How do you cope with having an aging furry friend?

I read a comment somewhere years ago how someone had regrets about not playing enough with their cat. It really impacted my relationship with my own cat and I was very mindful about the way I treated her since. Lots of play, never being angry with her, giving plenty of attention. Its really...

    Fostering after loss

I didn't even realize that long term fosters can be years... thought it would be a couple months, half year. Another thing to think about! Actually maybe they could use me for short term if another one of their foster parents goes on vacation or something around the holidays, and their foster...

    Fostering after loss

Adults and seniors, but not palliative. I've never fostered before so I'd want to start with friendly/easy cats and maybe work my way up to ones that are recovering after surgery, have special needs, need a little extra help. I found a rescue that takes on a lot of these cases, my first cat...

    Fostering after loss

I'm considering fostering after losing my kitty recently, wondering if anyone went through this and has advice. My kitty passed away a week ago, she was 22 years old and had been dealing with terminal illness for a long time. It hasn't been long and I miss her and am still going through her...

    Not grieving hard enough, why?

I just spoke to our vet (not the one who did the euthanasia) and they walked me through what we experienced. It wasn't ideal and they would have wanted to do things differently, but they said that my cat wouldn't have felt the convulsions, and that the twitching after the sedation was not from...

    Not grieving hard enough, why?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I got mine when she was 17 and in bad condition, and after the first vet visit she was diagnosed with CKD. When I first got her I thought she would maybe stay a few days or weeks, with how skinny and she was. But she bounced back and we had 5 more years...

    Not grieving hard enough, why?

Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad that this is not abnormal. A friend had described the first 4/5 days as extremely difficult, and the following months as hard but gradually getting easier. So far this isn't my experience. I think I needed to hear that this isn't wrong or abnormal. There...

    Not grieving hard enough, why?

I had to put my cat to sleep a few days ago. The day of and the day after, were devastating. Now I'm almost okay, it feels too easy? She was very old when she passed and had CKD, and a lot of other issues. The passing itself was traumatic. It was horrible, it didn't look like the peaceful...

    Discountinue Medication?

Hi! Sorry, I haven't logged in in a while and just saw this. She's doing great! Her face is healing, she has little hairless spots there now but there's no open wounds. We saw the vet, but she was already on the mend by the time we got there so they didn't really do anything. And I got her on...

Face Lesions but no idea why?!

That was when she had it for 7 to 10 days and then stopped? For us, we did a full 18 days out of a 21-day prescription before the reaction showed up. And she also completely skipped the more common vomiting / gastrointestinal side-effects and went straight to the facial lesions.

Does D-Mannose affect other supplements/medication if mixed?

Hi. I'm planning to start giving my cat D-Mannose and the easiest way would be through food. I also give aluminum hydroxide powder with all of her food, and the vet isn't sure if the D-Mannose may degrade its effectiveness if they're mixed. She suggested giving them separately, but I don't know...

Face Lesions but no idea why?!

My cat had a very similar reaction to amoxicillin (not sure if Noroclav label specifically, but same thing). Facial lesions on cheeks, looking a lot like your photos. I did a full stop on that medication and now they're clearing up. If your vet is seeing a reaction and prescribing more of the...

    Discountinue Medication?

It hasn't gotten better, but it hasn't gotten worse either which feels like good news. I hope when the amoxicillin passes out of her system it'll start healing. She's grooming and eating like normal, and doesn't seem to be in pain. She's even grooming her face. I haven't tried the tea yet, just...

    Discountinue Medication?

They did a urine culture, I don't recall the name of the bacteria or if they mentioned it. They said it has resistance to the previous medication that we tried and that the amoxicillin should work. Also that we should be concerned that it may start affecting the kidneys, but didn't call it a...
