that's all i've ever used. Pixel's gotten small patches before, & so have i. i used OTC vaginal yeast cream, 'cause i had it in the house already. worked great.
now, Firefox - she had to have baths, but that was mainly for the bacterial skin infection, not the ringworm [they said she had both]. the shampoo was rated for use on both problems.

Geez Glitch - I don't know why you're having to go thru all of that just for ringworm.
When Geronimo caught a case of it not long after we adopted him, all I had to do was apply some kind of ointment to the affected areas twice a day for about two weeks. It cleared up really nicely, and he never had a reoccurrance, either.
Also, none of the other cats caught it, and neither did my s/o or I. Can you ask your vet if there's another alternative? I can't imagine giving 3 cats a bath twice a day for all that time.

I think I still have some of that ointment leftover: if you want to know what the name of it is, let me know and I'll try to locate if for you...

Good luck!

Those of you who got away with just ointment are lucky.

In a multi-person/multi-pet household it is hard to treat & contain. You could go in circles treating it with kitties re-infecting cats that have already had it.

Yeah, It feels like Im going in circles! HoboJax spot of it is all gone, I still put the cream on him twice a day, and bath him every other though.

Eek has it the worst! Todays spot count was 6!! All above the neck! It seems to be painfull too! (I didn't know it hurt them)
I go to put the cream on it, or try to count spots to see if its getting better or worse and if I get anywhere near the spot he runs around the house crazy like! He pulls his head away from me, and just goes nuts!

And rumour has it that if I burn a brown paper bag and put the ash on him that it will clear it up?? Something about Iodine?? I dont know, Im pretty leary about doing it though, my DH wants to, saying thats how he treated it when he was a kid and had it! I dont know! They got to be at the vet to nueter about 8-9 am on thursday and I might get them checked out before doing anything just to be safe! I can tell you one thing though, if one cant get neutered they both have to wait! I know that its so much easier to heal together! Eek is my main one I want nuetered right now.... I have them both scheduled, but if Eek can't, Jax is going to have to wait too! I know it sounds terrible, but they're so close that I dont want to break that bond!

Eek is tolerating everything pretty well, but I think that it hurts more than I can imagine! He isn't losing any weight, sleep, or food out of the deal though!
Soon as I can figure out a way to treat well diferently Im going too!

KittKat~ Whats the name of that medicine?? Is it conofite?? Thats what I have so far, along with bathing them in Paragaurd 4 times a week! Any better options would be good to know! So far I know on thursday that he's going to get an oral medication too, because it seems to be spreading like wild fire!

Just don't do anything unless you run it by your vet first. Better safe than sorry.

Alright now my Gma's dog Wilson has what looks like the same thing, she takes him into the exact same vet that I use and they say he has a bacterial infection! It looks so the same, and they have been around each other so I dont know about that! But she got oral meds! How come they didn't give them to me right away?? What kinda crap is that??!!

I just talked to the vet, they're going to get a better look at things while he's under anestheshia tomarrow! So hopefully they can figure out something!

The name of it is Clotrimazole; I got it from my vet. However, it's only to be used on cats - not humans (I don't know if you can use it on dogs, though
).

It wouldn't hurt to check with you vet to see if he carries the stuff, or what he recommends. It sure couldn't hurt to try...

My heart goes out to you.
You've had so much to deal with in the past few months - first with the FIP, and now this.
You are such a good Meowmy, going through all of what you've been having to deal with with all your furbabies.
I hope things get better for you soon!

It seems to me that the vets always try to solve the problem with the shampoos and creams before prescribing the oral medications. I was lucky that the LymSulphur dips took care of the problem, but my next step was going to be the oral medications.

I've been battling ringworm in my 5 kitties for awhile now too. I finally went today and picked up the oral meds. We'd been trying Keto-Chlor shampoo and ointment, but I had a really hard time getting them all bathed frequently enough, and it seemed that as soon as one lesion would clear up, another one would appear.

One trick my vet mentioned to me is to put betadine on the lesions. He cautioned me though, that the betadine will stain, so if you put it on your cat and then the cat laid on your furniture, you might end up with a yellow stain on your upholstery.

Good luck!

Trinity had ringworm really bad right after I brought her home and she gave it to me (I had a horrible case of it, at least 20 spots!). We did the lymsulpher dips and they worked for her. The vet actually did them even. She smelled like a match after the baths too though so I suspect that the stuff you are using probably has some of the same ingredients in it. Another thing that my vet also suggested was garlic oil. I know garlic is bad for cats but so are a lot of the oral medications they would prescribe and my vet told me that he had quite a bit of experience using it as a ringworm cure in the shelter he used to work for. You might ask your vet if she has any experience with it.

What oral meds did you get?

It's called Griseofulvin. The doses are in soft, chewy tabs instead of pills. They are supposed to be tuna and chicken flavored, so the kitties might even think they are treats!
They are to get a dose every 12 hours, preferably with a wet meal for better absorption.

The meds were actually about half the cost I was originally told - I paid about $360 for a 6 week course for 5 cats, and I don't think $72 per cat is that bad. It will be completely worth it if this ringworm goes away!

The vet did say there is a small risk of some kind of depression of blood cell production, so he said it might not be a bad idea to do a blood count in a couple weeks. Not sure if I can do $that$ on all 5 of them at the moment (if none of them seem to be having problems, of course) since Bastian and Griffin are also getting shots this week, but we'll see. He said it is an uncommon complication.

Yeah, the ringworm sure sucks... I hope after this battle that things will go smoothly for a while!

To make it worse the countdown has started! We are at less than twelve hours to their nueter! Im so nervous for them, and they know somethings up! They're just walking around looking at me like what is going on here?!?!
I feel bad for them! I can't believe Jax is all cleared up and Eek is still getting the spots! Totally terrible... I just want everything to go away! They seem so young to be getting neutered, but I know its best to do it now, no matter how young they may seem to be! So wish me luck, at 8am I am bringing them in! The vets going to have a looksie at Eek while he's under so he's got a better grasp on things!

Alright, so I went to check on my kitties Eek and HoboJax and possibly bring them home because I didn't think it would do them any favors being left there over night and well Eek looked terrible! The scraped away some of the ringworm while he was under hoping it would help it clear up! So he now has bald red bleeding spots all over his head! He was soaked to the bone too! I can't believe they had him in that cage all cold and wet like that! I brought him his favorite blanket so they are more comfortable! I get to pick them up in the morning. I figured with Eek looking as awful as he does it be best if he stayed. Jax is a whole nother story though! He tried to jump off the table! He doesn't even know his bits n pieces are gone! I hope that all the scraping of Eeks head helps! It would be awful if they scraped it for nothing! I guess its a wait and see!

at any rate I hope it all helps. I wonder... will his fur grow back on the spots they scraped?
