    Traveling with cats

Moving to Michigan believe it or not. He's good with the harness, that's not a problem. I got off the sturdi-shelter web site. I LIKEY the 3 part one. It could go all across the back seat. Litter box in one end and food and water in the other end. Too many $$, I'm afraid. I wonder if anyone...

    Traveling with cats

Do you travel with a regular litter box, with regular litter? Man! I would be really scared that he might get loose. He can move real fast if he wants to and he is a big and strong cat too. I don't think I could stop him if he wanted to get past me and out the door. Cat lost and gone from a...

    Traveling with cats

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Do they make a nylon tent like thing that would take up most of the back seat? What do you keep them in when you are at the show? Is the big carrier you mention a cage for a dog? Do you put a harness on them and leash them when the door is open to their...

    Traveling with cats

Hi, Might you take the time to tell me what it is like to travel to and from shows with cats? Tell me how you prepare the cats for travel, how you house them, feed them and provide litter opportunities. How do you care for them at the shows? We'll be traveling across the country by car with an...

    2400 miles by car

Been gone a few days. Thanks for the reply. Your plan sounds do-able, I guess. By that I mean I have a few concerns. Like, did you mean what I think you meant by writing "usually used the litter?" This concerns me plenty. It would make me real unhappy if he managed to do his biznizz on the...

    Cat wheel

I think if he was an Ocicat or a Bengal he would be all over it. But he's a Maine Coon and I'm afraid he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. I've coaxed him with food and toys. I've tried all kinds of things. He isn't really afraid of it. He just doesn't want anything to do with it. I've seen...

    Cat wheel

I made a cat wheel. 4 foot diameter steel framed wheel, spinning on a real trailer axle hub, on a heavy tube steel frame with adjustable coaster feet. The tread is probably a foot wide and made from 1/8 thick plastic. It's a fairly awesome thing if I do say myself. However... The cat doesn't...

    2400 miles by car

Hi, Haven't been on here in a couple of years I guess. Too long. Anyway, eventually we'll be moving and I don't know what to do. I have a 17 lb. Maine Coon and we would be making the trip across the country by car. 2400 miles. That's a long way. It's gonna be the better part of 3 days, I...

OK, so how do you actually trim a cats nails?

This cat (six months old) needs his nails trimmed but won't allow me to hang on to his feet long enough to get it done. What do I do. I got to get him used to this. Will this get easier after he's neutered? I wish I had 3 hands when I bathe him or trim his nails. It's a pain in the neck. How...

    What killed this cat?

Necropsy on 2 year old Maine Coon stated he died of heart failure caused by elevated Potassium levels caused by a UTI. No indication of a problem from the cat. Fine one day and gone the next. Ever hear of such a thing?

    Maine Coons and HCM

Yes, Maine Coons and Ragdolls are currently the two types of cat for which a DNA marker has been identified for HCM. The breeder that I've been working with is out of town, not checking her emails remotely, and unreachable by me till I don't know when. I've been sending her emails for several...

    Maine Coons and HCM

Both parents have been screened for the markers and both have been checked before breeding for the disease by a cardiologist. All negative. I'll call the breeder tomorrow and see what's up. Anyone know how long it takes for a cat autopsy? I don't want to bother her till I'm reasonably sure...

    Maine Coons and HCM

I have been looking for a Maine Coon cat for quite some time. I am working with a breeder here who has been very helpful. She is very concerned with HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) in the Maine Coon breed. Because she has no cats available to me at this time I have been looking elsewhere and...

Preventing Kittens from becoming Road Kill

Leash laws apply to cats as well as dogs and any other pets a person might own. Confined on your property, or on a leash or otherwise contained if off your property. Pretty simple really.

    How to assure maximum growth

I will probably free feed dry food. I've done that with several animals in the past without any issues. I still haven't picked a brand to use, but I'm leaning towards Blue Buffalo. Spraying after neutering?! I thought that was one of the main reasons to get a male cat fixed. So there is a...

    Adequate exercise

I don't know about two cats... I don't think that is an option. I work 10 hour days too, but do my 40 hours in 3 days. The guy will be by himself when I'm not home, and I'm not sure I can do anything about it. I will probably free feed dry food. I've done that with several animals in the past...

    Adequate exercise

Thanks for the replies. Good advice. I would like to have two cats but I'm not so sure my landlord would like it. I don't think I want to push that issue. The lazer pointer is a great idea. I'm gonna get one of those. I think it would keep the cat busy and it meshes well with my lazy nature too!

    Cat wheels

I might try to make one. I saw this one a while ago while searching around on the nets, but at the time didn't realize it was on this forum. I also saw one someone made that only turned one way and it indexed another wheel that would drop a few treats after many turns of the big wheel. It looks...

    Cat wheels

Anyone have any experience with these. It's like a hamster wheel but big enough for a cat to use. Any other ideas to get a cat to exercise by itself.
