I'd definitely take him in for some bloodwork at least. I've taken the "wait and see" approach in the past and then regretted it when it turned out to be something that would have been more easily treated (and less expensive) if caught earlier.

Thanks for the links, Denice.  Hopefully I can get him to transition to canned food this way.  I wonder what would be the best kibble to eat in the meantime though, since the SO is acidifying!  I'm currently feeding him 1/4 cup of the SO kibble and then whatever he will eat of the canned.

So my cat Charlie survived his urinary blockage and bladder surgery!  How can I stop this from happening again? He was already on Royal Canin SO dry food except for a brief stint of eating Fancy Feast about a month ago.  I will find out exactly what kind of stones he had in about 2-3 weeks but...

Thanks, Susan.   I'm reading up about the PU surgery and it seems like most vets don't recommend it on the first blockage, but apparently he has a stone IN his urethra that may be stuck there?

Thank you so much for the response, but I got an ultrasound done on him today and turns out he has a pretty aggressive cancer in both his intestines and kidney :(  The vet is going to come by tomorrow to euthanize him before he gets any worse.  Thank you anyway for the encouragement.

thanks GoldenKitty! yeah I wasn't so sure about the flushing part... I think you are right not to risk it. But is it easy to clean out the wet parts of the litter with this stuff? I think that is my odor problem - i scoop the poop several times a day.

I have a serious litter odor problem with three cats in a one bedroom apartment and the clumping and flushable stuff just seems so expensive. Not to mention air purifiers. Someone recommended useing "pellet fuel" and said that it is cheap and flushable? Has anyone tried this?
