Tanya !!!!!! I had to build my nerves to do it, too. I dont know why, but I did. For some reason after I did it that first time I felt a sense of accomplishment

Have fun shopping, you can never go wrong doing that!

I used to be really self-conscious about going to a restaurant by myself but I am used to it. I feel a lot less odd at lunch time than I do going out by myself at dinner though. I just try to remember to take something along to read so I don't sit there like a bump on a log. Going to a movie by myself is no problem. A lot of people think it's a big deal that I travel alone but since I'm single I don't know who I'm supposed to travel with LOL. I've seen a lot of the country that I wouldn't have seen if I had sat at home waiting for somebody to go with me. So get out there ladies! Go have lunch by yourself.

I've never eaten out by myself. I don't think there's anything wrong with it; I just think I'd feel weird.

Very good advice.

I'd quite happily go to a bar with a good book or newspaper but I wouldn't go to a restaurant on my own...

...because I'm tight with money and it would be a shame for my wife to miss out on a good meal

I've seen people on their own in restaurants and don't feel its weird, I think that Schwarze Cat has a good point

When you see someone eating alone, is this what you think of them? I doubt you do, and neither does anyone else
Next time just be brave...what is the worst thing that could happen?

I don't have any difficulty going to a restaurant alone. I take a book. I used to do that every day at lunch time -- got expensive buying lunch every day, so I stopped doing it. But it was a good break in the middle of the day, and I deliberately went alone most days, in order to turn off the office completely. (Nowadays, I come here to get my head out of the office.
Costs less. I don't get wet. Fun, too.
)

I also took myself out for dinner from time to time when I was still on my own and just wanted to be pampered a bit. Same thing: take a book.

I eat alone at a restaurant quite often. I travel quite a bit for business, so it's either go out alone or just sit in my hotel room. I'd much rather get out and see a bit of wherever I am. It used to make me feel a bit awkward, but I'm over it. I bring a book or something to read, but frequently end up people watching or getting into a conversation with someone.

Is it strange to go eat alone? I could get take out, but not spending time away from the office makes for a long day.
I frequently eat alone. Nothing wrong with that. You have to eat

Take a book or a magazine with you if you like

It bothered me years ago, but since I travel to the U.S. every year, mostly alone, I've gotten used to it. I always take reading material, though.

Mmm, I say go for it, but for myself I feel uncomfortable with the idea of it.

I do, however, go see movies by myself all the time....just because it's dark and there's no awkward silence.
