thank you carolina for your responses. i appreciate your insight! oh and thank you for the coupon! thats the vet im taking peaches to.
Aww... poor baby - if the ACV is working, I think she really might have UTI... I wish you could take her earlier... Would your grandma be open to pay for the treatment, in case she does in fact have an UTI? This way you could take her sooner? Or it's because they don't have an appointment available?
I understand you can only do what you can, and that you are trying your best... I am glad the coupon is going to work out for you - VCA is one of the vets I use (out of 2), and the great thing is that the are really equipped to do a lot of testing and procedures... I love my vet from there - she is a sweetheart. That coupon helped me with Lucky - and with Bugsy I presented a coupon for 30% off the first pet visit (when you are not new there, but the pet is), which you can do with your other kitty, if he needs it.
That is great that she is peeing on the box again!
Did you make the 2nd box with the lid of the first?

i know i wish i could take her sooner also. I have to wait until friday when i get paid. I had to pay for rent, school & a ticket, so my pay check this past week was gone before i knew it. She isnt whining anymore, so i think she is not feeling too much pain right now. the vet is going to do a urine test thats $60. my grama is just complain if i ask for that much.
I did make the 1 cat box w/ a lid into 2 boxes. they are huge. i wonder what they felt like being inside it with the lid on. the cat box before was so tiny.

I'm glad you are taking your kitty to the vet as soon as you can. It does sound like she may have a UTI or related issue. I'm glad you have at least researched some of the possible non-vet solutions and tried some in the meantime. Glad it's working for your kitty, and glad you are taking her to the vet, even if she has improved with your own solutions!

While some can be a little harsh/finite with their criticism of pet owners who cannot afford to take them to the vet or provide the necessary supplies, there is a point in their argument. Pet owners need to be prepared for the unexpected costs of pet ownership. Is it possible for you to put some money into a "cat fund" for when issues such as this arise? It's great that your grandma will pay for the vet for you, but it's no good if she refuses to take your cat to the vet when it's needed. Cats hide their illnesses, so they won't necessarily look sick or act sick, as your grandma might be expecting to see. Having a little put aside so that you can comfortably take care of your babies when needed is a great alternative. Or, as some have mentioned, Care Credit might be a good option as well.

I know that you are busy, but, please, if the cat continues to act like she's in pain or the symptoms get worse, take her to the vet earlier. Talk to your boss/professors (teachers?), and I'm sure you can work something out to make a hole in your schedule.

Best of luck and good vibes for your kitties.

I just wanted to drop a not on the tip about ACV - WOW!!! There is a lot of great feedback about it out there - I am going to buy a bottle of the raw one to have it on my cabinet, and maybe start adding a tiny bit to Bugsy's wet food everyday... It seems to be a great remedy, and prevention tool, especially to UTIs and URIs. Thanks again for the tip, I am glad this is working for your kitty!
ETA: About carecredit: you can apply right online, get the answer immediately, and use it right away, so give it a try - you might be able to take your baby to the vet now instead of tuesday...

i understand that people have a point in their arguement, but there is no need for someone to be so rude about it. you said basically the same thing, but in an approp. manner. if my cat starts acting weird again, i will get her to the vet in no time but she is doing fine right now with the alternate medications. she is going in the litter box, and she is not whining like she was before. usually i have money, but because i had to pay $700 for school & $150 for a ticket, my pay check was gone quicklike. Rent also but thats not what broke me.

Oh yes, you can do it online - the application is easy, the approval process is immediate, and you can also use it immediately.
There is no interest if you pay it on time, and it is good for all medical needs, including tests, prescriptions, etc.

I had never heard of ACV either (actually had to google it to figure out the acronym!), and it does have lots of good feedback. I did see a warning to not use too much, as you can change the acidity of the urine to the other end of the PH scale, which can cause other problems.

silly_goose, I did not see you post about rent, school, and ticket before posting mine. I'm glad that you're looking into Care Credit - it's probably perfect for you if you usually have the money.

Some of us have to work, you know, to buy the kibble and litter.
What I said was "when" she sees her peeing - I can't find in my post where I told her to watch her kitty 24x7
.
Oh, yes, by the way, I also know very well what the word "work" means, but thanks for the free English lesson... Nowadays I am all for the freebies

So... anything constructive to add to this thread? Because the OP came here for help - not to be attacked...

i too didnt see anything where you suggested i watch her 24/7. and i did come here for help! thank you again carolina
you have helped me quite i bit. although, i did apply for that carecredit and i apparently dont have enough credit established. but as i said, she seems to be doing perfectly fine with this ACV in the meantime. i do see her using the cat box more often, but that may be because one is outside of my closet & i can actually observe.

That's great!! There is a lot of feedback about ACV and UTIs, and Crystals... I am glad she is doing better - I think she she is more comfortable now to wait until Tuesday...
You said something that made me think now: Cats sometimes don't like, and will refuse to use the litter boxes when they are in confined spaces such as closets, for 2 reasons: 1- they might feel trapped; 2- it concentrates the smell...
So, another advice for you to test it out: Take the 1st litter box out of the closet, and move to one of the corners in you bedroom. IMO, the back corners are better, as the kitty can see the whole room, including who is coming through the door... Yes, you will have 2 litterboxes in your bedroom, but that will be far better than having pee everywhere
.
About carecredit: your grandma can co-apply with you; just an idea...
Have you seen the kitty pee outside of the box again?

Carolina and silly_goose - that not-so-nice comment from the poster who is from my own state but shall remain nameless - bothered me as well. And it's not the first one of it's kind from said poster.

I have 3 cats, and 3 kids, and my family lives paycheck to paycheck - always. I cannot afford half the vet care or very healthy premium food or expensive litter I read about on this site. I know it would be great, but I just can't. Doesn't make me a horrible pet owner in my eyes. I love those kitties to death, and I do the best I can by them.

Yes, responsible pet owners should be, well, responsible pet owners. And I believe all of us are. I believe with all my heart that lower middle class as I am, I am still better than my kitties being unloved, unfed, unhoused, and running the streets (and one of mine was).

Sorry. I just had to get this off my chest. It's bothered me for quite a long time.

silly_goose, I hope your baby gets some help soon, and makes a full recovery.

I think that we all love our cats very much, otherwise we wouldn't be here at TCS, right? Things are tough for a LOT of us... That doesn't mean we are bad parents, or pet parents...

I hope your baby gets better too. Lots of vibes.

I'll share my story with you too. I'm a Pedigree cat breeder and I have spent $6,000 NZD on cat shows since Feb this year. I've been showing a kitten of mine called Tales (In my avatar) and she developed some lumps by her tale at the end of April. I've been monitoring them since then and have had two friends look at them (we all breed cats) and had one vet visit (not my normal vet, local one) who prescribed antibiotics. I didn't take her back to the vet until last Friday because like many people (not saying you!) I didn't think it was that serious.

Well turns out poor Tales has infectious dermatitis and it kinda looks like this (don't look if you have a weak stomach) http://www.all-pets-info.com/fleacon...dermatitis.jpg

She had to get all her fur shaved off near the area but wow I have been feeling so guilty. I just kept thinking I wish I had taken her sooner. It wasn't a big money thing for me because luckily I've got the best vet on the earth (IMO). I feel like the scum of the earth at the moment - why didn't I do something sooner. I am going to beat myself up

Luckily $80 later my baby girl is on the mend and I just wish it had been cleared up a lot sooner.

We wont let you be bullied don't worry

Carolina's comment made me think of something else too:

My upstairs neighbour who fostered several cats had a male cat who was peeing outside the box and she was getting really frustrated. She had health issues cleared, etc. so she knew it was behavioural. What had happened is that the litter box had previously been in a spare room/large closet. However, when someone moved in with her, she had to move it into a closet. She had one of those freshmatic air fresheners in there, but she had it with the box previously as well. As soon as she took that out, the peeing outside the box stopped. In the smaller space, the scent just became overpowering and he refused to go in there, I guess.

thanks everyone for the posts! i obviously wasnt on this past weekend. peaches isnt peeing outside the cat box anymore. shes not whining. there was once instance i believe lastnight where she was whining at the door, and after ignoring her for about 3 mins, she stopped and came and layed down with me. as to before, she would sit there and howl at the door for at least an hour. im not sure where the improvement came from, but i wont ask questions.

i havent taken the one cat box out of the closet, i have to figure out where to put it. i put the other one under my vanity, and that was the only open space.

So so true! Right now, I have one kitty from a kill-shelter & I do my very best by her b/c she rescued me as much as I did her. Since she has a jaw deformity, her special food and vet "emergency fund" are a priority for me, so sometimes things are tight, but we do our best by our kitties and they give us so much love, which is priceless
