea of right and wrong and very tough and in good shape; the abuse of us kids quit after that.

Much later in the 1970's, when I was in my 20's, over a few beers, Dad confessed that the day he saw the incident, he took Uncle XXXXX out behind my Grandfather's barn and "explained a few things to him"

He got what he deserved IMHO, a weak man with a very cruel streak who only picked on something that couldn't fight back. Not a nice way to remember a family member, but the truth isn't always the way we want things to be.

Dad passed away in 1986. I don't want to give the impression he was a violent man, he wasn't, we got along well he was a great guy; like a lot of his generation, he was prepared to stand up and step in when provoked.

And.........................Dad liked cats, too.

Here is what I think: When the internet first came out it was a man's world. Since then, things have changed. When I first became a technical writer, 99% of technical writers were men. Now it is 80% women. The same thing has happened to forums on the internet, women have taken over. The fact that 93% of people on TCS are female does not reflect us men's love of cats at all. It only reflects that women now dominate the forums because women are more apt to voice their opinions and write them down than men are. Also, there is the fact that many men are embarrassed (why the hell are they?) to admit they love cats. I can remember a time when I said I liked cats that people considered me gay. That is 100% truth. So, I think this reflects why the cat forums are so dominated by women, and does not reflect truly the percentage of us men that deeply love cats as I do.

My dad didn't grow up with cats, and was indifferent to them until he met my mom and her two cats. We never had less than 2 cats in the house when I was growing up.

My fiance is the same way- always had dogs when he was a kid. Even though he's allergic to cats, he let me try fostering one from the shelter I volunteer at and it was love at first site with him and Albus. Albus has been with us for almost 2 years now and my fiance told me a couple weeks ago that if Albus could play video games, he wouldn't need any other friends.

I'm a male - 28 that loves cats, but one further: I cannot stand dogs. Annoying, smelly, creatures. The only things that stink about cats are their litter box (which I'm hoping to eliminate now with the toilet training).

I actually swayed my g/f to be a cat lover. She'll never go back to dogs now.
She said dogs are "too high maintenance"

I'm pretty much like you when it comes to dogs, I don't like them. Not my cup of tea, I too feel they are too high maintenance!
My boyfriend is a total dog lover and he doesn't like cats, he tolerates Shane because well... we don't live together and my apt, my cat! We often speak on when we get married how that will work out because I'm not living with a dog, I'm not even tolerating it and I'm not giving up Shane as long as I live. I wish he was a cat man. I know he's livid with Shane because he scratched him a couple of days ago and my boyfriend says Shane "attacks" him. Shane is only playing! He tried to shut Shane out my room one night...but Shane's sweet face convinced him to let him in(as if my fussing about it wasn't, he doesn't put my son out my room). I thought we made some headway with him getting use to the cat...then the scratching incident set us like 10 steps back!
