The Wire, opinions?

We rented The Wire tonight, first season. We've watched 3 episodes and I'm starting to like it more. However, I'm not positive I really like it. Has anyone watched it and what is your opinion. Will I grow more attached to it?

Watched another episode after i wrote that post. I'm getting more familiar with the characters and am therefore more into it. Still it's not grabbing me like some shows such as Rome, 24 or 6ft Under. It's well written and I'm sure very realistic, but I'm not totally grabbed by if you know what I mean.

John is addicted to it, he brought one some Season last night from his cousins, he told me I'd like it- I haven't watched any of it yet.

We finished watching the Wire. I quite enjoyed it in the end. We rented the next season today.
I'll admit, we sometimes had to display the subtitles to understand what some of the characters were saying!
