Not poisonous garden plant (vine plant / espalier)

You are correct in saying that you cannot control what your cats can get into when they leave your yard so, if you truly  want to be "safe not sorry" and you are looking to protect  your cats, you should keep them on your own property. If you cannot, you should build a cat enclosure so that you...

    FIC in an FIV

I have a cat who is FIV+ and has recently had trouble with urinary issues. He was going to the litter box often but would not produce much, if any urine. When I took him the vet, the first time, he was not blocked and a urine sample was taken and sent to the lab. The urine sample was red with...

Weird reddish bald patches on my cat's back leg. Any idea what it could be?

Good news! I am glad to hear it!

    Injured feral in our colony-help!

Reba...WOW! That is really powerful and well said. I agree with you. How do you think I ended up with 22 cats, three of which have FIV? The rescues only take cats they rescue from "high kill" shelters. So what is a private citizen to do? Keep the cats/animals, even if they know they cannot...

Weird reddish bald patches on my cat's back leg. Any idea what it could be?

I was responding to toricb's post. He or she had a concern about ringworm. And, respectfully, you do not know if it is or is not ringworm, just like I do not know for sure. It is toricb who took the cat to the vet and I will have to wait for toricb to tell us what the vet said. If the vet had...

All 6 feral cats have stopped eating

Also, if you can get some colloidal silver to add to wet food or watering bowls, this might help. Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic, antifungal, anti everything, from what I have read. Snugglecat, where do you live? I struggle with worry, like you do. I guess it just takes a conscious...

All 6 feral cats have stopped eating

Do you feed in plastic bowls? Sometimes animals will have an allergy to plastic and it will cause lower lip swelling. Switch to ceramic or metal bowls or plates and see if that helps.

    Injured feral in our colony-help!

These are sad stories, for sure. I also have one about Winston who showed up at my house two Decembers ago. I discovered him huddled in a cat bed I had provided for other outside, neighborhood cats one day as I headed out for work. He was a big, un-neutered tom who was very friendly. So I...

    Injured feral in our colony-help!

I actually have three cats from the neighborhood that have tested positive for FIV.  I have a different situation than you do so I choose to keep all three. One is very friendly and so I do let him mingle with some senior and shy cats I have in the back part of my house. The other two will live...

Kitten does not like wet food

I have a 6 or 7 month old kitten that does not seem to like wet food. She was a kitten from a feral mother that I caught at about 7 or 8 weeks. Other kittens I have caught have been fairly easy to tame since they are food driven. But, this one does not seem to be like them. She is offered both...

Enriching the former-outdoor cat's indoor life

I just noticed this thread was started and added to back in 2009. I guess I should notice the dates before I post. But, the suggestions I made are still good! Hope they help someone.

Enriching the former-outdoor cat's indoor life

You could use these wire modular shelving units to make a small enclosure. Don't use the connectors it comes with. Use zip ties instead. I used these to make a rabbit enclosure. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $20 for the box. You could also attach these to a wooden frame. Or use a...

    Injured feral in our colony-help!

I hope Blackie is doing better. I agree with others that, if she is eating and drinking, she is probably going to be ok. I had a feral cat at my house that was limping and holding his paw up for a couple of weeks. About that time I was able to trap him to get him neutered. I had the doctor look...

My Mom is always looking for something new...

This is Stanley's mother...They were all found cats. I know it is a lot. I acknowledge that. That is why I am looking for enrichment ideas. Does anyone have any ideas?

Weird reddish bald patches on my cat's back leg. Any idea what it could be?

Does your cat go outside? While you are waiting for the cultures to come back, which takes about 2 weeks, you will need to start something..especially if it does turn out to be ringworm. Start using the Gentizol on it or get some athlete's foot medication and put that on a couple of times a day...
