Why not? I've had patients that have had severe nose bleeds and the doctor has asked if there are any tampons around. Work doesn't supply those on our supply cart, so I tend to carry a couple in my bag when I go to work, just in case.

Also, when someone develops Thrush in their mouth, a common treatment is to have them suck on one of those yeast infection tablets.

Also, most people I know use the same body wash to wash their privates as they do the rest of their body. And some who use bar soap use the same soap for their body as well as their face.

And Dettol a common household cleaner is often prescribed as an additive for a douche. And Vinegar, which you put on your french fries can be used to douche or even clean your toilet.

Why would anyone douche? The bacteria is there in the vagina for a reason. Here in NZ, we don't see any of those summer's eve stuff - I had never heard of douching until I went to the states and I had people asking me how often I did it.

I've been reading reviews on LiveJournal and Blogger and women actually LOVE it. I guess the biggest hurdle is getting over the initial reaction and trying it

I looked to see where I can get one.... and of course they're not in my city at all... I ordered mine online... if all goes well there, I might be ordering them for my daughters... I dont know... we'll see I guess.

I'll be the guinea and let ya'll know.

I've been using the Diva Cup for over a year. I absolutely love it and will never go back to tampons. I tried the disposable type, Insteads, but they leaked.

There is a learning curve with the Diva Cup; it will leak if not inserted properly. If it is in right there is a seal with the cervix and only an overflow will cause it to leak.

It can be a hassle to empty in public rest rooms, but I made up a little kit with tissues and wet wipes in a baggie, so it isn't that difficult and really no more embarrassing than changing a tampon. Some people bring in a bottle of water to rinse it with, but I haven't found that to be necessary. My biggest issue with the public rest room changing is it can make suction cup noises.

I have a very heavy second day and that is the only day where I need to empty it more than every 12 hours. Otherwise, I change it during my shower and one other time per day.

You do need to be aware of your own anatomy and be comfortable touching yourself.

If there are any other questions I'd be more than happy to address them - I really love my Diva Cup and wish I had started using one years ago.

I have been considering trying it. Maybe I will this time around. I wish my periods were more predictable though...

A few years back, I was in a bar, and this chick came up to me telling me how wonderful that her cup was and how I should try one. She was showing everyone who would listen...of course, she was extremely drunk

In the UK I know they're called mooncups.... I was planning on getting one when I'm there next month and seeing how good they are. It could save SOOOOO much money in the long run! Sarahp - I agree - it is gross being female - it's also ridiculously expensive! Why should it cost so much to have to suffer a natural process the way we do?! Periods - gross, painful and pricey. Childbirth - grossy beautiful, painful and pricey. Hrmn.... lemme think - I think I'll take a chance at making at least one of those things slightly less gross, painful and pricey!

IMO pads are the grossest form of monthly sanitary protection. I mean think about it. You have a pad full of your erm, "stuff" just there in your panties getting all squished around. Yucky.

I've had good luck with the disposable ones once I learned how to get them in and I'm thinking about buying a diva cup (but I'm not sure which size
so that's holding things up a bit). You just can't be squeamish about touching yourself or you'll never get it in right

The disposables were only really messy on my heavy flow days, and I would just tip it out if and put it back in during the day. I also tend to go to the gym at lunch, so I would take it out in the shower and rinse it off (sorry if that's TMI).

I don't worry about germs because the vagina is a self cleaning organ and I'm only using this 5 days or so a month.

And I agree about pads being far more gross...like wearing a diaper!

I can't even stand thin little panty liners. I don't like having the feeling of anything extra in my underwear.

I couldn't agree more - pads are just sooooooo gross!! They're uncomfrotable, squishy and they smell awful!
Not to mention that they never stay where you put them! And these new thingies with wings? That just means there more of the stuff to flap around and get knotted up and leak! EEEEW!!

I am so glad this thread is running. I'll read it all at work. I've been thinking about using a Diva Cup for a while now, and I want to read some reviews.

Size 1 is for women under 30 and never had children. If you've given birth or are over 30, go for a Size 2.

I love this thread!
It's so funny!

I will be interested in knowing how they work! I'm surprized no one on here has used it yet! I wouldn't be totally against using it, but I would like to know how messing and how safe from accidents it really is. I use the Nuva Ring for BC and a lot of gals I talk to say "ew you have to put it in yourself!!!" Um....yes.....?
