Emily, I am SO truly happy for you & Brian! Make sure you read up on intros, just so you know about "normal" kitty behaviors, this way you can educate Brian a little. Tom was so spazzing out when LuckyGirl would bop the kitten in the head, or they would play bite & stuff like that....he wanted to take him back. And LuckyGirl would make this really mean nasty look at the baby with her ears back and make herself real tall and look down on him....the kitten would try to make himself as flat as possible on the floor (submissing to her "top catness"
)....DH really worried about all of this, but I kept sayin this is normal, as long as there's no blood or fur missing, and he's not really getting beat up, all this finding themselves and their position on the totem pole is normal kitty behaviors....so make sure you are prepared, cause the 1st 2 weeks I was protecting Louie most of the time. I was worried he would feel unloved having just came from his momma & 5 siblings, and now, all he wanted to do was play & love LuckyGirl & she wanted NOTHING to do with him! So I gave him extra love from momma.... and now he doesn't want much to do with me!

here's what I mean:

see how he's down real low, beneath her, but still giving her the death glare back? Be patient Emily, it will take time....hopefully Anya will be more receptive than my little girl who has had such a tough life so far....she didn't want to share her family.

It was hard. In fact we didn't really pick. We told them we preferred a little girl, but they were all so adorable whichever one they wanted to place with us would be fine.
They decided on the sweet little girl that we held for the longest at the event. She's quiet and snuggley (she was a little scared to be there). I told them I was worried that if that was her 24/7 personality tht Anya would bully her. They told me that she had been in their home with several grown cats and 3 litters of kittens. She could edfinitely get in there and play with the best of them and hold her own.

It would be really nice to have a snuggler.

OH- And LuckyGirl/Heather, I've been doing my reading. I've read the intro threads here as well as on the site that the adoption agency has. Theirs is basically the same with a few different twists. They suggest rubbing your smellly gym socks on the cats so they all smell like YOU.
I understand their idea and point, but then all my cats will smell like feet.
I think I'll stick with the blanket/toy trade and vanilla.

I'm also going to forward this thread and the intro ones' links to Brian to read on his down time at work.

Thanks for the heads up and photos though. That might have freaked me out had you not warned me.

yeah, DH was pretty peeved she was acting that way, he was so worried we were upsetting her, he'd say 10 times a day, "take him back, she doesn't like him!" I kept telling him give it 30 days, if she still hates him in 30 days, I will find a new home for him, I don't want her to be upset either....now they are the best buds... of course little brothers are still bothersome, when a princess is trying to nap, and they tackle her.....
most the time she gives him a dirty look and walks into the bedroom to take a nap....

Having just done the introduction process twice with Ginger and Mojo, my advice is to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Even though the new baby will have a clean bill of health, keep her separated from Anya for a few days. This allows the baby to get accusomed to her new world, including her new parents, and it allows Anya to start getting used to the idea that there is another kitty in her world. And be prepared for noises that you've never heard before! Oh my goodness, there have been a lot of hisses and growls and even screams (Ginger is VERY vocal when she's unhappy!), but thus far, aside from some minor happenstance scratches, there haven't been any major physical altercations. Even Ophelia is starting to come around more.

Congrats! I'm so glad they picked you.
Do you have any ideas for names yet?

It's my understanding, since Brian talked to them, that they are calling us today to set up a day and time to deliver her to our home.

I'm guessing they will call in the evening again, after work, like they did yesterday. They wanted to observe her for a day to make sure she doesn't get a cold. I guess since the other kitties are getting colds they are anxious to move her to a non-sick environment.

Either way she'll be isolated from Anya so we should be okay there.

Brian gets to decide since I named Anya. I have thrown out a couple that he really didn't like. I think he has settled on one that I'm hesitant about. It's cute, but I would never imagine naming a cat this. I'm unsure about how people will react to her name...

We're still in discussions, and I'll let you all know when we settle on something.
