I am on these new pills for blood pressure after my heart surgery and now antibiotics for a horrible sinus infection. The blood pressure pills give me the worst restless legs I have ever had which I thought was the worst thing ever but the antibiotics are leaving this nasty medicine taste in my mouth ALL THE TIME! I take them at supper and a few hours later my mouth dries out and fills with this gross pill taste. It feels like I ate chalk and have an advil stuck in my mouth! EEEWWW! I can't stand another eight days of this and hopefully it goes away when I am done the pills. I have given in and now I am walking around with candy in mouth all the time and I find myself drinking juice to cover the taste rather than my usual water. Has anyone else ever had a medicine that gives you that nasty pill taste? GROSS!!

Let me guess? Clarithromycin? That will leave a tart grapefruit-like (my description) taste in your mouth until you stop taking it.

Robaxacet is another one that leaves a horrid taste. It's instant as soon as it touches your tongue. But it works wonders for my back pain so I put up with the awful taste.

Buckley's is another medicine that really does taste awful, and really does work!!

Make sure you take the entire prescription and don't stop because you "feel better."

i use to take ultram for pain management. once i somehow had a pill break in the bottle. but instead of throw it away i just took both chunks and the little pieces. I put them in my mouth, then turned on the fawcet to scoop some water out. I wasn't expecting the taste. When it hit I drank milk, juice, soda and even put Worcestershire sauce in my mouth to try to cover the taste. NOTHING worked.

I used liquid Iron before and the taste was so bad.
I tried mixing it in drinks but its still bad.
I should be using that iron now but I can not stand the taste so I use high dose iron pills.
I hope you feel better.

Yeah I have done antibiotics for my sinuses many times over the years. I have had my sinuses scrapped and packed three times and had antibiotics to follow up. This time I was sneezing out blood it was so bad. It hurts so much but I am now using a hot pepper extract spray that really clears everything out followed by a sea salt rinse!! It hurts when I use the spray and rinse but whatever gets this to stop always getting stuffed up and infected I am willing to endure!

Oh yuck!
I do feel sorry for you. It`s so annoying when that happens.

I used to take Zopiclone and that gave me a bitter taste in my mouth all day every day until I stopped taking it.

Most antibiotics taste bad. I can't remember which one it was that I had to take years ago when I had a stuck infected gallstone, but it tasted like something dead. Biaxin is pretty gross and causes a bitter metallic taste in your mouth as a side effect.

It's not pill, but I frequently have to take cholestyramine powder. It basically binds fat since I can't digest it very well. It's also used to help bind bacteria toxins. There's various brands and the stuff the hospital uses does not dissolve very well - so it's like drinking a gross orange mixture with the consistency of sand stirred up in water. I also hate oranges and anything orange flavored...
(Does anyone here take cholestyramine/questran in a pill form to lower cholesterol? I could have sworn it came in pill form too...)

Ursodiol is bitter. Ondansetron (zofran - anti nausea med) has a strong flavor and burns a bit as you let it dissolve on your tongue. Nitro tablets burn my mouth - and taste bad. Metronidazole is bitter. And liquid vancomycin is really really bitter.

You certainly know how your cat feels after you've had to take a nasty liquid antibiotic.

I've never noticed tramadol or acetaminophen tasting that bad. Salt tablets can be difficult to take, though they don't taste bad they tend to make a lot of people gag.

I was on a terrible tasting, uncoated pill once. I chased it with a small amount (tablespoon or two) of mint chip ice cream, and that seemed to do the trick. Probably not the healthiest option, but worked well enough for me to take it every day.

Clarithromycin!!! EEW! I had to take it for 10 days last month for a bad sinus infection and bronchitus. I had to keep drinking fluids all day to get the taste out of month. That is one medicine I will not enjoy taking ever again!!

Did anyone else have A Spoonful Of Sugar pop in their head while reading this post?

I just remembered - the last time I took Biaxin, surprisingly, I didn't really get much of that weird taste in my mouth. Maybe taking it a few times lessens that for some?

Ooh...been there! I had a bad allergic reaction to something a couple weeks ago and my doctor first put me on Medrol (a steroid) for it and that was NASTY!!! The Medrol didn't help so they gave me Prednisone and that was just as bad, if not worse! Fortunately the worst of it seemed to wear off within a half hour of taking it.

There was some antibiotic I took in September that was nasty. I can't remember which but my doctor chose that one because DH and I had sort of kind of been trying to conceive. (I think that's on the back burner for now.)

A discussion on another board I'm a member of turned to urticaria (hives), and how they're often caused by non allergic reactions. I had meant to send you a link or two, but forgot. http://www.uptodate.com/patients/con...o0Es/hsk&view#
The person who started the thread on the other board is sensitive to pressure, heat, and apparently now water. So it can have crazy causes.

(sorry, OT post
)
