the clinics around here will spay/neuter @ 2 pounds. however, some 'old-school' vets won't do either that early. you should check w/your vet - if s/he won't do it prior to 6 months, then see if there's a clinic in your area that will do it earlier. spayusa is a good place to start looking. there's a link on the right to find clinics in your area [wherever that is].
Firefox went into heat @ 5 months, btw. so they can become sexually mature fairly early.

see, thats where I think I dropped the ball.......
sorry for the pun..

I was told that if you neuter a cat before he had reached maturity.. it would cause him medical problems down the line.. however ive since read more on the subject and apparently there is no documented evidence to back up that theory.

I have since read that if you get them neutered BEFORE they ever start spraying and .. whatever its called where they wander the house talking dirty.. then they never will, however if you do it after this starts, there is a chance it will not cease completely, but will indeed occur far less. Also the urine from spraying will be MUCH less potent.

again, this is what I read, ive read wrong things before.

definitely that latter! some cats will spray, even if neutered early, but most will not.

Two pounds? Jake was 2.1 pounds at 7 weeks...what about undescended testicles? It costs twice as much if they are not descended I found out...Will they be descended that early?

Maybe you have missed a spot or two that you hadn't thought of cleaning...try the wall and door where he's been spraying. I can tell you for certain they will spray vertical places.

The black light idea is a great one, almost bought one the other day. My boy doesn't spray though, but I do have 2 other fixed males in the house. I just thought for future LOL

Sending prayers and vibes that your cat stops his annoying behaviors and calm is restored to your home
You could try some extra-active play time each day followed by a big evening feed to help him release his pent-up energy and frustration. Sometimes it takes awhile for the hormones to calm down.
I have a country vet and she's old-school, too. She has told me that sometimes neutering males before puberty can contribute to urinary tract problems. So we waited to get JC done & it took him awhile to calm down. And he hadn't started spraying yet!
Bless you for hanging in there!

Just another thought -try not to be to angry at him for the spraying. He'll pick up on your frustration and get stressed out himself, making things worse. I know how hard that is - I've had problem kitties, plus raised 2 kids by myself without any extra support. If only I had TCS to come to during those days

If he does it in my bedroom, Ill put him in the microwave.
Ok, if you are so angry ant the cat, that you will actually hurt him, please give him away to a loving family before you do anything. By the way: Animal cruelty, just so you know, is a felony, punishable by not only a fine, but also jail time. Just an FYI.

I took that as a joke and almost posted without reading the rest of the replies and I feel assured that the original poster has got that sense of humour!

I had my 9 year old cat Elmo neutered when he was 14 weeks old and yes he still sprays, but I do have entire females in the house.

I sure hope so wellingtoncats... the posted sounded pretty angry to me... Anyway, if I took this the wrong way, my apologies. I really do wish you find a solution for this soon.

It might not be everyone's humor, but it's definitely humor. Relax, folks, this guy clearly cares for his cat.

By the way, Wingnutt, what kind of beer?

THIS will get the stench out of the carpet, or wherever it is:

2 cups hydrogen peroxide
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 drops of liquid dish soap

Mix all ingredients, soak the stinky area and allow to saturate for several hours or overnight. Blot any remaining moisture with paper towels and allow to dry thoroughly.

This is the only thing that I found that would work, and is MUCH less expensive than the pet store enzyme "cleaners" which I found useless.

UUggh,, this is reallly getting difficult, He kept me up all knight howling and scratching at the windows, this morning the first thing I see when I wake up is him squatting in the corner spraying the wall..

I actually think his behavior is getting worse since being neutered.

Perhaps you could talk to the vet and he could prescribe a temporary anxiety med for the kitty (Buspar comes to mind.) Also, sometimes people will have "post anesthesia psychosis or dementia" and he may have something like that going on as you said he is worse.

Sorry things are so rough. I had a sprayer for many years...I understand the horrible, helpless, maddening emotions.
