    Chicago Bound!

I know I don't post often and don't share much... but we are moving from Phoenix, AZ to Chicago, IL in May for graduate school! I'm wicked excited and NERVOUS! Have I said how excited I am?! Anyway, there are still some kinks in figuring out how to get it all organized. Like where we will stay...

    Best Travel Carrier for Cats

So, I got into graduate school. I will either be moving to Chicago, Seattle or Buffalo, NY from Phoenix, AZ. We have two cats (Lola is about 6 pounds and Maddie is about 9) that will obviously be coming with us. Right now, we have two hard carriers for the trip, but I'm not feeling too...

4 ten day old kittens. Come watch me grow!

These little guys, about 10 days old, were left in a dumpster tied in a t-shirt today. We tried our local animal shelters, with no luck (they are too young). Now, we have some little guys to help grow up so they can be adopted. They are so beautiful. We named them Elvis, Skittles, Socrates, and...

    Lola & Maddie (5 pics)

I don't post often--but wanted to take a minute to share pics of our two kitties. Lola is the orange tabby. She's 2. She's about 6 pounds and once-upon-a-time was feral. She's healthy, fixed, and up-to-date on her shots. She protects the printer, loves buttered toast, and we nicknamed her...

    Uh, I need help shopping

I have an internship coming up. It is at our state Coalitiion to End Homelessness. I am super excited and wish I could start tomorrow. However... here's the dilemma. I am the poster child for tom boy. I own nothing other than jeans/shorts/t-shirts and flip-flops, sandals. However, obviously I...

    Toilet Paper

Our lovely near 2-year old feline, Maddie, has taken to destroying toilet paper recently. Entire rolls while it is on the roll on the wall. She shreds most of it so there is no saving it either. We buy the expensive stuff too (ahhh!). Any ideas how to fix this? It usually happens in the guest...

    Rear-ended 2x in 5 weeks. Jeebus. (vent)

I'm so sick of driving. If I never do it again, it will be too soon. Backstory. We traded our 05 xTerra with 92k miles late October for an 07 Caliber with 42k miles and every option available. It was a straight trade--we owned the truck and we own this one. We traded because we could not...

I don't usually post personal things. Need to vent...

I don't usually do this. And this post may make no sense at all, I am sorry. I will attempt to give a bit of a back story. Last March (2010) I was hospitalized for 10 days. 8 in ICU, almost 3 of those on a respirator and tube fed. I had double pneumonia despite getting all the preventative...

Need a wet food recommendation (specifics involved)...

I believe my kitties are getting sick of their wet food. Currently they eat Natural Balance Salmon and Green Pea kibble and wet food. One has allergies (intolerance's) and they won't eat apart. It's been tried and it's useless. Needless to say, we need to try another flavor of the wet food...

    Should we be worried?

I doubt it but I thought I'd ask anyway. Lola, our orange tabby (utd/spayed) will, at least once a day, either fall out of the window or run and try to jump on something and miss it. I think she was just so passed out at the window she fell. Or so excited so just miscalculated the chair she...

2 behavior issues. Someone please help us.

Both cats are 1 year old. 1) Is rather pissy to anyone aside from us. Even hisses at UPS guy. We have tried Feliway without success. Nothing has changed... everything is regularly scheduled programming. This poses a huge problem as we are going out of town soon and she's mean to pet sitters :-(...

Lola loves her Maddie (30 sec vid)

This is the most precious video to me. Lola cleans Maddie. Since Lola was feral, this is a huge feat for her.

    Anyone here a vegetarian/vegan?

I am curious about this. Is anyone here a vegetarian or vegan? If a vegetarian -- who DO you eat? Some veggies eat fish, no red meat but other meats, no meats but will use dairy and eat cheese. I am a vegetarian (no meat--at all. Only digest diary when cooked in something and not solely like...

Help me save my electrical cords!

My kitten chews everything-particularly cords. I'm sure you know hoe expensive they run. I hide them as many as I can, when I can (wait to charge my Mac till I'm awake since those run $80). I've wrapped them in electrical tape but many if the cord is ruined, so is the item. I've seen the cable...

    My babies turn one!

Oh my goodness... I'm so excited. I just want to cry. My dear babies turn one (March 19th and 24th). We have had Lola since she was five or so weeks old and she was abandoned in our neighborhood. About a month later after realizing Lola was rather brutal on us, we adopted Maddie from a shelter...

    Prescription Food online for cheaper?

We purchased Royal Canin rabbit wet food today. $50/24 cans. At 2 kittens, this would be $100+ a month. Anyone suggestions? We have tried to feed them separately and it has not been successful. The rabbit food is scripted for one kitty but the other kitty won't eat without the other. Ideas?

7 month old has irritable bowel

My baby, Lola, who is 7 months old has irritable bowel... she was taken to the vet last Saturday (10/16) and was given this diagnosis. I feel so awful for her. They gave her a shot and some medication in a syringe to give (thankfully). They stated she may need more shots but I am eternally...

    Random mildly runny poos

Lola, my 7 month old DSH, has on again off again runny poos. They are not terribly runny nor does she ever miss the box... but I am still curious as to whether anyone might know why? It's been over a month since her last episode and it just started again today. Never lasting for more than a...

Switching babies to schedule instead of grazing

Anyone have a schedule of feeding recommendation? Currently they graze but we feel it is time to get them on a schedule. I was thinking 2x a day, but what hours are good? We usually wake up pretty early. We also give a bit of wet food usually about our dinner time. But not too much. Ideas?

What are your important beliefs in your life?

I am in an (online) philosophy class this semester. A question was recently asked... What are some important beliefs in your life? -- This is my response with a few bits of humor... keep in mind... a lot of subjects were already addressed (like the existence or lack thereof of God in your...
