As far as I know this breeder is from Florida

I'm sorry - I was thinking she was in Canada - thanks for clarifying it. Notice she did NOT say your kitten was not 100% Devon - she's skirting the issue and not telling you the entire story. Her horses have nothing to do with sellling you a Devon mixed breed cat.

I don't know how long ago her cats were in shows, but seriously they would never win anything in the ring in today's competition. Yeah, her "gene" pool is not like the other breeders, cause she is making her own pool with cats that should not be bred together. No other breeder would WANT her lines with their Devons!

Just for your info - I bred Cornish Rex (which are Devon's cousins). Cornish do NOT have long baby fur - they have short tight little waves at birth. And Devon rexes do not have long baby fur either.

What worries me is that she only seems to have pictures of those 2 cats (the white and the silver tabby) on her website. I'd hazard a guess and say they are the only 2 Devon Rex she owns or has owned. People like this make me so mad!

I'm pretty confident in saying that she wrote all those "comments" herself too! Unless everyone she sold kittens to had such poor english and who refers to their lovely new baby as "Kitten"??

I was looking over her website and I was not impressed. I am so sorry you have went through this and are still trying to sort it all out. It just is not fair and I hope you get something worked out.

The picture had been posted on there since January 16th 09, which was right after my little Galadriel was born on 01/10/09

I think at this point I would see what it would cost to get a lawyer to send her a letter regarding this matter. I dont know the wording you might have them use, but I would be mighty pissed and wanting answers.

You have every right to be angry. You paid good money for a purebred and its obvious she is not. Dont get me wrong, she is cute as a button and deserves a wonderful home that I know you will give her. Its just that you were expecting something else and then the CFA papers are wrong?

Yeah, she would likely get a good telling off from me and a threatening letter from a lawyer.

I agree that you should get a lawyer, but you need to get all your ducks in a row before you start the process.

What does your contract say? Did you buy a specific kitten with sire and dam named? Does it specify "purebred" or "fullbred" Devon Rex? Or is it just a generic contract for a kitten from this cattery? Pet quality or show quality?

Make copies of all the emails you sent and received. Be sure all information is showing: date, time, email address to and from. Also copy all the email files onto a CD and keep it in a safe place. Other paperwork you will need includes proof of your payment(s) to the breeder and receipt(s) from her.

Make sure you include the cost of DNA testing in your claim against the breeder.

What compensation are you prepared to accept? Full or partial refund of your purchase price? Are you willing to return your kitten to the breeder if she offers a replacement kitten who is bred from the correct parents? Keep your kitten and get a second (purebred) one at a reduced price?

The lawyer will have more suggestions for you, but it helps if you go in with a plan rather than just blasting away at the breeder.

Good points everyone. Personally I would NEVER accept another kitten out of that cattery as a "replacement". Second, I would keep the kitten I have, but the compensation would be at least 1/2 the expenses (purchase price and shipping) you put out. Be nice if you could get all of it back, but 1/2 back would be better then nothing.

I'd kinda like to know what Devons are in the background (what are the catteries)? Too bad you are in California or I'd be very willing to look over all the paperwork you have (contract, pedigree, etc.).

I'm pretty sure this kitten wasn't sold for a large amount.

Here are some quotes from Jacky (fairy kittens sister regarding this kitten)(mews2much)
You will find out soon.
It is pet quality.
The kitten was born in Jan.
I just talked to my sister and she tried to call the breeder from her work but there was no answer at both numbers.
She will try to call again when she gets off work.
The breeder did give her a discount.
I told her what questions to as her.

My sister just emailed the breeder and is asking questions.
She did not answer the phone when she called.
My sister was told she does not have the rex coat and that is why there is a discount.

My Sister is still getting the kitten.
The final quote was after about 40 replies saying words (and I quote) RED flag, stop the payment, it's not a devon rex.

I'm not trying to being difficult I just have a hard time understanding why you're so shocked now it's not a DR even after all this advice? *shrugs*

So she is falsifying pedigrees, changing birth dates to suit herself?! WOW!

I don't know about posting that info here though? Might be safer not to.

I would be irked regardless of the amount. I know she was not expecting show/breeder quality, still kinda stinks. I do recall that thread and I remember it all being a mess.

I paid $775.00 for her and $250.00 for shipping that was with a $100.00 discount because she said she was going to be a shorty coat instead of wavy. She charges $875.00 for her devon rex kittens. It's not the fact that I'm shocked.I will learn from this mistake before buying from other breeders, also I had already sent this breeder money.I am new at buying a purebred so it's a lesson learned.I would just hope to prevent her from doing this to someone else.

Sorry but I agree, from the first photo's we all saw something was wrong.

There is something to be said for buyer beware.
