here's Tolly modeling it (they love the one behind him, too)
Those curvy ones look cool.

I wonder if Mittens would like that. He likes the cardboard one, but he goes to the groomer for his nails (He is a polydactyl with odd nails).

How much does Walmart charge?

I am going to get one of those curved cardboard ones from Walmart too...or maybe a few so they don't have to argue LOL.

LOL, at least we all have great alternatives!

The other companies are going to love the Emery Board, it's bring them more consumers.

My cat has used the scratching boards and loved them. The only problem was it did not help trim her nails. So when I saw the emery cat boards I thought this was an answer to our problem of nail trimming since she absolutely hates it- hisses, tries to scratch me and even two of us holding her down sometimes we only get one or two nails trimmed and we have to try again or jsut skip it altogether. So I got 2 for the price of one, sprinkled the catnip on- which actually she is not very fond of catnip - and she had refused to use it! I have set her on top, brushed her there, put cat treats on it. I thought I would give it some time. So I try to return it and since its been over 30 days I am out of luck. You can't even contact anyone by phone. My advice, don't be a sucker like me. Anyone have any other advice for nail trimming?- also tried the pedipaws for $20- no luck.

Just wanted to say that I wish I had known about this site before I ordered the emery board. I could have saved my money!

Well, it came in the mail today. Two boards, bases, feather thingeys, slicker brushes, and catnip packets. The cats were interested in it as I opened it up, they made sure to inspect everything. Now I have three nipped-out cats. Ha ha. Anyway, here are some pictures. Time will tell if they'll actually USE it, but they enjoyed helping me open it.

And the irony, I decided to experiment last night by putting Soft Claws on all three cats, so I'm sure scratching just "won't be the same" for them for a while. Ha ha, oops.

If you have any questions, let me know!

I think Abbey's favorite part is the box.

Sneetch checks out the brush and catnip.

This is what was in the box (well, this is half of what's in the box, since I got two-for-one).

Abbey and Sprinkles.

Sneetch and Sprinkles are much more interested now that there's catnip involved.

I just got the board today. My kitty was interested in the catnip when it was in the bag. When I sprinkled a little bit on the board, he just sniffed it a bit. He seems interested on the feathery toy though. Not much use of it yet, but I think he doesn't know it's for scratching. x]

Hey, I'm new here, so figured I'd start off with hello. So hello everyone!
Also, I'm soooooooooo glad I stumbled across this thread researching the emery cat; I'll not invest, thanks to what I've read here. I have a..."special"...kitty, a 3 yr old, fidgety, fussy, orange-and-white tabby named Aries; he adopted me when he was a couple of months old (he was a stray). He still has stray cat mentality, though; one of his idiosyncrasies is shredding my furniture everytime he's stressed, and when he gets playful, he just STICKS to things, be it a wall, a curtain, or *cringe* the leather couch. And heaven help the entire front entryway if he's watching through the windows and catches a mouse running across the porch! He will not tolerate me clipping his claws--he's a very affectionate puss, but he does not like to be held down, and he'll tear you to shreds in .5 seconds if you force him, and he is completely indifferent to scratching posts of all kinds. However, in deciding not to go for the emery cat, I've instead found something he LOVES. Just a plain, corrugated cardboard scratch pad. The cheapest one they had at Walmart, it also came with a bag of catnip. I don't know if his claws are any less sharp, but he flat out goes to town on the scratch pad, so he doesn't attack the house anymore, so I dont' care. I don't know if this will be any help to anyone else at a loss about cat scratching, but its the only thing Aries has responded to. And about that "kitty-weed"...soooooo not necessary for Aries...

Wow...I said more than I'd intended...all I'd really MEANT to say was hi and thanks...lol

my cats wont even go near it except to rub all over it when they smell the cat nip. they wont even step on it though. I put it up for sale on eBay for someone else's cat that may have more luck. Guess its back to trying to clip the claws again. yuck and ouch!

They wear them out in a few months, and I get a new one. they're ugly, but the cats love them.

ONE caveat. The base isn't big enough, so i put it under a post of the bed so they don't just pull it over.
I agree, fastnoc.
I have also offered those scratchers for my kids and they are always appreciated. And these are cats that have full access to the outdoors (with real trees)! A suggestion for that kind and other upright scratch posts: lay them on their side as they get used up near the top (where the cats usually reach). You get a great deal more use out of them, and the cats act like it's a whole new toy. [/FONT="Arial

On a side note - please,
everyone! NEVER DECLAW your friend! And do your best to ensure that cats living elsewhere are also saved from such a useless, horrid and incredibly painful course of action! THANK YOU!

Oh, and in case this other particular item is unfamiliar to anyone, the large majority of our feline family love this toy, which also includes a corrugated cardboard scratch pad in the center. When the pad is “scratched out” you can flip it over and use the other side before having to make use of a new pad. In fact I bought a second Turbo Scratcher after seeing our first had a waiting line of felines.

I could not find a specific site for the manufacturer, but the toy itself is available in numerous locations. This is one of the links with a quick video of the toy: http://www.expotv.com/Turbo-Scratcher-70128/2D-TwU

The woman is clear and correct in her description—although I wonder if she realizes that both sides of the pad can be used. Also, the used pads are much better off recycled than thrown away.

Enjoy!

WE JUST GOT THE RUNAROUND AS WELL. We ordered the 2-for-1 deal and they charged me over 70 bucks. We have been hassled by their "customer service" all morning, and got hung UP on.

Unfortunately for them, I happen to be a Web journalist, and will be writing a VERY bad review of their company. I'll link you fine cat owners to the article once it is written and published.

Thanks!

I really enjoy my Emery Cat alot

I have attached a pic below of me with my favorite toy.

I've read lots of complaints from people ordering the Emergy Cat from the "official website". I ordered mine through Amazon with no problem. It arrived in 2 days and it was cheaper - $19.99 plus 7.95 shipping for the deluxe model. My cat was very enthusiastic at first, but the surface is very abrasive, much rougher than an emery board and I think he doesn't like walking on it. I haven't seen him scratch on it for several days, so it remains to be seen if this was a waste of money.

I got the emery cat (on ebay) and my cat won't use it. She loves the feather that goes in the side, but when she plays with it, it usually comes out of it's little whole. Doesn't scratch the actual board at all though. I should have figured though because I have several cardboard scratchers for her, and she doesn't use any of them.

The order should have cost $35.00 total. After I finished the process I was presented with a $66.70 bill that will be charged to my credit card. I am trying to reach the company, but it took 2 days for an email to come with an actual phone number and they are closed till Monday, natch. I understand the boards will be available in stores such as Target, Walmart, and pet stores. I strongly suggest waiting till then to buy one and give it a try. In theory it may prove really great. But I would warn all not to buy from their web site.
I am having issues with my order and haven't been able to find a phone number to contact them. Would you be able to share that info with me?
