Two difficult to care for cats

Following my post, I do admire your efforts and so hope this works out for you. Senior kitties are often difficult to transition. I just adopted a senior rescue and it is hard to make her world comfortable.

Two difficult to care for cats

I am writing this with a bit of hesitation but I couldn't help but notice a few comments in your post. Please allow me to preface by saying that while I am a newbie on this site, I've had a kitty family for over 20 years. FWIW, I also have a PhD in Psychology and for those who are not aware...

    Memory loss? Vision loss?

Correction... I misread another post. I don't believe anyone else has made this suggestion.

    Memory loss? Vision loss?

Like others have suggested, get another vet. Your Dr. isn't listening to you so why continue to pay for service you aren't getting and in the meantime, letting the problem go unevaluated and/or undiagnosed.

Do you vaccinate your indoor cats?

My indoor girls get them if they happen to be at the vet at the right time but otherwise no. One is ancient and the other two pee and yowl the entire time during the cat carrier/car experience. They aren't even allowed on the screen porch so there is almost zero risk of exposure to anything.

    My Typing Kitty!

For some reason, cats love to crawl on computers --much the same way they will plop on the newspaper while you are reading. We had the same issue with a new cat and found cord covers at Home Depot so at least there is some barrier. They are fairly thick plastic.

    Moving and behavior

Don't worry---their personalities affect they way they adjust and how fast it happens. Have had quite a few kitties moved with me over the years. Most had no issues but one would go into a deep depression, hiss at us and act as though the world ended. She always came around. Hang in there.

LOL--smoke detectors...you are reading my mind. Always so safety conscious with the kitties around. Had ours checked when I first put the diffusers in use.

    traveling w cats!

We did the same thing when we moved from NC to Florida. We rented a mini-van and brought a litter box. Even though they were milldly sedated, they hated the carriers. We let them out occasionally to roam with a leash and they were absolutely entranced by the cars and trucks going by. You...

Thanks for your encouragement. I bought one for every 500-ft area - and one specifically for our bedroom. We made quite the investment---without a return :-(

    cat sedation for bathing?

Do you have capstar where you live? I used to dread bathing mine until the vet suggested a simple pill. Quickly kills all the fleas, could be used daily and can be used with a long-term treatment.

    Cat makes huge deep meow

Not to mention that spay/neuter minimizes other potential health problems as well. How about unchecked breeding and over population as one more concern? Cats don't have the ability to overcome instinctual behaviors--breeding being one of them.

My husband and I have a 19-yo DSH Iris (have had her her since she was weaned) and an 8-yo Maine Coon Lilly. We adopted her from a friend moving out of the country. Both took little time to adjust when Lilly came on board. Its been a couple of years. They aren't fast friends but accept...
